both problem solving and DSA (Data Structures and Algorithms) as well as side project development are valuable skills to focus on. Problem solving and DSA help with technical interviews and algorithmic thinking, while side projects demonstrate practical application and showcase your abilities. It's beneficial to have a balance of both.

there are many sites, you can use LinkedIn, glassdoor, google jobs, but also what works well is to look at starts around you and just email them. You can even DM founders on Twitter, this will help you standout because few people do that (I got several interviews like that)

yeah the market has become ridiculous in many ways, it's also a result of the education system being trash, you are not taught nearly enough in traditional education to be ready for a job

​@@TheLastCodebender Educations job is not to teach me how to become a employee for a specific company, its job is to teach the fundamentals to enable me to pick up any tech stack. I think education at least my education did a good job with that. Companies just do not want train entry level anymore so in my case, I have a Bachelors where I was given training in DataStructers, Algorithms Network systems, DataBase and all that still is not enough? Due to this, a Degree is no better for getting a job then being self taught and the market is even worst for it. Every developer now has to self train themselves or they will not get a job. Some jobs are even saying internships dont count. In the end, you have to build bussiness before you can get a job? Well at that point, you might as well just stop looking for a job and compete with better hiring practice.

@@TheLastCodebender The event goes about 3 hours. Mingle, get coffee, and talk for the first 30 minutes. Then a 30 minute intro circle where people introduce themselves and say what they can help with/need help with, then 2 hours of networking with people, a job search session for helping people with their job search, a session about some technology, and then perhaps an algorithm room. It’s a good place to meet other devs.

Study double majors. Deep master more than one skill.

SWE is one of the only jobs safe from AI. Our job is to translate business requirements into technical solutions. We use code as a tool. Whether that code is generated from scratch, stackoverflow, or generative ai it’s all the same. I think human oversight will always be necessary

AI will not completely take over SWE jobs, but it will make landing a Junior SWE job more difficult. Even right now in my company, the number of internships is vastly stricken and current SWEs are encouraged to use AI tools to do their menial tasks.

Stephen Wolfram, often considered the man who modernized computer science education, believes AI will eliminate computer science as a field of study within our lifetime. The most likely scenario is that the number of man-hours necessary to do the job will change, which will translate into fewer jobs, or even a part-time market for jobs or contractors. You could also look into becoming a machine learning engineer or AI developer. Eventually, the only thing safe from this type of automation will be things that require skilled hands on attention, or those developing the tech itself.
