as an english person, I don't think these guys get anywhere near enough credit for just how perfect their english accents are in the film It's easy not to notice because the whole film is so great. I'm used to all american actors doing bad english accents, and there's are just perfect

True. usually American's are dreadful at accents. They let it slip every now and again by saying things like "Erbal" instead of "Herbal" tea and a few other small americanisms but for the most part they are really making a great fist of it.

I'm a Brit and I genuinely thought they were English when I first saw the movie. I was taken aback when I discovered they were American a few years later. The accents are so authentic and they don't go for the predictably cheesy 'posh' sounding English accent, but more of a working class London area accent.

@@chukrock - Oh man! And what just caps the whole thing is Rob Reiner's character taking this whole thing so seriously. He's got that super sincere face going the whole time these idiots are doing their thing. I almost died everytime the camera would pan to Rob and that face nodding appreciation for the "great art" he was experiencing! It captures the self indulgence of that era and genre perfectly. My first attempt at starting a band out of high school had a couple of Nigels in it....complete with spandex and make-up.......even though we were practicing in an old barn with a dirt floor! Same here. One band I was in, we played this dive bar in Detroit in the 80s and the back edge of the stage was unstable. At one point, I hear the drums go bonkers off time and turn and look to see our drummer fall backwards and both his feet go up. His drum stool had fallen off the edge while he was playing. He quickly jumped up and tried to keep playing while someone retrieved his seat. It was hilarious and embarrassing simultaneously. It was a true Spinal Tap moment in real life. I swear I am not making this up. Unfortunately, that drummer whom was a good friend of mine, passed away last October. I will always remember.

Jack Reilly he’s just droll, no deal. He just doesn’t like being “on” all the time. He comes from good aristocratic British stock and they view showbiz and acting as merely a paycheck, a job; not a lifestyle, as in the USA. American celebrities always need to be performing and “on” even when they’re not. He’s keeping it real he does not want to be performing when he’s not on the clock.

The concept is so great too: Take a bunch of people who are great at improvisation and have them create an actual history for their character, learn it extremely well and then improvise around them with that knowledge being used as their memory. Brilliant! They kept from laughing so well (kudos to them for that), but I can only imagine how many takes were ruined that we'll probably never see.

Can be compared with Geezer Butler from Black Sabbath - who in ‘83 used Stonehenge as a stagesetting - who ordered it in real size which made it impossible to use in most music theatres due to size. One of the most blisteringly funny movies of all time. I actually had my own "Spinal Tap moment": I was in Buffalo, NY for a wedding and was staying in the same hotel as Def Leppard. The person whose wedding I was attending had rented a limousine for his out-of-town guests. We were going to the mall to get wedding gifts and we all collected at the limo (noticing these rather rock 'n roll guys with English accents hanging about the lobby). There was a funny brief moment where we had the sublime pleasure of rousting the Def Leppard guys out of "our" limo. Priceless!
