I have an 01 LSV8. I bought it a little over 10 years ago when it had about 105,000 on it. In those 10 years I've added my own additional 100,000+ miles on it. Every day I'm marveled by it's simplicity and ease to drive. Even as recently as yesterday, I was walking away from my car and I kept looking back at it thinking "man, that's a beautiful car." Every line is perfect. The only thing is I would change about the outside appearance is to have the trunk be a little longer. It gets me up to 70 mph nice and smooth when I'm getting on the highway, and I have no problems getting in front of BMWs, Mustangs, etc. when I need to. As far as repairs, it's just as they say. I've replaced most of the coils (some coils twice), spark plugs, both catalytic converters, front lower ball joints, upper control arms, assorted cooling system parts, an alternator and probably some other stuff I'm forgetting. Also, on the earlier models like mine, they were prone to timing chain tensioner failure. One of my tensioners snapped at ~145k . That one was a nightmare but my Lincoln survived it. My current issues are that my car does not go in reverse and my air conditioning doesn't work. Still, I love my car. It does the things I need it to do, it's beautiful, it has character and it stands out because you don't see too many of them around. One of my favorite things is when I'm driving and see another person driving an LS and we wave at each other. It's a thing of beauty.

Your damn right it's a beautiful car. I got a 05 and I've loved it since I bought it from my granny. It was my grandpa's car and he was very nice to her. Documented every service and any work done. Tried to follow in his steps but I've been a bit hard on her. But I don't think I'll ever get rid of her. She my baby. And my first car I ever bought and paid for. Shell go to the grave woth me.

Alright, now hear it from me, someone who worked as a porter at a Lincoln/Mercury dealership for 4 years from 2008-2012. Obviously at no time I was there did we sell these brand new but I kid you not. I seriously kid you not, literally EVERY SINGLE DAY I came to work, there was always at least 1 Lincoln LS in the shop getting work done. Not just oil changes either, I mean something went wrong and needed to be fixed. Typically at the end of the night there would be one on a lift left to be completed the next day or beyond. EVERY SINGLE DAY FOR 4 YEARS!!! Now at some point I just had to ask one of the techs "Yo, what's up with this car? Is this just a bad car? Is it because of the Jaguar platform? What's going on with the LS? Why has there be one here every single day I've worked here?!?!" and what he told me makes enough sense. He said "It's really not a bad car, it's just that so many people bought these when they came out that they come in all the time for various things. It's actually a pretty good car if you take care of it" Then another tech said "Yeah, it's one of those cars that when it's good, it's REALLY GOOD, but when something goes bad, it's REALLY BAD" So take that how you want to. I have a feeling you'd have a hard time finding a V6 model with a manual as I've literally only ever driven and seen V8's come through the shop. As many as it's been, it's only been V8's, I didn't even know they had a V6 model till I saw this video, so of course I never saw the manual one. But let me tell you, when I say this car is FAST, man! Light touch at the throttle and this thing hauls ass! But it's rear-wheel drive and out of all the cars I've driven in snow especially at that dealership, this car is among the WORST for getting around thick snow and getting out of stuck spaces. For me there's a tie between this, Mustangs, and the early 2000's Lexus SC thing (the hard top convertible that some people hate). Fun fact: the LS and the Ford Thunderbird not only share the same chassis/drivetrain but the EXACT SAME interior. Button for button, curve for curve. I know you're wondering "how can a 4-door Lincoln share the same interior with a 2-door Ford?" Check out photos and you'll see what I mean. Except the Thunderbird came with options to color bits inside the same as outside, really neat. But I've noticed Thunderbird owners take better care of their cars than LS owners. Just a little extra knowledge for anyone looking to buy one of these. I've never driven a Thunderbird in the snow though, so I guess it's gonna be the same as the LS performance-wise. Hope this helps anyone with an eye on the LS. EDIT: (a year later) Wow! Did not realize I reached so many people with my comment! So glad I could help add to the conversation about this car, just sharing what I know about it from a dealership shop's perspective.

Yeah but you definitely pay for a Lexus, the Lincolns can be had so cheap (but I guess they will need a lot more to be replaced and worked on... then coating more money in the long run...) I'm seriously considering buying a Lincoln LS, am I crazy?
@Nightbird.
@Nightbird. 5 жыл бұрын
@@jfish9014 I understand where you're coming from. These Lincoln's can be had for cheap..but always remember there's a reason for that. I learned how to drive in a Lincoln Town Car..and my first car was a Lincoln Continental Mark VI..so..trust me when I tell you that my love for Lincoln is long. But..the thing is..these things were made cheaply. And you just can't get around that. It comes down to..do you want a car like a Lexus that was built good from the start so therefore anything it needs in the future will probably be just regular maintenance..or a Lincoln that is already known to have quality issues and will need more parts replaced in the future which will not only cost you money but time as well? For me..I'm going to purchase a used Lexus LS430 with as low miles as I can afford..and which is a car that is known to go 300-500k miles easily with just maintenance. I loved my Lincoln Mark VI and would still like to get another..but it will be a weekend car only.
@jfish9014
@jfish9014 5 жыл бұрын
@@Nightbird. I really like the LS430 as well, but they are still fetching $10,000 for a nice example. I'm used to BMW and Chrysler reliability, so maybe a Lincoln wont be that bad based on my current experience (2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland and 1997 BMW 328i). The Lincoln LS wont replace either of these, but would be used in conjunction with all three for weekly duties (depending upon which one isnt broken down! Hahah). Any long distance travel, I usually treat myself and rent a nice car just to have extra fun.
@Nightbird.
@Nightbird. 5 жыл бұрын
@@jfish9014 Wow bud..you've already been punished with the BMW and Chrysler..hate to see you doing it some more..lol! But I totally understand where you're coming from. Keep in mind that an LS430 that is over 100k miles is still a good buy IF they changed the timing chain at the the 100k mark..as that is a crucial and VERY expensive procedure. So..if you can find a cheap one over 100k miles with the timing chain done..you could get it for well under $10k..especially if you don't mind getting the ones that were pre-facelift up to 2003. This is the place I usually shop for cars since it lists them nationwide: www.carsforsale.com/Search?SearchTypeID=2&Make=Lexus&Model=LS+430&BodyStyle=&SubBodyStyle=&MinModelYear=&MaxModelYear=&MinPrice=&MaxPrice=5000&FromEstimatedMonthlyPayment=&ToEstimatedMonthlyPayment=&MaxMileage=&FromFuelEconomy=&Radius=&ZipCode=&State=&City=&FullStateName=&Latitude=&Longitude=&Conditions=&HideRepairable=&FilterImageless=&PricedVehiclesOnly=&OrderBy=Relevance&OrderDirection=desc&PageResultSize=15&PageNumber=1&TotalRecords=&FromDate=&ToDate=&DaysListed=&SourceId=&SourceExternalUserID= Just call and ask if the timing chain was done after 100k miles and make SURE they can produce document proof of this. Many people who own these cars don't realize how dependable they are after the 100k mile timing chain replacement is done and they sell them for really cheap. You can also register with the Lexus website and put in the VIN number of any Lexus car and it will show you ALL work done at Lexus dealerships nationwide. Let me know how it goes bro!

The LS would represent the pinnacle of Ford’s History to build the complete representation of a European inspired mid-size sedan. Previous attempts by Ford were built from modified traditional layouts. However the LS was designed from the ground up to achieve the goal set forth.

Fingers crossed that's my only issue with it until I get another ride. and yeah, the premium gas suuuucks...
@fattygamer94

You're comment is like 4 weeks old but be careful with the leak. The upper radiator hose could have a little crack in the plastic parts, a clamp somewhere could be loosing strength,Thermostat housing could have a little crack, or your coolant reservoir/ recovery tank could be cracked. Be very careful where you buy some of these parts from. Cheap parts will fail very soon. I replaced my reservoir with a cheap one from Amazon, but a few months later it also cracked. I had to buy one straight from a ford dealer.

The main problem that you have to looks out for is yes the cooling system (because the engineers were obviously on acid when they came up with it) and the DCCV (dual climate control valve) which is why you want to buy one with like 160k miles or more because those problems are already taken care of but if you get one with lower miles chances are you’ll have to replace all of that and if you do end up getting one with more miles you just have to watch out for more of transmission problems and suspension but other than that the Lincoln LS is an overall great car the Jaguar AJ v6 and v8 both are pretty quick for being a 3.0l and 3.9l

I have a 2005 with V8. 97K on the clock. His summary is good. I would say the coil packs are the biggest source of failure. I have determined that the LS needs to be driven long and hard about once annually to keep things running smooth. I do not believe it is a good town runner, it needs to stretch its legs( or the coils packs will give trouble). The transmission also needs to be serviced every 3 years or so, regardless of mileage or it gets cranky. Replacing the cooling fluids required getting all the air out of the system, for this I use the bucket on the radiator opening method. If you don't get all the air out you get overheating issues. Having said this, if you are patient and willing to work with her, the rewards are quite good indeed. She's a fun car to go on long trips. Mine has heated and cooled seats that are very nice when called for. I finally replaced the stock radio and CD changer to a Pioneer unit. The AM radio on mine was very weak when I purchased her in 2008, and was very pleased when the new Pioneer fixed that. I keep her in the garage and she still looks fine.

Skip 91 octane as they recommend,and run 93 the only issue I had was at 160k miles I had 2 coils crap out thats it,and really now a days this is not un common since most vehicle are coil on plug. I had a 2003 LS V8, totally awesome car and a totally different animal than the V6. If your buy one, get a 2003'or newer, lots of upgrades from 2003 model and up. Traction control system mixed with a 50/50 weight distribution and this car handled awesome even in the snow with snow tires on it. This car came out to compete with the bmw 5 series and beat it in the handling department. I had some coil pack issues, leaky rocker cover gaskets into the spark plug bores, one rear wheel bearing and one cracked reads coil spring due to salt from winter roads. Other than that just regular maintenance. The car was comfortable, sporty and ahead of its time with options that are only now more mainstream such as Auto sensing wipers, cooled seats, dynamic stability control and a kick ass sound system. I sold my car 3 years ago, with 330 000 kms on it to a guy in Florida who still drives it and uses it for airport limo. I'm now looking at buying a 2005 V8 because I miss that car so much

I think I will keep this until it can’t be driven and I have even considered purchasing a second. I would never say it’s a perfect car but the bang for the buck is amazing. Parts are easy to come buy and repairs are straight forward. By chance do you know the symptoms of an issue with the DCCV. I have a 2003 and some cooling system issues. I am about to put a new thermostat and housing in mine but I have had issues with the thermostat before now and replaced only the gasket. I assumed it must not have been done right or didn't fix the problem because all my antifreeze blew out and my thermostat was bent when I took off the housing which was screwed. At any rate, my air does not work I figured it needed recharged but after reading these comments I thought I might ask about the DCCV. Also does anyone know if it's worth the time and trouble to simply go thru the whole cooling system and replace all the plastic factory parts with something less fallible? I believe that may be necessary I'm losing antifreeze. I guess after I out the new housing in I'll see how that goes but I do feel the other plastic parts will surely become an issue at some point and I'd like to nip it in the bud. I live the car and how it handles. Is this cooling system thing likely to be a never ending battle or is it worth replacing everything with better parts? Sorry so many questions. I really appreciate your input. Karma will look kindly on you for taking pity on a girl with no car know how. Thanks in advance. 🤗

@@DoNotArrestThisLady Symptom of DCCV failing is the AC blowing hot air no matter what from what I recall. My AC was blowing fine going down the road and it almost immediately went to hot. That was covered under warranty on my '05. My friend who had one as well told me the best thing to do is replace all the plastic parts in the cooling system at the same time and you should be good for 10 years. There are Lincoln forums online that have lists of all the parts to replace. It was over 600 bucks worth of parts several years ago, might be more now. Replace with all Ford if you can, unfortunately you have to go through the dealership for that and it is expensive.

Owned a 2005 Ls V6 model. Silver w/ black interior and polished wheels. It was and is to me a beautiful car. It was a lot of car for the money. In dash cd changer, heated and cooled seats, power memory drivers seat, moon roof, leather, dual zone climate control, and a great ride. Good trunk space too. Of course most of what he mentioned is true too. Expensive parts and to work on. Replaced all the coils, replaced the Dccv, the battery, the o rings on the intake tuning valves, center carrier bearing over the few years of ownership. And the tranny shift issue. Plus it ran on premo when it was 4 bucks a gallon. Sold due to buying a house but still really liked the car. Make sure you put a little cash aside for repairs. Don't be too hard on her. Well I think we are only taking about the Lincoln. LS 2005 v8 when I say that it's an expensive car to keep running operationally. I never owned any other lincoln so I'm not sure but the LS 2005 v8 model is nothing but costly to keep running on a monthly basis... Maby weekly it's good but monthly it's another or the same issue to be fixed again .

I’ve owned a 2002 LS V8 for 3 years and man that car would handle turns and go fast. The only thing I needed to do is a Alternator, spark plugs with coil packs, brakes but everything else I loved, extremely comfortable like all Lincoln’s would drive.

The LS saved my life when about 30 years ago my LS slid off the highway at 65 mph on a wet road, hit a tree, knocked me unconscious for 15 minutes, needed the jaws of life to rescue me, and resulted in only a minor concussion and some bruising. I am so grateful that I traded my Toyota Celica convertible in for this LS just months before.

We are just selling our 2000 LS V6 after 10 years of driving her, She is built solid like a tank and smooth and quiet driving. I have not had any big problems with her besides normal stuff brakes ,tires, lower balljoints, coolant hose unit, clock spring. She is now going to my friends 16 year old girl. Upgraded the wife to a sweet Lincoln MKS AWD Ultimate.

I bought one of these back in 2012. It only had 70,000 miles on it, and was in such perfect condition the back seats hadn’t even been sat in before. The person who owned it bought it off the showroom floor in 2004. Never drove it in the snow or rain. After 6 months the coil pack needed replaced. $900. Then about 3 months later my back strut started to squeak so I took it in and was told that the filler tub for my gas tank was rusted out and was dripping gas into my strut. $1100. 5 months later the A/C clutch went out $900. One year later I got a random “fuel error data” notification on the dash. This notification would randomly come and go. That winter I had to drive it in the snow. This car is a death trap in the snow. It’s so light and rear wheel that if you shift into 3rd it will kick the ass end sideways. After winter I saw that the paint on the bumper was chipped. I spent another $450 to get the bumper repainted. Three days out of the shop and some one at work backed into the front of it. I had to replace the grill ($50 eBay) and get the bumper repainted ($450). That summer I got another check engine light. Took it in and was told the coil pack was shot. I said “fuck this car” haha. Replaced it and drove it to the dealership to trade it in. The car had 120,000 miles on it and I only owned it for 3 years. On the way to the dealership to trade it in, it ran like a champ! I actually had second thoughts. The guy at the dealership wanted to test drive it before we made the deal. On our test drive the engine light came on again! He took it back to the shop and hooked it up to the diagnostic machine and both catalytic converters were bad.... $1200. He said he would still give me $3,000 for it. So this car is a piece of shit and I don’t recommend anyone getting one.

Had an ‘03 LS Sport V8. Bought as a lease return in 06 with 33,000 miles. Had just about all the issues mentioned but not until it hit about 80k miles. I drove a lot of miles so I had issues come up sooner as most owners at the time were older retired people who didn’t put on the miles so fast and the dealer didn’t know what was wrong had to involve manufacturer. They replaced the valve cover gaskets, coil packs, and electronic control module that was fried and covered it under warranty. Traded car in for a Mazda after spending $5000 in repairs over next two years and when the tranny wasnt shifting into gear in morning i was done. With that said when it ran properly it was fun. I took it to 127mph and it ran great.

Here's the BIGGEST problem... repair parts are unavailable. We owned 4 LSes over the years... a 2000 V6, a 2002 V6 and two 2006's. The lack of repair parts caused me to go to The Dark Side (BMW). I still have an NOS HID headlight in my garage! Never had an ABS issue and the DCCV did NOT cause engine cooling issues. The COP's (coil on plug, NOT coil packs) could be an issue if cheap, Chinese coils were purchased. Coils and plugs should also be replaced together to prevent problems.

I had an 04. I bought it in 06. I sent it down the road in 12 with a stack of repair receipts in the glove box. Even a control arm gave up at 60k. Two transmissions, all the coil packs, and the sun roof leaked down the A pillar. The brakes kept the wheels in black powder, so I put in some Wagner pads to stop that. The car was a pain in the butt. Lousy gas mileage too. I forgot to say the air conditioner crapped out one time. Thank Goodness I had an extended warranty. Now in 2019, you hardly ever see one on the road

I had a 2001 LS for about 5 years. That car taught me just how many damn things can break in a car because it seems like everything possible broke. It started with a misfire then an oil leak that killed the ignition coils. It would occasionally backfire when starting it (all this after everything was fixed). The A/C went out, the driver side interior door handle broke off, both driver and passenger window regulators broke. Then the catalytic converter went out - then I traded for a Honda, and it went to the crusher at a ripe old age of about 9 years.

Ever since they came out back in 2000's I loved the Lincoln LS. By 2005 I was old enough to buy one, a 2002 with V6. Did lots of work to it and people use to go crazy but my story doesn't end there. I opened up a used car dealership and I bought and sold over 200 of these Lincoln LS's as we speak I have 4 of them, 2 of those are not for sale one being the 5speed Manual and the other just the V8. They are still beautiful cars. It would've been a legend if it wasn't made by Ford. However it did have lots of issues and some of them were preventable like the 2000 to 2002 V8's had timing chain problems, but if you changed the oil on time and make sure it was the right oil and used Premium gas you could avoid many problems. There are way more problems that he had mentioned and most of them were due to people treating it like a Ford Taurus. The abs system however never had problems with the abs, just abs sensors.

I have a 2005 v8, looks exactly like this. I bout it for 3k with like 120k miles, it was fine when I bought it but apparently the old owner didn't really fix anything, he just sold it as is and I found out after a few months. I get a bad ignition coil every couple months but after I replace it, it runs fine. But I let my dad drive it to work for a few days and he jacked it up by driving fast from stops and stuff. And since it had 120k miles, the spark plugs needed to be replaced but now they definitely need too. I'm replacing them tomorrow. I just got new coils and 8 ignition coils, I only needed 6 tho. And I did have that coolant system problem, a valve and the coolant holder thing was cracked. I fixed it tho,just to find out that the old owner didn't even seal the thermostat so I lost pressure, I haven't fixed that yet but all it needs is a real seal, not some glue like the old owner did

The cooling system is so complex with so many hoses. When you replace once hose you have to replace all of them at the same time. But when everything is working fine this car is a great ride. This car was my biggest nightmare EVER and left us stranded in the summer heat more times than I can count. Having to run the heat full blast in 100+ degree July weather to attempt to help cool the engine going in 5-10 minute runs before having to turn the car back off and let it cool down. No matter how many times we replaced or fixed the coolant issues it would always end up overheating again. Finally I got enough sense to stop dumping money into this bottomless pit and let it become someone else's problem. They were fully aware of the issues, I'm sure they regret that purchase though.

But other than that, it was a solid ass car for us and damn did that little 3.9 liter V8 scream. Plus I think it looks pretty darn cool. Like a BMW but without the retarded looking double grille. Has a lot of Jaguar switchgear too, Jaguar steering wheel, Jaguar shifter, Jaguar switches. Jaguar and Landrover have been notorious for electrical gremlins for at least 30 years now and most of the components and problems found their way into the LS and last Thunderbird. The reason you don’t hear about too many problems on the last Ford Thunderbirds is because it’s a rare car and many are taken really good care of and garage kept. The LIncoln LS as with any Jaguar/Landrover product can be a pleasure to own as long as you don’t use it as a daily driver. They’re good weekend cars and they’re good for the occasional vacation but you can’t expect to put 15,000 mi a year one them and not have frequent problems occur. My mom's Jaguar is 17 years old and has 160,000 miles on it. It has had some problems over the years but she doesn’t drive it as much as she used too. It’s taken very well care of and it drives beautifully, looks good too. Everyone I know who drives them everyday seem to run into a lot of small problems, nothing major but the electrical components can be a bit fussy and can get expensive to diagnose and fix properly. I’ve had the pleasure of working on a few where the costumer had visited the dealer and was quoted $1,300 to replace the oil pan gasket, just to save him money I did it for $300 with a synthetic oil change. Had to drop the subframe, steering rack, unbolt the engine mounts and raise the engine slightly to get the oil pan out. When I finally got the oil pan off naturally I examined the inside to find bits and pieces of old cheap oil filters that had been used over the years. Car was beautiful but it had been neglected using poorly made cheap parts and it was a daily driver.

How, pray tell, is it Jaguar Land Rover's fault that the previous owner cheaped out on parts? Also, my Jaguar is my daily driver, and other than the ABS issue as mentioned in the video, it's fine. X-Type, S-Type, XK, XJ of the era... they all suffered from ABS modules going bad.

I have owned a 2004 Lincoln LS for about 7 years and it has been an excellent car. 2004 -2006 have 285 horsepower the earlier ones have 235. The car is extremely fast and good handling although heavy. Does not ride like your grandfather's town.car. the luxury features in this car make it worth the added expense for maintenance. This car has perforated leather seats in the front with fan driven air conditioned seats and heated seats automatic rain-sensing windshield wipers Factory HID headlight option. Very Advanced car for the time and people very often I think it is a 2010 and newer BMW because of its body shape and sportiness. I have had to replace all four struts over the years the Dual climate control valve which is less than $100 and easily changed yourself all the antifreeze hoses. When one goes change every single one including thermostat housing because they're all made of plastic and they turned into a gooey clay-like substance when old. I always use Amsoil or Royal Purple full synthetic oil to prevent wear to the timing chain. This is not a Honda Civic and must be attended to and maintained but it is definitely not a bad car. If you drive it decently hard expect 12 miles to the gallon and a huge smile on your face. I never had a problem with the ABS butt fixed another one for friend which had a bad ABS module and went to the junkyard and bought one for $40 very easy fix directly bolts to the pump under the hood. there are a lot of these cars in the junkyard which makes it very cheap Ford replacement parts

You forgot to mention the moonroof drain hoses that shrink over time and pull free of the hose barb so any water will leak from front windshield pillars and fill the door pockets with water. NOT a fun fix.

Correct. Whenever it rained it would leak right above the steering wheel. I would a have a puddle right below the seat.

Had one. Beautiful when it's not broken. Coil issues, water leak in trunk, fuel pump shorted, a/c motor stripped gear, radiator spring a leak and blew head gasket. 45k miles and dead

Lincoln ls v8 produced 252 hp not 280, the v6 was a ford built duratec 3.0. I own a ls v6 with the manual trans option, and is the only one i ever saw. i am a retired ford technician and i serviced this car for the original owner and i told him if he were to ever sell it to give me a chance. He was in the military and bam getting shipped out he called me not long after and i bought the car with less that 15 grand on it for 6 grand the car was 4 years old.. of course i also have a 1989 mark vii lsc 5.0 fox body in mint cond 44,000 miles also a 1997 mark viii 32 v 4.6 intech/cobra also in mint cond with 50,000 miles. As most of you know the mark vii is built on the fox mustang platform the mark viii built on the thunderbird chassis. They are a blast to drive and all 3 were ahead of their times in technology just like the ls power window system shheesh everything is controlled my modules some car manufactures just now getting where the ls was in 2000
3 main things to watch out for when buying a lincoln ls v8
