Having worked at currys, I feel sorry for the staff, the staff don't get any training what's so ever. They promise you all these amazing opportunities, all these amazing trainings than, than nothing, the reason why customer service is bad is because these poor staff are too scared to get their managers to help them as these managers just lick Windows and walk around saying "speak to that college"
@RobiePAX
@RobiePAX 8 жыл бұрын
Before start working in any Dixon's chain such as Currys you were legally obliged to complete mandatory training such as learning about Health & Safety. On that Training Website where you complete this training was also a thing called "PLC" that contains a detailed archive of training for almost every product and category that the store is selling with all the information the colleague would need to know about the product. That is the place where you had to get your training, even if it was not automatically assigned to you.

Bavarian lahm yeah the plc has an archive of every product currys sells and details on both products and brands. its not mandatory unfortunately so you can get one staff member that can help anywhere in the store or another who never did he training who can only stick to basic things.

the smashed tv was sent off to independent 3rd party experts by Currys to check if the damage was intentional and they found out that the paint splatter couldn't have been done by mistake and was therefore intentional. :)

I used to work in Currys, I was the best or second best salesperson in the store. I sold whatever happens and I sold it pretty hard (although my WEH% rate was still I think second worst in the store). If a customer had come back into the store when they'd broken their tv in that manner I would have fought with head office to get the repair done, that's exactly the sort of thing it should and does cover and that's exactly the sort of stuff I'd sell it for.

Anyone who takes out a warranty like that is a moron, that guy paid £10 a month and was going to for six years, so he would have paid £720 in total, So not only would he have lost £180 anyway as he was paying for a legal warranty. If the TV never fails, he would have lost £720. Why not just put £10 away each month and use those savings to repair it, and after six years, use the £720 to but a much more modern TV?
@mcfcguvnors

its under warranty for a year so no need to even sell that policy - after that id give it 3-5 years BEFORE youd even need a policy ,laptops are different they have that inherent built in twatometer that starts to play up after a year orso ( simply reinstalling windows & NOT getting updates from the manufacturer often cures that along with uninstalling the spam ware they load onto the laptop ) these are a waste of time ,if a tv is shot thats fair enough ,most can be repaired simply these days as they are digital ,mainly boards software hardware with half a dozen peripherals,this guy was a complete tool,paying a tenner a month & then being so brain dead he actually left the tv in the living room while decorating,what a spanner !

He said when ya make a claim they won't have the same tv in stock so they would have to give u a better one. That's what I did and they sent me a cheque which I went to Currys and bought a better one. No quibbles just came and picked up tv and sent me a cheque

I worked for Currys and quit after a month. My job was literally lie to customers to make sales. Sell the care plan above everything else. Sell overpriced accessories with every sale. A sale with no care plan and no accessories is called a "dead sale" and they would rather you didn't even buy anything. I couldn't go into work every day and lie to customers, horrible company.

Also, believe me, 99% of the CEO's actually want to make the best possible choices for their company, not fill their own pockets as fast as they can.

I paid 59.99 in cash but they tried to give me 60 in £20 notes for the refund and asked me to give them a penny to make up for the extra penny I'd recieve in a refund. I told them I didn't have a penny at which point they rejected the refund until I could provide them with a sufficient payment. I think I'll stick to amazon from now on

I used to work in Dixon's call centre in 2001, I worked for (Coverplan) as it was called then. I didn't agree with a lot of their policies, and actively sought to actually help customers. e.g. Follow up repairs etc. I had people calling back and asking to specifically speak to me, because I was so nice on the phone. The management took me aside, and ordered me not to speak to specific customers if they called for me. I remember their policies on mobile phone theft. 'I'd like to report my mobile phone stolen.' 'When was it stolen Sir/Madam?' 'Monday' 'And when did you report it stolen?' 'Wednesday' 'I'm sorry you're not covered - you have to report it in 24hrs' (more like 'fuck you' you're not covered). That's what it felt like to me, I hated that job. I remember one customer who'd bought a T.V., she lived out in the country so it was quite a journey. She got the T.V. home, it didn't work. The shop gave her a replacement T.V., when she got that home, that didn't work. So, she took that back. She was offered a refund because there were no more T.V.'s of similar quality, she refused and opted for a replacement. The shop became awkward. She phoned Coverplan, I told her that legally she could have a replacement, a repair, or a refund; and that it was HER CHOICE (previously I had been a law student), and not to be bullied into what the shop wanted to do. Suddenly, 'said shop' magically found a replacement T.V.!!!! They gave her back the same replacement T.V. to take home for a 2nd time, knowing that it didn't work. (Commerce laws have changed a lot since then re:austerity) I was dismissed from that job after advising her what the law stated her entitlement was. Dixons tried to open stores in America, the American's quickly realised what they were up to. The stores closed quickly after they'd been 'fucked off' by the American public. Anyway, Dixon's, Curry's, PC World, are all the same company. Dixon's shut up shop after a while because of bad press and falling profits. But everybody knows they're the same company, with just a different name. That is why, I would never EVER buy anything from a target-driven company who 'I' believe have very bad customer service.
@clipsfromfilms
@clipsfromfilms 6 жыл бұрын
Well done for getting fired from this company for acting with integrity, over the upper management corrupt profit only targets. Too bad the customers dont realise that "shit rolls downhill" from the upper management, and the bad customer service is due to staff having to follow strict company targets that work against the customers interest. I also worked for this company around the same time as you, and it must be the worst company I have ever worked for.

While I agree Currys staff were being dishonest about the insurance policy, I can't grasp how functional adults are willing to enter into a contract to pay £648 in six years without first reading the agreement they're enrolling into. Why would you assume shop staff can proxy as your legal counsel and give their interpretation of the contract you're about to sign? The fact they're willing to pay £9 per month for six years for such an expensive but loose insurance policy suggests to me these folks aren't financially literate nor aware of how to inspect a long-term contract before agreeing to its terms.

I worked for this company for 15 long years. The amount of time I saw the team leaders lying and laughing once the customers left the store staggered me. I ended up working in customer service. The amount of hdmi lead refunds and cancelled whatever happens, and ldc delivery failures and complaints were crazy. Avoid at all costs, I complained about the 'hard sell' for warranties, I was told to carry on as its very profitable for the company. Terrible company and practice.

The cheap crap Vestel TV's they sell (always the ones with dodgy PSU's) are probably the most popular TV I fix in my repair shop, they're made by the Turkish (Vestel) and then branded differently. Even the cheaper Samsung and Sanyo TV's are Vestel made. 99% of the time it's the output voltage filter circuits on the PSU, either capacitors, diodes or resistors. They're easier to fix than chasing insurance.

I bought an iPad (third generation) in 2012 and was sold the 'Whatever Happens Plan' to which the guy in store said "After so long, the batteries don't charge like they do at the beginning, but we'll even replace the battery when this happens." To which I've just noticed in the video in the small print that Batteries aren't covered! And if they can't repair it, I'll get a brand new replacement. Even if there's a new model. But regardless, in 2014 my battery wasn't holding a charge and it was severely overheating. Took it into Curry's and they sent it away to a repair centre, where surprise, surprise, an engineer told me there was nothing wrong with it. And nevertheless, a few days later I got it back, and soon noticed he'd beaten my Flappy Bird score. I thought to myself it must be a pretty good job to just sit there and play games all day. I sent it back, same thing happened. And finally we took it into store a third time and because the manager knew us, he replaced it. Can't believe the trouble we went through to sort it out. "Whatever happens." It's a joke
@JHsadler
@JHsadler 7 жыл бұрын
I used to work for Curry's and I always told my customers that it was within fair use. So if you used your iPad as a frizbee for example then it wouldn't be covered, anything accidental and it's okay. It's funny looking back, as my honesty meant that I wasn't meeting my sales targets each week. I wouldn't blame any other salesman for 'lying' though as you literally know no better. You just do what you're told...

Sickguy Jam i wouldn't either. Bought a laptop and upon opening the box I saw the charger was snapped in two on the end. Took it back immediately and they wouldn't do anything. It was broken before I got it. Anyways bought a new charger and my laptop has a software malfunction. Sent in for repair and received back being told "couldn't repair due to liquid damage". My laptop came back to me dripping with water. I kicked off raw as I sent it with just a software malfunction and bone dry. What happened I don't know but it smelt of gone off milk and my husband thinks coffee was spilt on it as it had an old coffee smell. After major complaints I got a brand new laptop but had to bug them for weeks. I will never buy from them again. Don't even get me started on the staff that don't know what ram is.

dont buy anything from them.........i bought an expensive washing machine from them - i stay in a flat - the delivery men unwrapped the packaging from the machine in the street and brought it up the stairs into my flat - luckily i was watching them as i noticed the side panel had a huge dent in it (not a small dent) - so i pointed it out and one of them said "oh we never seen that"......i said how the hell can you not see a dent that big on a brand new item......they then tried to persuade me to keep it but i was having none of it and told them to take it out my house there and then as i wasnt signing for it......they took it down to the lorry while i went on the phone to currys......they offered me a small discount if i kept the machine and again i refused as it was expensive and i wanted a perfect item.....during the phonecall one of the delivery guys came back to my door and asked if id take it back - again i refused - i then had to wait 2 weeks without a washing machine for a new one to be delivered........what really pisses me off is the two guys trying to sneak it into my house and about to push it under the worktop where i wouldnt have spotted it.......advice for everyone NEVER accept or sign for inferior goods and check what is coming through your door.........if the machine was damaged in the warehouse then it should never have been sent out for delivery to a customer - if damaged on its way to me then the drivers must have done it.......if anyone has an elderly relative getting something delivered also please make sure you are with them as they wouldnt notice........you can also buy things like a PC online same spec that is cheaper than currys...it pays to search around - dont be so willing to give them your hard earned cash as they nake a MASSIVE profit on all goods they sell and are basically greedy fuckers. I use Amazon a lot. But I agree that it's nice to see what you're buying, especially if it's something large like a TV. Plus, they're not going to accept returns on products which are badly damaged like this. For returns though they are VERY good in general if you simply dislike what you bought. In fact I'd say they actually go above and beyond what should be acceptable as a return, as I work in logistics for returned products and some of them come from Amazon and they're clearly well-used and not able to be resold. Which results in a loss for our company.

Never did believe all this rubbish PC World/Currys spout. They told me they'd changed a hard drive in my computer, they hadn't. I'd written on it in UV ink. The same hard drive with my UV ink was still installed with the same defects. On the other hand though, what sort of fool leaves a very expensive telly in a room where you're decorating ? Some need educating in Common Sense. Trading Standards dropped PC World right in the poop over my hard drive. I was able to secure enough compensation to get the thing fixed PROPERLY by someone who knows what they're doing.

River Huntingdon I'm confused here, you had the ability to open your PC, locate, and/or remove your hardrive, to apply UV ink. Yet you couldn't change your own hardrive and do a simple data transfer ? Which would cost you a lot less. Unless your a private little watchdog. Something seems fishy to me

Probably the worse company to deal with if something goes wrong, first dealing with them involved a laptop where the DVD ROM jammed the disc drive as the PC warmed up, took it back the following day and asked for a new replacement, they initially refused stating that it HAD to go for repair and would be away for about six weeks and was given two choices by the shop manager, submit it for repair or take it away, told him I had two better choices for him both under the sale of goods act, he either gave me a new replacement as they sold me the previous evening was less than twenty-four hours old or hand me back the eighteen hundred quid cash I had paid for it, I got my replacement. The second notable incident involved a 60" Panasonic plasma TV sent for repair, it was gone months and when it was finally returned I was convinced they had sent me someone else's TV as it had a different back, it was still faulty so had to go back for a further repair, turned out the original back had been damaged in transit to the repair facility and they used one they had lying about. Following the second attempt at repair the TV was returned with smashed screen and made a further two trips to the repair facility each time being returned the screen was shattered, on the last occasion I asked the delivery driver to wait while I checked the TV in his presence and finding the screen shattered refused to take delivery. I was offered a Samsung TV as a replacement but refused that demanding the same make, size and specification (Panasonic) as the one sent in for repair and eventually was sent a cheque to cover the cost the purchase of a TV elsewhere. One thing I found notable at the time of the incident with the laptop and which a lot of people won't be aware of is if I had submitted the PC for repair and being mindful that it was less than twenty-four hours old they could have supplied me with a replacement same make and model secondhand PC that had previously been submitted for repair and lain on a stockroom shelf for months.

We bought a toshiba laptop from them 2 years ago. We've been paying for insurance. Over a month ago, we had issues with the battery not holding charge. At first we thought it had to do with a damaged battery charger. So we called Currys and they said they would send us a new charger. They sent us wrong chargers three times, even though we specified the model and the number of pins etc. Three times - over a span of 3 weeks! However, this didn't seem to work. So we took the laptop to the local store. They said it was probably hard-drive damage caused by the laptop being accidently dropped. We received a text a week later saying that the laptop was ready for collection at our local store. We went to get it, and they said it wasn't there. And no one knew anything about it. So we made some calls to the place where they repaired it, and they said it was a text that was accidentally sent to us. A week later, we receive a call from one of the guys from Currys saying we could collect our laptop from the store. We went there again, and they didn't know anything about our laptop. After repeatedly calling them for days, they said we could get the laptop on Wednesday. My wife went this afternoon to get it, and again the laptop wasn't at the store. They said she could come back this evening and confirmed later that the laptop was in. She just called me saying that the data on the laptop was not retrieved, which was the main reason we gave them a storage device and gave it to them. I've lost over one month of important paperwork! Worst service ever. Wish we could get through to complaining

I've never had a problem with them. Sent my Laptop back twice now, first time water had been spilt on it, no problem for them. Second time the charger cable was loose and prevented it from charging. Both times they brought back my laptop within under a week. Good service, I trust KnowHow. The only thing I dislike is when you go in the store and the staff pester you every 15 seconds.

Worse customer service experience I received was from Curry's when I bought an iPad. The guy was and had an attitude, left me waiting for 30 mins, then sold it to me once the sale went through asked me "would you like a bag with that?" I said " yes" he then said that's "5p" I was like "why didn't you mention that before you changed my card" he simply shrugged his shoulders and said he forgot, I felt like just saying fuck it take the iPad back and give me my money. But really needed it.. no apology, no nothing, let me leave with an iPad for the world to see.

Thats perfectly understandable, but from working from a currys & pc world we are permitted to sell as much (crappy) software and hardware as possible (because the company only makes around £20 of profit off just the laptop), and we have to unless we get a penalty point. We can only get 3 of these points every month, and so the workers are practically pressurised into having to force customers to buy the product and any software or hardware available for it. The quality of the product would also not be put down to the retailer, but the manufacturer. Selling a similar product is also an inconvenience as we need to find out what you ant in a laptop then we do the work eliminating different laptops.

who are you trying to fool........i have worked in wholesale and i know the prices these companies buy laptops for..........if they are selling a laptop for £300 then you can guarantee big companies like currys are buying them by the pallet load and are paying NO MORE than £60 each plus vat for a laptop.....they get basic standard electric kettles for £2 each wholesale by the pallet load.....staff are under pressure to meet sales targets so of course they will try persuade customers to buy a more expensive item.

I like how all the people below is only saying insurance is rubbish is scam, while warranties on electronics generally are crappy, everyone failed to see the bigger picture where the owner is obviously being ignorant. Warranties like these usually explicitly states "if the item or product is defect in of itself, we will repair it" meaning if the product itself fails or have issues right out of box. But it also says "other liabilities is with the owner of the product" meaning if the owner does some stupid shit and cracks the screen or pour water in it. The retailer has the right to refuse the warranty. The guy who owned the TV said it himself "he dropped paint on the TV and the ladder and him fell on the corner of it breaking the screen". It should be obvious to anyone this is purely the owner at fault not the retailer.

Aoru Whatever Happens is explicitly to cover accidental damage. An ideal example is indeed if a wii-mote goes through a tv screen. It is supposed to cover stuff like that.
@441meatloaf
@441meatloaf 7 жыл бұрын
Sometimes it pays to read fine print. In majority of the retail market, examples like Wii-mote is an additional warranty you have to pay. It never comes standard. It is also a marketing ploy when anyone says "anything happens we fix it". Warranties generally don't work that way because if the user breaks it then it is them at fault. Also, retail companies will have separate insurance for issues like Wii-mote that you "add on" to regular warranty in case it does happens, but that is additional not standard warranty which most electronics warranties are. For instance Best Buy asks you if you want additional protection for TV if a Wii-mote goes flying through the screen, but standard policies don't cover that.
@cjeam9199
@cjeam9199 7 жыл бұрын
Aoru I'm telling you, stuff like the wii-mote, stuff like the paint dropping on it of the unit being dropped, that is what Whatever Happens is there for. There are no further coverage upgrades for it.

Used to work at Staples. The management was only interested in flogging extended warranties to customers apparently offering the same as Curry's PCW in this video. And we weren't even on any commission. Just as well in a way as one team leader admitted he scared customers into taking out the useless agreements. The ex PCW staff member is right. There is a paucity of training in such retail environments. My training consisted of watching a two hr. corporate video. And again no training whatsoever when selling extended warranties.
