I have it, SMP 300m black, and will never exchange with a Sub; the scape valve is also what is making me loving it, there are chinese "hommage" that doesen't have it and it's clear that something's missing... BTW, I also own Rolex so it's not matter of being fan of one or of another, it's just because this watch is amazing! If there's one thing that I agree with, Omega has to stop kicking out tons of version and editions, it floods the market and kill the brand and product image.

I own the Seamaster 300m, the Submariner and I owned several Black Bays, and the only one I never considered selling is the Omega. The Submariner seems perfect indeed, but honestly it's quite dull. And all the Black Bays I've owned (3 so far), I've sold because they were too slap-sided, too chunky, too uncomfortable or simply not my thing... As a collector, I don't want a bunch of perfect but bland watches... I want something that has a bit of character and quirkyness.

Truth be told, I love it the way it is. The valve, the 42mm, the empty triangular hands, the small little details, the fancy on a dive watch, the height, the less than perfect customer service, you can add the history, the marketing, the appeareance in media, the legendary former ceo Beaver, you add it all in, and what comes out is the perfect watch. "The watch". This watch at roughly $6000 entry price is the nightmare of every single watchmaker competitor in the $3000-$9000 price bracket. There is nothing like it.

its way too thick, not even gmt, if it was GMT then i would get its thickness. 39.5mm planet ocean really needs to shrink it down below 13, also add a unique dial for the planet ocean or something. 39.5mm should be 300 meters instead of 600 so they can reduce the thickness. or make a seamaster at 40mm and remove the helium value. try to make it similar to the titanium yacht master rolex. it will surely sell!

For my 50th birthday this year, I treated myself to a Seamaster 300M. Although I had a white one in mind, when I saw it in person, I decided to go for a black one. I also have no problems with the 20mm strap and clasp. For me, the only legitimate complaint, which is also mentioned in this video, is the lunette. It is actually very difficult to rotate, and the clicks are not very satisfying either. Otherwise, it is beautiful and brings me joy every time I look at it. And that is what it is all about, is it not?

My take on Omega's dilemma is that, over time, high quality engineering and design is way more important than styling. Omega's design and engineering is, I think, very good [I've had my much loved and very, very reliable Dynamic for nearly 50yrs] maybe as good as Rolex at times but their stylists don't seem able to exercise the same classy restraint, [always excepting the Speedmaster Pro]. There is an assuredness about Rolex design that's the result of high intelligence and high aesthetic appreciation that has always set it apart and is extremely difficult to emulate.

I won't normally compare a Seamaster with a Black Bay. Seamaster vs. Submariner yes. Agree that there's simply too many variants to the point that it dilutes the model. Omega could do with some consolidation. The 007 edition is now way too expensive. In terms of size, the Seamaster is similar to it's competitors so it's an unfair criticism. Omega produces the handsomest dive watches and the Deep Ocean (Mariana Trench) edition with that coruscating blue dial and texture is sublime. It's like a Grand Seiko textured dial. If Rolex is conservative, Omega is adventurous. There's only one solution to this problem, just get a Seamaster and Submariner and call it quits.

For those bashing the review. Please learn to think critically. He’s not saying the seamaster is a bad watch. On the contrary, it’s a great watch with serious dive credentials. His main argument is that the seamaster has so many variants and options it’s hard for someone interested in the watch to find the right one. He also points out that the seamaster has aesthetics that are unique and bold and that may put off someone who’s strictly looking for a luxury watch and not an actual tool to help go diving. The quality and the narration of watch finder videos is second to none. The problem is most people aren’t accustomed to a well written review. In the KZfaq era they are accustomed to hearing words like “sh*t” and “beast”. Sad that people’s critical thinking has depleted to this level but hey AI will at least keep society moving forward. 😂

The 42mm case does wear slightly smaller. I can confirm that. But the bezel was indeed a let-down. Looked nice, all that, but the rotation and the clicks were not firm, at all. It also had backplay on it. For that amount of money... just no. I mean, even the ceramic Hydroconquest has better bezel acrion overall. You can trash Rolex as much as you want, but they get their priorities straight and they would never allow a loose bezel on their products.

My two cents. Trash talking a watch like this puts it up there with the best. Same for trash talking of a Submariner. That doesn't mean they are effectively the best, but the perception of exclusivity remains, plants its seed and grow. No matter what our great friend Andrew says. In fact he do perfectly knows what he's doing, like a sort of reverse psychology speech on all the faults just to let you appreciate more the object for what it is. Once you start to like the faults too, that's your watch. And at the end it's the core of what makes a person to decide to pull the trigger: I like it, I want it, I buy it. In other simpler but abused words, always buy what you like. I did this myself: got myself an Atowak Ettore Drift. Arrived yesterday and I genuinly cannot stop staring at it. It's not even in the same league of the Seamaster, but the fact remains. If it tickles you, there's a big chance it's worth your money.

It's the annoying helium escape valve crown at the 10-11 o'clock position. It's become a signature feature for the Seamaster, but only because it's merely a distinct design feature from most other brands'. That is, it's _not_ because it particularly looks good or is more/just as practical as how other brands do it (i.e. an automatic helium escape valve that's flush with the case surface, as opposed to an unnecessary extra crown that's an eye sore).

I recently got my first Omega, the Great White with the rubber strap. I got it new with a few thousand off. It is a bit big and heavy, but the case is a lovely sculpture whose swirly lines continue in the design of the movement visible through the display caseback. The engineering and materials are excellent as well, and it's crazy accurate. The laser ablated waves on the ceramic dial and the play of light on this dial are just fun. The appropriate alternative to this watch is not the Black Bay but the Pelagos, preferably in titanium, which is the anti-Seamaster. The differences are so stark that these two would be the perfect dive watch collection.

I owned the Black Bay 41 with the smile dial and the ETA movement. I sold it for an SMP 300M firstly cause I was bored by its design. Then its profile is quite ugly and pedestrian, and its also too thick. The Omega has more character and its see through caseback allows us to see its nicely decorated and technically more advanced movement. Really worth the price difference in my opinion.

I was recently in an online discussion with someone concerning watch sizes. I have a 7.5" wrist, and I like a watch that "fills" my wrist. Generally speaking, 42 mm is where I start, and I have watches up to 46mm, with 44mm being a nice sweet spot. I do have a 40mm Khaki Field watch, but I rarely wear it, and to me at least, it looks disproportionately small. The gentleman with whom I was having the online discussion claims to have an 8.25 inch wrist and says he wears 36-40mm watches. I don't know, perhaps his wrist is more circular and therefore not as wide when looking down on it. Perhaps mine is wider but shallower. There are so many beautiful pieces that are 40mm or less (think Explorer, Daytona) that I wish came in larger variants. At any rate, I'm glad for the larger sizes. Ultimately, I'd really love to get Omega's Mariana Trench Ultra Deep or Rolex's James Cameron Deepsea.

I don't understand, if it costs as much as - or even a little more - than a submariner, why should this be a reject? Its a much better and much more iconic watch than the submariner, not to mention the blackbay... The escape valve is nothing short of one of the things which makr this watch so iconic. Its like the rear engine in the porsche 911... there is nothing logical in it, but everyone wants it to stay there. Its a dive watch... yes. Thats why people buy it? No. People buy it because its cool. No one dives 300m, almost no one needs the escape valve... but we all love it. And wait... do we love the one-version-submariner, that looks and always looked like a casio? Is it better than having many versions for everyone to like? The bracelet and the bazel are so clean and beaufiful, they are such great features of this watch. In short, the seamaster the best watch for its price, clear and simple.
@watchfinder

The market determines the answer to that question. Submariner goes over retail, Seamaster can be had for discount. The Seamaster has personality, and that means it'll be less universally popular.
@royroy333
@royroy333 7 ай бұрын
@@watchfinder Again, I challenge your statement. Lets take again the porsche 911 turbo gt3 for example, its being produced without limit (i.e no limited edition), and many many many people would prefer it to the Bugatti Veyron, which was produced in limited numbers. The fact that the Submariner is being produced in limited numbers, thus making it hard to find & buy, doesn't make that watch any better than a Casio Marlin Duro even (the Submariner's twin brother, btw), not to mention the Seamaster which is much better looking... ;-)
@fj7509
@fj7509 2 ай бұрын
@@royroy333 With that logic, you absolutely cannot say Omega is a better brand than Rolex just because you can walk in and get the watches at retail. I know you didn't say that, but that is largely the consensus people have when comparing the two brands. The Submariner is objectively the better watch. It has a better bracelet, clasp, movement (more accurate, higher beat rate, better power reserve), better materials, way better bezel sound, better finishing (look at macro shots), and a better brand that is more iconic. The sound of the bezel should be an automatic win for the Rolex. The Submariner's personality is that it doesn't need personality. Omega has had to redesign the Seamaster dozens of times and has yet to get it remotely right whereas the Submariner was and is an instant success.

I am a SMP300 owner for the past 1.5 years, its been my 'one and done' watch so I am completely biased.😂 My only comment on the video is everything noted in it has been said countless times by different reviewers/experts/watch enthusiasts across all the different platforms for years. I was expecting something different, a new insight from the great watchfinder team. So bit disappointed to be fair. I could nearly write the script....HEV, bezel, different variations, bracelet, costs, dial detail etc. I understand the reasons for the rehashing of the same typical points, its gets traction on the platforms. Would any of the 10 points put me off purchasing the SMP300, not in the slightest. Does Omega's standing in the world of watches bother me, nope. I appreciate the SMP300 for what it is and i love it. Hope everyone finds their 'one and done' watch, wear it with pride and love it. Biased rant over.😂

Some of the points are valid especially the wide variations of Seamasters, non taper bracelet and bezel action. However as far as pricing goes its spot on. Seamaster's fit and finish is a level above Blackbay especially on the movement in my opinion. Date function, and material wise, seamster Ceramic dial and bezel with white enamel vs aluminium insert. These justify the 35% price above BB metas edtion to me, how is it double the price of the BB? What I can't comprehand is that you can buy a Seamaster 300M + a BB58 for less than the price of a Sub date... yet I have to admit I own a Sub though 😂

I am an admitted Omega fan boy. With that said I do not disagree with any point. Great video. While agree that the SMP prices are out of hand they do not compare the how out of hand the Aquaterra prices are. A base SMP on a bracelet is $5,900 USD. A base Aquaterra is $6,300 USD! They have the same movement and the SMP has more water resistance, a dive bezel, a more complex bracelet and a (nearly useless) He valve. Why is the Aquaterra so expensive? While there are not perfect Seamaster, I would argue that the "most" perfect Seamaster 300M is the SMP 2254.50. I am biased because that is my Seamaster. It has a smaller and thinner case with a tapering Speedy style bracelet. It has a subtle wave pattern that almost disappears if you are not looking for it and has the sword hands (which are superior in my opinion) harkening back to the original MOD Seamaster 300.

I choice it because all the technical features it offers, and then chose a dial that spoke to my liking. I am around a lot of electronics most of my day, my attire adjusts from casual, sport to dress and this fits each style easy. the "HE" valve actually blends in to point you don't notice it the longer you wear it. so, in my opinion the complaints on it being there are personal OCD preferences. and I'm OCD when it comes to lots of my life surroundings and belongings 😅 I own several nice watches and must admit my second favorite to my omega SMP is Ball Engineer III Dreamer blue dial on 904L steel. you can't be that lume 😅

Tried on a Tudor BB 58 once and wondered why it didn’t have a date and why the blue was so muted. Tried on the Pelagos and wondered how a titanium watch could feel so hefty. Tried on a standard BB and wondered how long it would take for the Night King to breach the slabby sides. Tried on a Submariner and instead bought a GMT Master II.
