In US news and current events today, it's easy to fear everything, especially certain animals. But this diver was completely calm when a tiger shark approached her in February 2020. Nikki Brady was swimming in the Bahamas when she had a close encounter with a tiger shark. The diving champ touched the shark’s nose to gently direct it away from her, and all was well. Szilard Janko, the videographer who captured this moment, says divers should make eye contact and remain calm when a shark approaches them.
Janko also took footage of a different diver, Dante Weston, feeding a tiger shark near Grand Bahama Island about 2 weeks prior. The takeaway? Animals, especially sharks, are amazing! But it's definitely good to know what to do in the event of a close encounter with a shark and all wild animals.

This is how most encounters with sharks actually go, I've dove with sharks countless times, and they rarely care about humans. The only reason most people are scared of sharks are because of jaws style movies. Edit: essentially as long as you are respectful to them they will be respectful to you, just like any other wild animal.

Also as a side note, generally speaking Sharks hate the taste of human blood, that's why shark attack victims almost always only have a single bite taken out of them. What happens usually is the sharks see people on surf boards, or thrashing around, and think that the people are sick or injured sea life. They then take a bite, taste that it wasn't the turtle or seal they were hoping for so they let go and head off looking for something more to their taste.

They’re not surfers - they’re ‘bobbers’ (like to dress up in the surf gear, throw the board on the roof of the car, wink at the girls, then paddle out on a calm day and bob up and down pretending they’re gutted there’s no waves!). Italy is full of them 😂

Sharks are intelligent creatures and can pick up on your energy...If you have a calm state of being and the shark is not hungry & doesn't feel threatened, you really have nothing to worry about

It’s not surprising. Sharks can be tame, it’s the human being surprisingly tame: usually they destroy and want to hurt wild animals and plants. Exhibit A: putting massive fishing lines with hooks that drags on for miles. Exhibit B: Making Sharks look extremely terrifying in movies and fiction tv shows so people think they are Man eating monsters.

It's true though. Only time that sharks would actually be interested would be if people are on surfboards and laying flat down. It makes humans look like one of their native foods, the turtle. They aren't mindless creatures. Show them who you really are and show respect to them, like any wild animal, and they'll leave you alone.

Sharks can sense your fear so if you stay calm they typically will also be calm. Sharks usually only attack humans if they feel threatened or think the human is a seal. Which is why they usually go after surfers.

By the way grand bahama island is where I'm living right now ... Italy home been so for 38yrs ... I'm a bahamian and love the place ... hate how hurricane Dorian did to it though
