Anyway, if you're wondering why we have Spanish words, we were colonized by Spain for 333 years (we were the longest colony of Spain in history), but our language remains intact, we have around 100+ distinct languages/dialects in our country, that's prolly one of the reasons why the Spaniards only taught 2 provinces in our country a full Spanish language. Only about 17% - 20% of the official Filipino language has some Spanish loan words.

some of charron's lines went over the heads because of a lot of reasons. first, it's not our first language 😅 however pretty sure a lot of filos understood and appreciated it specially when they rewatch the match but still crowd went silent because we can't relate with the contexts he mentioned. did not know what's going on there in amsterdam, etc. on the other hand, big props to charron for keeping up with the news in filipino battle rap scene, he clearly did his research and that's where he got big crowd reactions cause they understood and knew what he meant. second, i noticed that there's a lot of difference in delivery , humor including culture between international battles and our local ones so some lines might not reach filo crowd even if they understood what was said. you also mentioned smugglaz mentioning names and whatnot. i gotta let you know that fliptop knows no boundaries. there was even an issue where emcees sue each other, doing all legalities because of how brutal it can be lol, sensitive topics are always talked about so consider yourself warned if you ever step foot in the scene 😂 and yes we have a lot of spanish words in our language because we were colonized by spain for more than 300 years and we even have a place here where the town's dialect/language is spanish derived. ej power did great during your battle speaking the language because it's not that hard for us😅 you should battle filo emcees who can also do great in english conference. that would be a battle worth to see 😊

4:10 I agree on you with this and I even admit it, there are often still bars that will go over our heads even though we are familiar with some english battle raps now. Though right now i am able to grasp most of it especially after writing the bars down, i even watched your other battles even with those 2 versus 2 battle format, you and Mack Myron, just to make sure I get used to understanding how international battle rap delivers. We got used to understand battle rap in more of insulting and breaking an emcees persona the habit only changed by 2016 when we are trying to embrace bars and technicalities more than insults and jokes this is because a lot of Filipino emcees have emerge with talents moreon being lyrical rather than just being a comedian on stage. While we started embracing bars its more on Tagalog or Taglish(Tagalog mixed with English) rather than a full English itself. As a battle rap fan I love you make this breakdown segments, honest intake on this it really helps us to learn and appreciate pen game’s more. Right now im watching this while at work, that’s how we love battle rap here. p.s there’s a bit lag on the video hopefully would be fix on your succeeding uploads. Smoove!!

Just to add on too, we have a diallect in Philippines too that is heavilyy influenced by Spanish. We call it “Chavakano”, they are almost identical.

I'd like to add that it's not that we don't understand "bars," it's that we don't catch the reference. And that's fine, it's not our fault. It's like Smoove won't understand how Filipino-baiting angle of Smugglaz is not just a good angle, but it's indeed a great angle. (Cos we have a self-inflicting joke going around that Filipinos crave validation from foreigners, and the latter take advantage of it) It's the same concept. We just don't catch the reference or how good the reference is, but we do get how "bars" work. Also, for non-Filipinos, we learn English from kindergarten up to college. In fact, our [fucked up] education system is in English. So we have a good grasp of the language, and we just have our own dialect of English. It's like how UK has UK-English, US has US-English, Australia has Australian English, and ours is Filipino-English.

Yeah Philippines has a lot of loan words from Spanish about 3000 words Old people in some places can speak Spanish and there's a certain part in the PH Called Zamboanga (chavacanos) can speak Spanish fluently As far as I know Spanish subject in Philippines have been removed late 70's in our curriculum, so people now speaks mixed Tagalog and Spanish, We've been colonized by Spain 333 years.
