The manual does not say “Phillips”. People assume the “cross” is Phillips.

Or maybe Americans just know ph screws and can’t tell them apart.I never look at the instruction to see what screw driver I need, I look at the screws 😉

The fact that nobody look at the manual for this information doesn't mean it's ok to have it wrong.

@@jccayer well it’s just NA IKEA that’s wrong. There is a lot of fallacies and assumptions in your video. Nothing wrong with a Phillips head - it’s basically outdated and has been for many years. Pozi isn’t wide spread - the world is bigger than North America. It’s widely used in Europe and the Uk for instance. IKEA is Swedish and you would have them use some backwards ancient Us technology such as the philips screw - why? It would suit you to educate yourself on screw types before you educate others 😊

@@kristofferholst6053 The premise of this video is that it is wrong to use a Philips head with a Pozi screw. In the video, we did say that Philips head is an old/dated design. There is nothing wrong with IKEA for trying to abandon a dated design, but it is at least an oversight to misinform their customer on what type of screwdriver they should use to assemble their products. Ikea's NA customer service told us a Philips head screwdriver is what we need when in fact the screw they included is Pozi. Yes, Philips head is as we mentioned dated and less superior, but this misinformation and the lack of customer education caused a lot of frustration for many people in NA, who stripped the screws during assembly. The unpopularity of Pozi in NA also means to get the correct bit is fairly difficult and when you ask, a lot of people don't even know what it is.

@@jccayer I hear you ikea for sure need to update their pictograms. But it just baffles me that people are able to read instructions but unable to look at a screw 😉

The Pozidriv is basically standard in Europe. Far superior to Phillips. There is also a third option which is JIS, which looks almost the same as Phillips but is quite different. We do still get Phiilips screws and they were used years ago. This video just goes on and on. He mentions that Pozidriv may be used more in Europe, but fails to check this. It seems that IKEA in the USA are at fault for not training their staff properly. They also apparently do not show the Pozidriv screws correctly in their instructions.

Pozidriv is the norm in Europe. Phillips are the odd ones.

Thanks! I was just getting ready to assemble an IKEA console and looked at the screw while saying this doesn't look like a regular Phillips head! Thanks.... you saved me.

Im a bit lost. So the posi heads arent tapered but the regular philis are? They look identical to me. One has the fins stick out more sorta? They both taper at that knuckle point just one has a steeper angle and the other doesnt.... What am i not understanding here?

Everything said is true! Even in Europe, we widely use the PZ and distinguish between the PH and PZ types. All the screwdriver sets sold here have both types included. So when we see the "classic" PH screw-head printed in the instructions and use the PH screwdriver, we are confused and disappointed on how "useless" the IKEA screws are! But the truth is, they wrongly noted screwdrivers to be used at the assembly.

IKEA in North America is prime example where "Phillips" bits are chewed up quickly not being able to simply recognize the difference between Pozidriv vs Phillips and use the right bit.

4:45 Crew-sih-form not circumform. Other than that, good details on the differences and how IKEA should include at least a cheap-o bit. But you know us normies with our flat pack stuff from IKEA, we're gonna strip it even with the right tool. We don't even read the directions thoroughly...
