I bought it, can't say I regret it since I built a pc specifically for VR flying. I couldn't pass it up. Edit: Stol drags would have been nice.

@@MM-rf8ml Do you know what that means? It might work for you after the update. 😎 Yeah, but some people would complain if they were there all the time. Maybe have the option to toggle on/off, just like several airport DLCs have the option to toggle static aircraft on/off.

I bought the full collection. No regrets. My only disappointment is that you can only access the Airshow Style scenery while qualifying or racing. I would have loved to be able to "Fly-In" to Reno in a Cessna or on a domestic flight, participate in the races, then explore the Airshow in the drone camera and the fly home afterwards. I think they have missed a bit of a trick in not allowing people to do this as it would have really added something to free flight in the Reno Area. (Or at least there be an option if you've bought the packs to have "Airshow Scenery Enabled/Disabled")

i find this really fun myself. i was aware of what the reno air races were though, and knew what to expect, because this is an airplane simulator first. but i play the game with a joystick in cockpit view mode. it’s not as fun for me with the outside view or with a controller.

I just bought the full collection during the spring sale, very happy considering it was reduced from £124 to £33 so will definitely squeeze the juice out of that if I can. It would be amazing if Asobo, now having the platform to do, would develop the Red Bull air races series with the Extra 300s and so on

No talks of that happening. Red Bull series is non-existent. There is some freeware with cones, but no modes or anything like that. Reno Air Races is just that....3 rings on the same landscape with 4 planes. The equivalent to buying a Daytona 500 game, where all you have is 1 race track and 3 cars, one for each series (Cup, Xfinity and Trucks). Orbx has something that you can make courses with, but it's quite basic.

im a bush plane pilot so looking forward to when they add the STOL racing to the reno races, its one on one racing - would have like to see the sport class added but i imagine it will be added later - i have been a big fan of reno racing for many years and love having it in the sim - not a waste of money for me at all

Thanks for the post! I see what you mean about getting the base expansion pack version. I’m disappointed in that there’s not more racers! I’ve only got to race twice with 2 other people. I do competitive online car racing and there’s alway a lot people racing cars.

Its a sim. Therfore prop pitch, mixture, engine parameters, fuel load and cg should all be factors. As well as starting form the runway

Great review. I got the whole package, with some regrets, extra planes I will not likely fly, my "hangar" is full of planes and they are not in a Livery bundle (preferred), and the lack of competition for racing, after several attempts to compete, most races were 2-3 planes in a race. In this case, I would also recommend the starter bundle then pick the class you love (unlimited for me) because I love flying the P51s outside of the race mode. Or, skip the Reno package and just get the planes you want. The biggest drawback for Reno and MSFS are the bugs introduced with each release. With a year plus of buggy updates, there is no telling how long it will take to get a stable release. I hate to feed the their success by making another purchase. I think that if they have fewer purchases and bad reviews that explains why nobody is purchasing it, then maybe they will produce a better product. Numbers ($$$$) make a huge difference with any product.

Yeah...they should come out with another product line..."Microsoft Flight" for all the half-assed/arcadish stuff. Over the past year, they've made some progress, but I think they're still spreading themselves out way too thin! #PutSimulationBackIntoMSFS

I got the full meal deal of 40 planes, and I'm happy when you consider you'll pay the same or more for a single plane such as the DC6, CRJ, or one of the payware airliners. I think the PMDG 737 will be over $100.

A after race replay is missing.Whe need spectacular fly by TV style replay cams.Esspecialy on console xbox series x.Even in free flights mode whe don't have instant replay cams.Developers get to work.

If it included other unlimited aircraft like Bearcats or Sea Furies maybe but, no. There is nothing here above the single plane per class option that is of interest to me and then it's not something I will be rushing to get if get at all.

Racing it's self is meh but hey, it's something different. I bought the full collection as I knew I wanted to fly a Garmin or glass cockpit L-39 in the world sim and wasn't sure which version I'd prefer, I've enjoyed the glass cockpit Red Thunder with it's autopilot, etc. but it still feels like a big step down from DCS. Overall I'd say the $60 "collection" feels overpriced like the "premium deluxe" version of the base sim but is worth getting if you're heavily in flight sims and/or want the base Reno Expansion and one or more of the race class packs to fly in the "world". There's definitely a need for someone to review the individual Class Packs and compare the aircraft/cockpits when flown in the World.

i bought the base game, tried each of the 4 aircraft and decided i liked racing the mustang, checked all the planes for sale and found one i liked the panel, miss america and bought it - been a blast racing, teaches some great precision flying skills, i prefer flying in cockpit view, more realistic and quite a bit more thrilling watching the ground go by at 340mph from the cockpit - i aklso bought th l39 red lightning jet to just fly in the sim, has a nice glass panel, autopilot and great visibilty, fast and agile for fun high altitude flying

Air racing in VR in the cockpit is absolutely incredible. I wish they'd move the stupid hud though it blocks the center....

Well still no STOL races.. However, anyone reading this right now. The full Reno Air Race pack is like 60% off right now, including the base package DLC. Im still just going to get the base package. Flying in third person looks real arcadish. Did you try it in the cockpit ? what form of control where you using ? I bought the whole shebang and like it. It is to bad that the course is not set up when flying out of Stead. It would be fun to be able to fly the corsair, P38 or the P40 thru the time trials at least.

I bought the full pack, expecting airraces on multiple locations. I did some races in the biplane and it's just one circle.. extremely easy to control the plane so me and the other guys almost did the exact same laptimes, ending with a 0.001 difference. Since we were nonstop flying at full speed there was also not any overtaking, we were just flying in circles. Not any excitement or ways to overtake others. I still feeling I'm missing out here.. please tell me I didn't spend 60,- just to fly around in circles :-/

@@ShadowGhostHD Yeah I don't mind having those planes, but they are kind of simple, not everything is functional in the cockpit.. for this money I'd rather have bought some more functional planes. I'm just so surprised that this Reno addon is so extremely basic :-/ I think multiplayer will die quickly since the races themself are very boring.

@@MrEDET Yeah, not enough variety and lobbies are quite empty. It’s 2021! They should have had private matchmaking from the get-go so people could create their own leagues……buuuuuuut no! They’re NOW only looking at private matchmaking because someone asked in the Dev Q&A in Oct! Just image COD or some other FPS and tell players that they can only play with their friends in the rarest occasion that the AI matches them together. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

I'm glad i watched this video. I've never watched real reno air races, so i wasn't sure what it will be like. Personally i also hoped for a much larger variety in the races and not just flying i circles. I'll definitely skip this and hope that this will at some point turn into a sandbox for 3rd party races through cities, canyons or other more exciting stuff.

Yes, this should open things up for 3rd party devs to create races, but I don’t think you’ll see leaderboards. They still don’t have that for 3rd party landing challenges due to privacy issues.

I disagree regarding the full package, at 1,50$ for each plane I think it's excellent value for the money if you like these kind of planes! I'm not expecting the same amount of features in planes that cost so little compared to a plane for 30-60 dollars. Enjoying the Reno races greatly myself, but I understand it's not everyone's cup of tea.

I'm enjoying this content (bar the lap counter blocking my view in VR - hopefully a fix will come out for that) but it's very over priced for how arcade like it is. There needs to be a lot of nuance added to the flying experience to give you more control over your lap times as at the minute it's just throttle full and fly in circles with little you can do to to really tweak your lap time or catch people.

@@dunxy This has been my solution too. It's not convenient to move it at the start of a race and as it doesn't remember where you moved it so you have to do it every time - and that's if moving it even works, which remains very hit and miss. It's a shame as I kind of like having my lap times visible, though not so fussed about the map. Really don't know why it was ever a floating hud element though when it could have been done sympathetically/without ruining the immersion by sticking it on a tablet in the cockpit like many of the planes use for checklists and the like. This has been one of those releases where I wonder if the developers even tried their own game.

I can't believe that they've implemented such a Money Cutting Arcade Element into the Flight Simulator! I hate how the Market Place is now flooded with endless and expensive color variants of the same! I hate how they pretend you can save lots of Money by "only" paying 59,99 EUR instead of a theoretical bunch of 419,99 EUR!

I was tempted by the base pack, but after seeing this video I think I'll spend my money (or not!) on something else, especially when my fav plane of the 4 is the Pitts which is in the game anyway. And what is this with Americans and left turn only racing?! ;-)

I purchased this last year the day it came out and bought the full package with all 40 aircraft. Well I had fun for about A-day so I understand exactly what you're saying about how not to buy all of these planes!!! Agreed!!!! I can't remember because it's been so long since I've even fired it up, but do you get this this airport to play on anytime you want with other aircraft or can it not be accessed?

Yes, you have the Reno Air Races setup when you fly outside the mode. People that don't have it won't see it. Yeah, I haven't looked at Reno Air Races since a month after it was released, just to see if there were any changes. There have been, but not much for me to go back to it. I'd rather iRacing for racing.

On Xbox multiplayer is confined by the need for a 'game pass'. Without AI planes, the offering is very weak. The standardised planes with limited features currently make this not too attractive for me.

I purchased the base expansion and I only did time trials and free flights. Unfortunately the number of CTDs is so high that I was never able to finish a run for the unlimited category, nor for jets. Are you all able to complete a time trial for these 2 categories?

I have a question. After 7 months I'm going back and playing this but how do you get the Reno steed airport to just to just use with any with annual plane to take off and land in? Now I know you can just type in the Reno steed airport, but its empty! No people or planes. I have this package and it's the full $60 package and I'm just wondering how I can use that airport for other aircraft?

I normally don't put an end point when bush flying. You should be able to see it or choose it as the starting point. I haven't been in MSFS since end of Feb, when I lost my soul to taxes! Now that tax season has been over since the end of April, I've gone back to racing on iRacing and haven't put much content on here, however, I have a few races that I'll be posting in the next week or so, like the rollercoaster ride that I was on tonight: going from 3rd to 1st by start/finish, then dropping to 9th and then....you'll have to watch the video to see how it ends! 🤣🏎🏁

if the p51 or t-6 were anything close to “study level” i would have thrown my money at it. it’s just more default aircraft though. i’m most definitely not interested in anything like that.

The T-6 and Mustang are very arcade type and not even close to the real things! If you’re looking for a real flying experience, take a pass but if you’re happy with a simple arcade game then you might be happy

Yep - I think this whole Reno Races was to get some arcade gameplay that could be used with an Xbox controller. F/A-18 in the SU7/GOTY isn't impressive either.

Arcade, that's exactly my thought after flying these planes. They are way too easy to control. Never flown them in real life obviously, but the biplanes are so easy to control that it makes the racing very boring.

They’re not liveries. They’re uniquely modified aircraft however it makes no difference when racing, just in time trials.

What keeps me from buying this.... same location? really? i dunno i don't own it! same circuit? just same place around and around.. if it had different geographical locations different circuits, courses whatever then it may be more interesting... but around and around we go at Reno...that's it?....

I purchased the Reno Expansion Pack and my Microsoft store account indicates that the download is completed, but the install failed and locked up the marketplace. On the phone with support for hours today and no resolution. Support re-installed the complete MSFS 2020 game and hours later.... no luck. Had to replace the contents of the community folder and that all works okay. Microsoft says no refund for content bought from the marketplace. I would have been disappointed with the arcade character of this content anyway.

Update: I tried support directly from Asobo and after eight days, screen shots and proof of purchase the content was available to re-download. I don't care for the racing, but the Texan and Mustang are worth the price.

It looks fun but this sim is so poorly optimized that I don't know if it's worth it for me... I really wish this ran smoother.

Frames drop when you enter the expansion, but didn’t noticed any drops in races.

Poorly optimized? FSX/P3D code was poorly optimized. I get 45-65 smooth, stutter-free FPS depending on my location. (ICYW:11700k, 2080 super, 32G Ram, high to ultra settings). Flight sims are not first person shooters, so you are not going to get 200+ FPS.

@@widerfov Your argument is fair. I guess it's just because a smooth 60fps on ultra doesnt hold for me with 5600x, RTX 3070, and 16gb 3600mhz RAM.

@@widerfov I get 30-45 on high/ultra, but I’ve got 4 monitors and a bunch of stuff running at the same time as streaming or recording. Like you said, we’re not expecting an FPS frame rate. On iRacing, I’ll get 120-200, but you need that to see your apexes much clearer and because you’re moving so fast. 😎

@@variatonesoundscape5592 I haven't used AMD with MSFS so I can't say if it stutters or not. Your system sounds more than capable to achieve smooth frames.
