A lot of non-political people use it for their business, and many other professions use it to keep in touch with peers. They would miss it a lot, but a new platform could step in and take the place of Twitter relatively rapidly.

I manage to lead a busy work and social life without Twitter. Why does anybody need it? I just got an emergency text from my employer that a member has COVID and they have purchased a bunch of test kits so we can check our condition when we get to work or have it done at a pharmacy ourselves. A text message! On my phone! A cheap android phone that carries with it a cheap annual payment contract that is now $135 a year for more texts than I ever used. Why does the majority of the population insist that they need to be one of the sheep heading for the cliff.

Yes he can. But what he cannot do is 1. Proclaim he is a free speech champion and only illegal tweets will be actioned 2. Delete tweets and accounts he doesn't like 3. Not be a hypocrite I can, hand on heart, say that 2 years ago I still thought very highly of Musk. Despite his run-ins with the SEC and his unfortunate tendency to throw vile slurs at people on twitter. Now, having seen him welcome Nazi's back onto Twitter and ban journalists who criticised him among so many other questionable actions, I can also say that the respect has gone.

@@ericw1355 Yup. There is absolutely nothing preventing him booting off anyone he chooses, at any time, for no reason other than he felt like it. Nothing to stop him welcoming back the QAnon and Nazi and other accounts he has. And, as you say, there is nothing stopping advertisers deciding to take their "corporate free speech" elsewhere. There is also nothing stopping the EU deciding that his targeting of journalists constitutes a reason to impose sanctions on Twitter, Musk, or both. The EU is, at present, considering what moves to make on the subject.

tic toc isn't a company as you would consider one to be in a democracy. tic tok has governmental "officials" in it... that have the right to access, store and manipulate any thing on the site... once you make a copy of something then it isn't yours any longer right... that copy is theirs and that is how they get around a statement such as that no information is stored in china of americans... because that data is copied and they consider it thiers. so yes the ccp is collecting data for use, not to sell you things but to figure out how to manipulate you to be friendly to the ccp. which should still be considered an enemy of our nation... since their entire goal is first to replace us then to conquer us... the ccp does NOT want any threats to it's control and the usa, nato... and every free nation on the planet is such... belt and road managed to get quite a few nations to be slaved to the ccp for territory or money.. but not enough for them to control the world... this isn't a plan they want to execute now... this is a plan they are working forward to, to instigate in the future when they can call themselves and equal if not a superior to the usa... some time around 2045-2055... this is also a reason why many are not in a panic... but i agree we need to remove their "developing nation" status and start bringing companies home to make sure we have the ability of domestic production ware as the wealthy and corporations don't consider themselves to be of any one nation... since they can simply pack up and move anywhere and buy their way in... have eroded the usa's ability to have home production... that and the conglomeration efforts to bring all companies under the banner of 7 or 8 primary corporations. feel free to look it up, most of what we buy is a brand, but that brand is owned by a company who has owners who own it and many other companies, which then have more brands... all of them are under a very small number of controling ownership elements/people. anyhow i could rant and such but feel free to look it all up.. peace.

I’m no one special when it comes to being on Twitter, but I just deactivated my account, because I refuse to support a narcissistic billionaire,. Believe me, I was making a lot of excuses as to why I should stay on, but when it comes down to it, I lived just fine without Twitter before and I will again. If big names, such as MSNBC (and many others who can make a difference), would do a mass departure from Twitter maybe then and only then will it crucially effect the owner of the now pathetic platform. All MSNBC and others are doing is supplying the narcissist the fuel he needs to survive and continue abusing his power. It’s time to exit and stop Musk in his tracks.
