Indeed, i live by the border to Mexico and can easily come and go. There is a huge store in Mexico justa few steps from the border crossing that maily sells to rich people and Anglos. All their merch is 100% Mexican hand made. They sell beautiful pottery like this in the clip and extremely expensive and price tags are in dollars. While this family may be selling their items for some pesos, those taking advantage of them sell their products for many times their price

Isn't this the essence of capitalism? Buy cheaply from the producers and sell with a bigger profit margin than the producer was paid. Mexico has been amongst the most active countries in registering its cultural traditions with UNESCO as Patrimony of Humanity. It goes some way towards protecting these traditions, giving producers access to markets, helping to ensure these traditions are taught, etc. Not perfect and it won't stop the cheap Chinese copies that threaten traditional pottery everywhere, but it is a step. And these KZfaq videos are a big help in making us all more aware. Thank you.

No, they mean pinecones. Pineapples are not the inspiration for these pieces. The pinecones inspire these artisans as they live near a forrest filled with pine trees. Over the years there's been a mixture and a play on words because as you point out in spanish both pineapple and pinecones are the same. But they don't draw inspiration from pineapples. Maybe the colors can throw you off or the shape. But if you look closely the main shapes are of pinecones not of pineapples.

@@carloleeokeef6801 si, claro, pero my punto es que esas personas les pagan una mediocridad a estos artesanos maravillosos, sabiendo que merecen muchisimo mas de lo que les pagan. I am lucky to own 5 pieces, 3 of them being in the garden in front of my house in the Basque country , where they have been weathered by the elements which has made them even more beautiful . Some have cactus inside, because of their origin , some flowers , and some fruits (no disrespect) because i don't like to treat art as something to be merely contemplated but also as something to be used so it acquires even more beauty and sentimental value over the years . But i don't consider these any less than exquisite works of art .
