I must say yeah its pretty affordable. I bought a rie drt 1:1 for $620 and for a year rode hard on it and its very nice. I did then spend extra 600 dollar on upgrades this year but that was because I decided to ride more agressive and change the suspension for 100mm to 120mm, stronger brakes, pedals, more agressive tires and get a 1x12 drive terrain. But the bike stock is cheap and still very good.

For my first hardtail, I went with a Marlin 5 for 800$. Best purchase of my life. So far that bike has led me to my PR of 110km for a day. So happy

Yeess I have a full sus since a few months, but a few weeks ago I got a on-one 45650b hardtail (140mm travel, steel frame) with pretty nice pieces (RockShox Reba, SRAM NX, Magura levers and Shimano brakes (reverse shigura, ik the levers from Magura are bad, bit I'll switch them) ) for 200 bucks. The bike is 9 or 10 years old, but it's the best I've ever ridden. Just so smooth everywhere, because steel isn't as stiff as aluminum. I love this thing. If I don't go ride big jumps or try new big features and stay under 3m jumps and 1m drops, I'd rather take my hardtail than my full sus

Used to be a hardtail guy until I borrowed a full sus last year. I had people tell me once I rode the borrowed bike I’d never be able to go back to my hardtail and I thought they were idiots. They were completely right I bought a full sus a few months ago

Hard tails are good for some things but you can’t deny that they will eventually hold you back on tech and going fast on rough trails. Some people say more suspension more room for error, but look at the pros, you’ll never see a pro enduro racer on a hardtail and especially not a pro downhill racer on a hardtail, with the exception of slope style full suspension is better.

I mean he did the world enduro series using his hard tail, it’s doable you just need to know that your body is gonna suffer more and you won’t be as quick as a full sus, said that I want 300 mm of full sus 😂😂😂😂

Hardtails give you more bang for the buck compared to a full suspension, but still not cheap if you want good components and a relatively good fork. Yes, a $1k Hardtail is much better than a $1k full suss, but as you get around $2k, some "budget" full suspension bikes are actually decent and worth upgrading as money allows, imo, and I only have a hardtail.

Yeah, I don't agree with this weird sentiment that Hard Tails are basic and any caveman can understand them while full suspension bikes, which don't have many extra parts, are only for rich, smart people who do complex mathematics in their mind 24/7.

There no denying that hardtails are simpler and require less maintenance. A decent full suspension bike can get prohibitively expensive for someone wanting to get into riding.
