The thing people dont understand is china sells to two markets, those who want cheap items (us markets) and those who want expensive. Think, they produce iphones, they have their own international space station. Uncle sam said we want this but make it cheaper, so they use cheap parts. For other countries they get premium stuff because they pay (standard prices)

NO U.S. manufacturing companies moved their equipment and trained slave labor to produce good quality items that they export to the U.S. i.e. Iphone, Dewalt, China then copies and makes crap and exports to anyone and everyone. Like their fake military jets and ships, copies and fakes. They have no inventive ingenuity. I have tools from my Father I still use made in U.S.A, hand tools. Anyone can buy the crap items or the good quality items. They make both. Slave labor is the heart of the matter. The machinery they use in the high quality plants are made elsewhere no doubt or at least the engineering design of it.

you can buy poorly made products from anywhere. to presume that an australian businessman cant go to a foreign country, design, oversee and create a high quality product is naive. I havent seen your boats in person but whats the issue? any buyer can inspect them and instantly decide for themselves if they are getting value for money. quality is obvious as is poor quality. no one is getting there arm twisted. what i do appreciate is that taking the initiative and investment you have, means, aussies can buy a locally supported boat for a much better price without the dangers inherent in buying direct from china, which do include all the things that others are commenting on. good luck to you. we need more businesses like this.

Awesome way to encourage Australian manufacturing. The reality behind all your salesman talk is because you can make them cheep. As good as the process may be I can assume that there oh&s and fair work conditions may be lacking. I know our day to day items come from china but as a good Aussie I would say for a luxury item like a boat let’s back our local industry and be proud of a good Aussie boat builder.

Respect your opinion mate. I don’t consider myself a salesman - I just give my honest opinion Plus I don’t think that my father and son operation,customising 8-10 boat builds a year is going to effect Australian manufacturing

Thanks for the reply and absolutely respect your honesty and admire your hard work you obviously put into your business. Thinking out loud do you think that if you business was to grow in excess of 8-10 boats per year that there would be a viable option to use onshore manufacturing or is Australia becoming to expensive to compete?
@user-hw5ow9zr7q
@user-hw5ow9zr7q 5 ай бұрын
Australian manufacturing? You're joking aren't you? Just look at our wonderful Gov, the biggest purchase ever made and they're buying it from overseas!! Australia simply can NOT compete. If you doubt that, then put your money where your mouth is and start a manufacturing business here in Aus yourself. Then you might just change your idealistic oh&s views when it costs you 100's of thousands a year!

Yes of course. I actually do as much fit out and optional extras as I can here in Australia already. I use all local businesses for my motors, electronics, installs, vinyl and canvas fabrications etc etc. More local and interstate companies are reaching out all the time to collaborate. So we will evolve in this direction as much as possible

I am writing this message from Jamaica. I was also one of those guys extremely skeptical of ANYTHING from china. I work in construction here and that was my feeling until about 10 years ago when people started importing trucks and other heavy equipment from china. Now if anyone has visited a third world country you will see that we overload and overwork everything! And I have seen these dump trucks painfully overloaded and they are still going. They have recently taken over the trucking industry here because everyone loves them. The same for the heavy equipment the excavators and tractors so I can totally agree with you it all depends on the factory you get things from. There are crap factories for sure but there are also very good ones. That actually convinced me to import one of these boats from china as well to “test the waters” with them in the Caribbean. So I guess we will see how that goes.

I have a couple of questions.. What is the warranty period? What happens and who pays for any any repairs that come under warranty, like cracking, corrosion issues etc after a couple of years use? As pretty sure Australian consumers' claims for any type of reimbursement won't be backing you?? Guess that could be a shit fight to who is going to cover it if the ACCC wont back you... Not saying the quality is questionable, but things can happen in the harsh Australia conditions. Does someone like you as the importer initially cover the costs of warranty repairs and then they reimbursed you?? Just asking.. Cheers

Im going to show my age and point out a few things here. After the 2nd world war, japanese products were known as crap and universally reviled in exactly the same way that you are talking about China. We still all purchased their transistor radios and other stuff. Now they have toyota and panasonic etc etc. (who have lots of plants in china by the way). I have imported a lot of products from china in different fields (i mean in bulk for business), and i would say as rule of thumb, if you invest in going there, teaching them, improving their finish and design, requiring good systems control, they turn out top quality goods. If you just buy stuff randomly you will get a real lottery including a lot of ****. Ive seen both. The world manufacturing hub moves where the available low labor and materials cost is. It was in the philippines and taiwan after japan and now its in China. They still have intelligent people, (and in the right factory - state of the art tooling) that with good communication can produce anything as well as any other country. Ive seen that they do not innovate design well themselves but if you show them what to build its good quality. (as long as your supervising it :) cheers. just my thoughts not disagreeing with anyone. The decision to buy local is a personal choice and one that is to be commended, but it doesnt automatically mean that you cant get quality from China or elsewhere under the right circumstances.

I can't talk about the boats they build but can talk at length about their locally manufactured Oilfield equipment which is universally JUNK that's banned from wellsites operated by any Western standard company around the world that care about the safety of their employees. The chinese are fantastic at copying technology invented and perfected elsewhere and producing a cheap copy that will turn into a fucking hand grenade when the high pressure it's meant to withstand is applied, regardless of their "very stringent in house QC testing" that's incorrectly rated it! Then, some manufacturers have tried over the years to have their products built there but found that even with 24/7 Expat supervision watching every step like a Hawk they WILL still find a way to cut corners and fuck it up. Like I said I can't talk about their boats as I have no experience with that but I do know I would not want to be in a chinese built boat 50 km offshore and the weather went off knowing that my safety suddenly depended on the welding job done by Mr Ping with ZERO tertiary education who was getting paid $48.15 per month, maybe. I wouldn't be relying on chinese built outboards to get me home either and have no doubt they're only copies of real outboards but with a tendency to shit themselves properly at the worst possible moment as well. They didn’t get this reputation for no good reason...

All those companies you list are only in China because of the slave wages, zero health and safety laws and no unions. The only reason China has any claim to those companies successes is what I listed above. Also the welding on those Chinese boats is terrible, not to mention the quality of the aluminium used. China is renowned for crap quality metal and I'd bet anything that their supposed marine quality aluminium would not stand up to any level of metallurgic examination. All that aside support Australian companies and workers people, we don't need to be spending our money overseas, spend it in the country that made it possible for you to earn that money. Also the welding on that boat you're sitting in front of looks ordinary at best

Using 'it's a throw away comment' is in itself a throw away comment and shows that any negative comments on chinese quality should be thrown away. It is a FACT that chinese manufacturers have and will cut any cost possible with labour and materials to make money. The chinese economy is tanking and this will furthermore have an impact on the quality of these boats. Many people a sprucing the chinese cars which in turn have many quality issues from the start and always will. In my case I would rather spend 20% more to get an aussie built unit with materials that are pure and certified than have in the back of my mind the likelihood of a chinese boat playing up whilst offshore. Your spiel is only to market 'your' boats and fill your pockets with the margins. This video makes me sick.
