"Something's lost, but something's gained, in living everyday." I think this might be the most beautifully profound lyric ever written. And even more so delivered in her 80s after everything she's been through. What an incredible artist.

When I was a kid the song was wildly popular. My mom and I sang it together each time it was on the radio. Last week, at age 63, I visited my 84 yr old Mom for the last time. She was dying from cancer that had only been diagnosed four months prior. We never expected to lose her so quickly but I had to get home quickly. The entire flight I was worried sick about what to say to her. What would be right? How to say goodbye? She was heavily medicated when I arrived. She never spoke and never opened her eyes. I knew what felt right. It came to me so clearly. I kneeled by her bed, cradled her head and sang “Both Sides Now” while forcing back tears. She was gone 2 days later. I never saw her conscious again. I’ll never know if she heard me. The song was always special to me, always our song. I’ll never hear it without crying again. RIP Mom. Thank you, Ms Mitchell

An incredible orb came directly out of his picture and passed in front of her couch then disappeared into the ceiling. We showed the video to friends and family and they noticed a ghost sitting on the couch. My dead mom❤❤❤❤ we didn't see it but others found it, thier here my friend😊

This is, without hyperbole, probably one of the best songs ever written in the 20th century. You can tell because there have been so many different singers, interpretations, and arrangements made of it, each highlighting a different facet of the melody and lyrics. It truly feels like a diamond that you can turn and appreciate how it bends light differently at each angle. As for this specific version, with Joni herself singing lyrics she wrote almost six decades ago, it embodies the spirit of the song in a way I didn't even think possible. Pure magic.

Dear Grammys social media manager(s), please never take this video down. I’ve been waiting since the day it aired for this to be posted here. This was an incredibly moving performance and possibly the best version of this song ever. The lyrics are such that they take on greater meaning as one gets older and experiences more in life - the evolution of Joni’s renditions reflect that. Original > 2000 reimagining > 2022 folk festival > 2024 Grammys. Each version has been better than the prior one and I don’t think I’m alone in that opinion

It seems like the message of the song actually works better as a slowed-down piano ballad (the way it was performed here and at the Newport Folk Festival) as opposed to the upbeat folksy guitar track it was originally. But at the same time both versions worked at the time they were performed. The upbeat original version reflects the ambition and optimism of youth (when she released it in her early 20s), and the current version reflects the wisdom of age (from the point of view of an 80-year old woman). Truly looking at it from both sides now.

In a 1980s high-school English class, our teacher played a version of this song, sung by an old woman. Joni Mitchell lived in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan (Cree First Nation's words for the Service Berry and Swiftly Flowing) 2 hours from our school. Our class of teens laughed at hearing an unknown senior woman sing this song at a much slower pace than the original. Our teacher tried to impress upon us that hopefully we will get old and look at our life's journey, and our perspective will change. And years later, Joni Mitchell is possibly performing her song in public for the last time. She's wrote and recorded many others. She'll be known for this classic for years to come. We need to look at our lives all the way through, and we'll marvel at our changing perspectives as we get older. God Bless.

The part that makes me the most emotional is when Joni receives her standing ovation before the song ends and the camera pans to nearly every woman artist/celebrity on the floor. They have all been impacted by Joni's music at some point in their lives, (both creatively and personally), and her performance brought those waves of emotions back, but in a way that felt reborn. Everyone was on the verge of tears and all they could do was show Joni reverence and gratitude.

Joni, ever the interpreter of song. She took the changes life has given her, arranged it beautifully to a song about adjusting to the passage of time, and nailed it. Glorious. When I heard this was a collaboration, I feared the high-powered women sharing the stage with her -- Brandi, Lucius, Allison Russell -- would overpower or overshadow her. But they did not. Thankfully, they kept their contributions in the background, as perfect accompaniment. So lovely, all of it.

We're all crying. It's okay. It's what's supposed to happen when you see and hear something this beautiful and profound.

Pull up her version of it when she was young, and then listen to this one again. You'll find a depth uninmaginable in how life's experiences can transform a song's meaning or impact.

The camera work at 3:58 pulling in and out of focus showing both Dua Lipa and Beyonce's reactions is truly masterful. Gorgeous performance. Insane we had both Mitchell and Tracy Chapman perform on the same night at the same ceremony.

If you haven’t got tears rolling down your cheeks at the end of that you have a waxy pea sized heart. The fragility of the voice and the words sung by a voice of experience. Just beautiful xx

Every time I listen to this song it hits different, but also the same. To me it is the song that describes life most accurately. The list of things I wish I’d done get bigger by the year, and I’m ok with that, because that’s what living every day involves. A truly special performance.. Thanks Joni x

I wonder if Ms Mitchell has any idea at all the gift she has given us, the emotion it stirs, the memories it revives, the love we express together for this lovely, simple yet very complex piece, how many generations of families have tied it to special times How many occasions of the heart it’s accompanied, and how it’s adored by so many, many different types of people who may, very well, have only this one thing in common. AND it’s not easy to sing. And it never gets old. And Ms Mitchell never gets old. I’ve had an earworm since the Grammies. Dammit!

Absolutely stunning. !!!! Arguably the most beautiful song ever written in our lifetime. JM's control of the text and melody is heart wrenching. The best thing I have seen and been privileged to listen to in living memory. Wow wow wow just wow. ❤❤

A master class in dispelling the myth of beauty diminishing with age. Some things do get better with time. She sang it herself: Something’s lost but something’s gained in living every day.” ❤️

That’s music. That’s a woman. When they had a choice no they all have choices even now. But when they didn’t thrive to make more money then sense but to make a difference in the world. They used their platforms to change the world for the better. THANK YOU JONI 👏👏👏❤️ We all owe Joni Mitchell I do for bringing back my mom who was one of her biggest fans even just for a moment ❤️❤️😔

Pure perfection! The amazing talent of the clarinetist, and strings musicians, the angelic harmonies, and the seasoned voice from an artist who has lived this song. So much more meaningful at this chapter of her life. Bravo, Joanie! ❤
