Why not both

Give it food(not from hand), don't actively watch it eat. It's preferable if you are around when you feed it, so they know who to trust. Make sure you make it a routine as well. Eventually, (varying on the how the area treats raccoons) one will gradually begin to trust you. Starting with a baby is the best option, but as the video says replacing the mother is complicated.

I raised a baby raccoon I named Ally, she was so sweet and was like a little teddy bear. She would tug at my ear at 5 every morning for me to feed her and she even learned to give people kisses by putting her nose to the person's lip

Raccoons are definitely more curious than cats. I suppose all mammals can connect with us humans.

Our family has raised 4, 1 at a time of course, and each one was different, but each one was friendly only towards the person that fed it. We traded the feeding chores, and in a few days the raccoon would be affectionate to it's new caregiver. Wonderful pets, but really hard on the furniture.

Was she able to teach raccoon sing language?

I used to hunt ( mostly competition hunts where they aren t killed) with a guy that had one , born in captivity he said weighed 30 lbs. It was the biggest I'd seen and loved pecans. Bit the man's son so bad he needed stitches.

Unfortunately that has changed. One troublemaker and it can create real problems for my babies.

We've been taking care of a young mama and her 3 kits on our patio since early April. She came by herself, thin and scraggly, but we fattened her up on grapes, nuts and PEDIGREE for the protein. She's fat and healthy now, as are the kits. She eats from my hand calmly and carefully and 1 baby does, as well. Never has She displayed any aggressive behavior, but she's a wild animal and I respect her boundaries.

@@07jeepgirl Sadly l can no longer feed my precious babies. It only takes one nasty neighbour. My babies are city dwellers. They used to take what they could from garbage bins but the new ones have locks. I hoped to help them bulk up before winter but now l can't. My dear little ones may well starve over winter.

how can you tell the difference between hyperactivity and rabies or something wrong with it I just started raising a baby raccoon and it's been a baby so far but recently he's been very bitey and mean but still let's me get close enough to hold him, I know googles free but it seems you have experience

@@alysonchevelle5471 have you had the baby raccoon since birth? if so the likelihood that it has rabies is very low. they have to be bitten by a rabid animal, the condition is not present from birth. so unless it is outside and you hear it getting into a scuffle, there’s no chance of Rabies. as for biting and clawing, that’s how they “play” and also it is used as a discovery tool

You and everyone else, have zero business stealing these babies from their mothers. How would you like it if YOUR newborn or slightly older was stolen from you, if you had a baby?? Animals can feel and the babies suffer when they are taken from their parents. It’s biting and mean because it’s a wild raccoon and NOT A DOMESTICATED PET!!! Take it to your nearest wildlife rehab/rescue center or zoo and they will know what to do. They will release it back to the wild where it belongs once it’s old enough and has learned the skills it should.

They can be bred for temperament too. Raccoons are much less aggressive than the wild relatives of dogs. We've got a good starting point.

Right, there is a lot of potential for these incredible animals. Of course they're mischievous and come with sharp edges, but that comes with the joy of raising a furry living creature.

I’ve had numerous babies also when I was young you are exactly right about the temperament changing around the age of 1 year, the males were harder to handle than the females. We always released them away from our home when they got older.

They are wild animals and belong in the wild so leave them in the wild.

If raccoons are so dangerous and full of dangerous and deadly diseases to humans then wouldn't it make more sense for those wildlife experts to capture and administer medications that will kill the deadly roundworms they carry and giving them rabies and distemper vaccines, then tagging them and releasing them back into the wild ? Also have you ever noticed that all the experts who have something to say about every aspect of our lives are always advocating against any thing that people enjoy in life ? Sorry for the long winded rant .. 😁🥰

They are over eating around these months . They are preparing for the winter . They sorta hibernate until March. They will come out occasionally tho during the winter to get more food if needed. They are very fluffy and fat as hell during the winter months 😂😂😂

They take to it fairly quickly (you just need to pee in it once, and they will figure it out from there) That being said, one of the reasons they will never be a popular pet is their pee is one of the WORST smelling things I have ever experienced. Its like cat pee cranked up to 11. This is compounded with you pretty much have to padlock every cabinet, cupboard, refrigerator and trashcan.

They don't speak human...you have to speak raccoon. Chirps, barks, chatters, and they do use "tone of voice" in their interactions... especially with the babies. You can pick it up

It's not about getting one. You should only bring one into your home if they are young and orphaned or if they are injured and disabled. Don't bring wild animals home unless you are helping them and they wouldn't survive without you.

If you do plan on getting a coon don't worry about the scatches as much you'll need to worry about the rabies more make sure it has its shots and you'll want to feed it K.M.R for the first 5 weeks of its life then start adding a little banana baby food or smash wet cat food both work (baby works a bit better tho) and at 9 weeks ween it of the bottle so by 10 weeks it should be eating solid for and drinking only water (also make sure until it poops by itself take a WARM wash cloth and rub in a upward motion to its belly [anus- belly] also burp it after feeding session 1-9 weeks) well that's all I can help you with if you do get a coon so yea have fun if you do

Who said monkeys don't have hands with fingers? I have a troop of Vervet monkeys who visit me a couple of times a week. Always looking for a snack, and sometimes spend hours playing in my garden. Incidently, they even have fingerlike toes.RSA.
