It's not a mixed results,it is useless as a supposed all wheel drive,when you can't get the back wheels to spin what so ever how is that AWD

Same results as the RAV4 hybrid and the Prius. Toyota needs to reevaluate their rear electric motor. It just doesn’t seem able to transfer power to the wheel with traction.

I like Honda’s AWD approach to my Ridgeline, it starts off in simulated 4x4 and turns off the rear once you hit 18MPH so you always have traction.

It's a shame that the Lexus AWD system performed so poorly

I got a chance to test it in the snow and ice two days ago. It did a pretty good job from stop light to stop light and I didn't feel any wheel spin (like a front wheel drive). All the other FWD vehicles had a hard time taking off the light but the lexus did really well. Even did really well at a light in an uphill. No wheel spin, just picked up and went. Was this a defective vehicle they tested?

I just watched the same slip test on Car Caine. The UX 250 did perfectly fine on all tests but one, so I’m not sure what’s happening here in your test. You might want to look at their video.

I wonder if the programming is different for USDM models? That or the "foot to the floor" methodology is what the Toyota/Lexus TCS disagrees with. I had a similar experience in a 2016 2WD Tacoma that was stuck on a snowbank. Mash your foot to the floor and it would pull the throttle lower and lower to where it was basically idling, "feather it" and it eventually jumped off.

I really want to see the slip test be performed on the new Subaru AWD systems with the different Terrain options selects to see how each mode distributes power (Being I have a 17 Forester XT with x-mode, and no terrain options). Same with other company AWD systems that claim the modes change the behavior. Also amazed how poorly the Lexus performed. I would just consider that FWD if the rear wheels can't push it off the rollers.

You need to get reps from Toyota in a video call to explain this crap. First it was the AWD-e Prius, now this? I think the rear motor has plenty of power to push the car off the rollers, it just isn't being told to put power down, instead it is being told to do nothing while the front wheels spin all day long.

Lexus and Toyota hybrid SUV's have so much potential but yet they suck so hard. Either the electric motors are too weak or the software is bad. But I think it's both. Kind of sad. I even considered rx400h some years go but the awd system is just bad. Yet the electric motors could easily give you locking rear and center diff on press of a button. It just software.

The 3 wheel slip test result with the 1 front wheel is actually really impressive! The noise coming from that electric motor is very annoying tho...

Thank you for improving your rollers by adding more space between rollers. And yes, the AWD system on Lexus vehicles was always bad, except the large SUVs where you can manually control locking differentials.

I'm curious what other manufacturers philosophy is on this. I see VW systems generally behave more agressively in these tests. Will they give the pilot a "get out of jail" switch and tell the insurer?

Could you guys do the slip test with the tough T? Showing what it does with the normal gearing then low rage then with the lockers on one by one.

Paying all that money just to get stuck in the snow/mud...not on my list that's for sure.

Yea Toyota need to put a little more efforts in to that E-awd system for their rear wheel drive electric motor, the RAV4-HV and RAV4-PHV will do much better as I also seer these two model of the RAV4 climb a rocky off-road hill.

Move over Ford...Lexus now has TFL on their "list" as well...but seriously great job Tommy! The 2020 Lexus UX 250h seems to have a bit of a "fake" AWD. It should have had no problem with that simple test...at all.

When will Lexus finally realize that this setup sucks? I had a 400H and although it was “AWD” it was essentially a front wheel drive vehicle. I had it outfitted with dedicated winter tires and ended up selling it because it was useless in winter. That was over 10yrs ago, how have they not figured this out yet? I’d buy another one if they ever figure out to make the rear drive actually useful.

I’m guessing it’s the same awd system as the new Prius. Only 15hp going to the rear is garbage.

It’s not just Lexus it’s all Toyota hybrid systems useless as AWD there rear electric motors need more HP, big disappointment. Also why on some vehicles does the awd system turn off above a certain mph does snow and ice not exist above 25 MPH.

What we have learned is: This particular vehicle is FWD. Useless rear components claiming it is AWD. In short, don't let them make you pay for an AWD vehicle when clearly it is only FWD. I like Lexus, but clearly this thing is crap. Thanks Tommy. Def. want you to do this test on any and all AWD vehicles you get your hands on. We need to know the truth.

I love Toyota and Lexus, having said that, this is the most useless AWD system made. My wifes RAV 4 is WAY WAY better and never mind my Tacoma and now Tundra with 4WD. Toyota should be embarrased.

Most Lexus 250h owners are dumb-founded that their UX is AWD. They think it's jsut an Hybrid. Lexus doesn't market it as an AWD solution.

If the reaction time from front wheel slippage to rear wheel traction is so substantial then whats the point. Manufacturers are slapping AWD drive on anything theses days and hoping people will buy their products. shameful.

In addition to all the comments about how useless the AWD is in the Lexus, the diagonal 2 wheel test shows how bad the tire compound is. The spinning front tire on pavement shows what a hard (economy?) compound tread is fitted. Even though the pavement was damp, still poor!!!

It’s a shame Lexus sells this as an AWD. NOPE.
