Very cool review! But the mine that you placed at 2:09:30 (the one you received for your first feudum) is a sulphur mine, so it should generate yellow stuff, not food :)

Thank you. Just got my hand on a copy a few days ago. Watched the half hour tutorial from odd bird games. But it left me pretty clueless on many details and especially a good way to teach the game. Watched through your video and it helped a ton to understand the flow of the game and a rough way to teach it to my group. Thanks again.

Thanks for the detailed play through! Very high praise to your attention to detail, I'd say that even the mistakes helped me because it made me realize rule clarity without reading the rulebook yet. I understood why some things were wrong and how often things can get lost in the mix while doing the admin. Looking forward to the new edition and to get this game to the table, which will definitely be easier now after watching your video!

Thanks for the run-through, Jon, that was quite an undertaking! 2:28:03 You said "7 points... 67 and that takes them to 75", you meant "68". 2:38:40 You said "Red is going to go to 71", you meant "74". Minor points, I know. Thanks for showcasing the game so well!

Great job Jon! I've had this game since the Kickstarter delivered and was just contemplating selling it unplayed because it was just so daunting to learn and teach. I just couldn't wrap my head around the rules. After watching your playthrough it has finally clicked, and I'm actually really excited to play it now, as all of the mechanics look really cool. Maybe a little overkill in places, but unique nonetheless. Keep up the great work!

That's a pretty big commitment for a group of 4 people to watch a nearly 3 hour long video for a game. I think it is enough If one person watches the video. An rules explanation this way shouldn't take more than 30-40 minutes. Even this is enough to digest for most game groups...
@zombiefireman
@zombiefireman Жыл бұрын
@@Brezel85 You're in luck then! I often suggest this video as the best rules teach. Because it is. Why? Because you can view just the "first 30-40 minutes" and have a good enough grasp of the rules to start a game. As always, however, it is always recommended that at least one person has a complete command of the rules. If you have four people playing for the first time then I'd still recommend this video, but watching for at least an hour of it. I have reviewed all of the play-through videos on Feudum and so far I have yet to see a better one than this one.

I'm sorry to disappoint here, but I can use this as an example of a game I would likely never actually get a review for anyway. It's so long and I'd likely not get it to the table enough times within a timeframe where people are interested in it to actually get the review done. I've honestly found myself enjoying playing games more since I decided to stop reviewing them, I am spending less energy picking them apart and now simply having fun with them more.
@patrickrochel9827

While I miss your reviews there are a hundred reviewers out there. You and Ant Lab are the only places where I can go to make an educated decision on a game. I love all the board game sites but you and Ant Lab are my two go to channels. If you do more run throughs because you aren't reviewing it's great by me. Just my 2c....your reviews were great though.

Man, these playthroughs are amazing. I enjoy them much more than reviews and helps us decide for ourselves if we like the game or not. Just a suggestion, when you commit mistakes throughout the game, I don't feel you need to add those banners splashed across the whole video. They are distracting and you may find other mistakes after the videos are posted anyways. I would suggest using the KZfaq subtitles for that. This would spare you a lot of work and would make your videos more clean and enjoyable. Keep up the amazing work!

I can see where you are coming from, but I know that far less than half of viewers are turning the subtitles on which means they wouldn't see the corrections and potentially learn incorrect rules or get confused when I do something that doesn't make sense and isn't annotated.

Hey Jon! Great video! One correction, though. At 1:19:30, active regions are only those where you rule a location or where you have a landscape-tending serf. Only a serf, without a tended landscape doesn't count to active regions (rulebook, p. 21) (it doesn't affect the scoring, in that exact case, though)

Nice playthrough Jon, thanks! 2 things I think are still incorrect though... 1. Using the bonus action to take a fifth card does not have to be done at the start of the round (as far as I can tell). This gives you a lot more strategic options to take a card when needed... 2. When using the Improve action you can trigger the next epoch (this should have happened at 1:07:05 and again at 1:40:13). Question: if you have no food, no epoch tiles, no money, no farms and no pawns (admittedly a bad position, but not impossible), is there anything you can do to get back in the game? Even with a farm it is random whether or not you will get the food necessary to migrate another pawn onto the board :/
@JonGetsGames
@JonGetsGames 5 жыл бұрын
Hey there Jerry, I don't think either of these things were done wrong. The rules specifically state "During card selection, you may play a saltpeter or sulfur good to gain a bonus during this round" so I do believe you must make this decision while selecting cards. When it comes to checking for epoch changing, the rules state this happens as Step 4 of a round where the actions take place in Step1. Regarding your last question, I do think it would be incredibly hard to get back into the game :-\

Would love at least a closing section where you informally talk about how much you liked the game or not. Rahdo tends to do that on his playthroughs. Might not be as concise as your old reviews, but at least it would give you a chance to communicate if you liked a game & if you think a game is worth purchasing or not.
@JonGetsGames
@JonGetsGames 6 жыл бұрын
I can see why you'd want this, but I feel like this is an ethical conflict I can't do because I was paid by the publisher to make the video. I do give my opinion on the games I play in my monthly Impressions vlog, but try to stay as objective as possible in playthroughs.
@briantoohey3044
@briantoohey3044 6 жыл бұрын
Good point. You could, perhaps, do it for playthroughs that aren't paid, and label your playthroughs as paid or not paid on the videos graphics and/or in the headers.. On the other hand, as long as you continuing doing your monthly impressions vlog, and make sure to cover any games you've done playthroughs for during that month, at least you can still cover your impressions of everything you've played that way. I'll make sure to keep looking for the impressions vlogs!
@JonGetsGames
@JonGetsGames 6 жыл бұрын
I've considered being more subjective in non-paid playthroughs but ultimately I think I'd prefer consistency when it comes to these types of coverage. I do talk about all the published games I play with other people in my impressions vlog, but won't generally talk about the game yet if I only played it against myself in a playthrough setting and/or if it is a prototype version of the game.

Are we to assume you like these games you are playing? Like Radho, who doesn’t do runthroughs on anything unless he likes it? Or are you also doing play throughs of games you don’t like? I definitely miss your reviews. You had the best, most helpful and organized reviews and it is a shame you gave them up. Personally, I would not watch this walk-through to get an idea if I like the game or not. I would much rather have a short video highlighting the pros and cons. What is the point of building up trust in the community as far as your opinion goes and then deciding not to give an opinion anymore? Counterproductive.
@JonGetsGames
@JonGetsGames 6 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say that you can assume I like or even recommend every game I make a playthrough for, but as part of my selection process I do make sure that I find at least part of them to be interesting. For instance I don't enjoy "dudes on a map" style games, but I wouldn't say no to making a playthrough about a game with that mechanic based on that alone. I am still giving my opinions out in the monthly impressions vlog, I simply had to cut the review part of out my life because it was slowly killing my enjoyment of board games and I'd have to have them do permanent damage to my enjoyment of my favorite things to do. I never planned to stop making reviews at some point, I simply made them for 4 years and then after a cold hard look at how they affected my life I decided I needed to stop making them. I may change my mind in the future, but for now it has absolutely been beneficial to my mind-state when it comes to making content as well as simply playing games.
