dear Aditya Kurapaty if you have known the entire story, you would not say that. firstly, taylor have wanted to own her music for a long time already, and has offered to even buy them just so she can have the ownership. Big Machine Records (Scott Borchetta) refused to let her own her music tho. Instead, he offered her a deal that consists of her making more new albums in exchange to ownership to an old album. this means that when she makes a new album, its ownership goes to Scott but Taylor will get ownership of one old album, which is unfair. Later on, without Taylor's knowledge, Big Machine Records (Scott Borchetta) decided to sell the ownership to SCOOTER BRAUN instead. Now I ask you this: how could Scott sell the ownership to Scooter and refuse to sell it to the woman who made the music? Taylor was not even given a chance to bid against Scooter. it was clear that they simply did not want to give the ownership to Taylor Swift. Scooter decided to sell it again to another company, (to which he will still benefit from) and the company decided to contact Taylor with good intentions AFTER it was sold to them (because Scooter did not want to let Taylor know that her music was being sold again unless the business transaction is already done) and wanted her to have rights to her music but Taylor refused because she did not want any connection to Scooter. Plus, when they communicated and tried to negotiate, Scooter offered a deal where she had to sign a contract wherein she would be silenced from addressing matters about Scooter publicly unless it is positive. If she had signed this, ONLY THEN will the NEGITIATION of whether she WILL OR WILL NOT have rights on her music. This means there is no guarantee that she will even be given a chance to have her rights after signing a contract that would silence her forever. So, to answer your question, yes. what he did may be legal, but manipulative and dirty and obviously unfair nonetheless. it was clear that these men just did not want Taylor to own her music which SHE MADE since she was 16 years old.

Likely most if us wouldnt have ever heard of our favourite artists if the record labels didnt invest money into getting them on the radio and such. So they sell the artists work in order to make back the money they invest and to keep the record label afloat. Its pretty fucked up since art is so valuable and all but thats just the business of show business.

I don't even consider it a mistake. She probably gave them away for something in return. There were people who put her where she is and gave her access all the millions she has made. This is how the business works. And this is what she wanted. They own the artist, not vice versa. If she wanted to own her masters she would have to go in with guns and collect them from the studio herself, gangster style. If it was her publishing, then she gave it away for something in return early on. Sadly they didn't really owe her the option and if they did she can sue them. But they most likely didn't. If she wanted to own her publishing and do it all without selling her publishing then she could have recorded in her bedroom and put her songs up on Bandcamp and made all here videos low budget etc, then likely none of us would have ever heard of her. And she would own all her own songs.

No. There are two things you can make money from. Writing a song, and owning the *recording* of the song. Most labels own the recording of your music and because you are just an aspiring artist, you sign a 5 album contract, otherwise they dumb you for someone who will.

That just means the record shall forever add into their contracts not being able to re-record the songs for 30 years time. What Miss Swift did was insanely stupid and damaging. By inciting conflicts against record companies, she just makes it much harder for future artists. Nothing has changed in the process of singing records except they added that no re-recording clause.

And if Taylor had done NOTHING, that no re-cording clause would NOT have been added in the singing records contracts. Taylor is not inciting conflicts. So, she is re-recording her first 6 records, and she will own the masters of the new recordings of her original albums. This allows her to make an enormous amount of money on her original work, if she is successful at this. So far, she's very successful.
