Highly active sunspot AR3664 grew tremendously from May 6-9, 2024. See a time-lapse of the region here.
As of May 9, it was about 15-Earths wide.

The flare at the "bottom" of the sun as seen with the naked eye during the eclipse was a once in a lifetime event. I'll never forget it.

I saw that. I had binoculars with me and seeing that ruby red prominence was incredible.
@pandzban4533
@pandzban4533 Ай бұрын
Solar Flare is short emission of Gamma Rays, mostly with Coronal Mass Ejection. The red prominence is Chromosphere. It emits Hydrogen alpha transition mostly and Calcium II. Completely different from the rest of the sun light emission which is continuous white spectrum of light. You witnessed something that is only visible during totality with a naked eye. The true color of ionized hydrogen in gaseous form. The rest is clear white, including corona. Very close to emission of typical Black Body at app. 5772 Kelvin. Hydrogen in ionized gaseous form doesn't emit continuous light. Only solids or liquids can. Think about it.

I watched it almost every morning for a week with a white light filter; it's still huge today May 12, and not too close to the edge of the Sun, you can see it for a couple more days. It's very impressive for the size and the intricacy of the shapes and shades.

@@smileygladhandsNo it’s not billions. It’s about 3k years. Do your research, the sun my lifetime has gone from being a strong orange, to yellow to now white. Stars turn white before they die. Through research they are able to predict the earths life by monitoring the sun spots. In other words, sun spots are an indicator as to a stars health. Look up William cooper who wrote behold a pale horse. He came across documents that showed our sun has 3 thousand years left. When Edgar Mitchel gave a talk before he died he said the sun had 3 thousand years to live, he then coughed and said oops I meant to say 3 billion years. It’s why Elon wants to get off earth before the star dies. Our earth is heating up because our star is dying.
