I always wondered about this phenomenon! I’ve always called it a “memory smell” like there’s this very particular smell, a fragrance, and I can always tell it’s this Avon perfume cuz my grandma used to wear it (and then I eventually spot an old lady lol) Happens with other smells but sometimes idk or can’t remember why the smell makes me feel nostalgic or sad or sometimes happy.

Also, the boy who was walking in short steps was the Czar's son, IIRC. He had a condition which Rasputin claimed he could heal... but only if he could marry Anastasia, whom he lusted after. They found out that he was a fake or something, and was secretly out to destroy the royal line for power and control of the country (govt vs religion sort of thing). And actually the royal family wasn't all that great. They were living lavishly while their people starved, thus the revolution started.

Her voice is just so majestic! Even if some people don't like this movie, they will adore the songs.

@edo0girl good question 😄 one of the theories (it might not be entirely acutare though) - in old Slavonic language Vladimir was Volodimer (it is still Volodymyr in Ukrainian) hence the short form Volodia. Earlier (I dunno exactly how long ago) it became popular to make short name forms by repeating syllables (usually the first syllable, but not always), but ending the name with /a/ or /ia, 'a/ sounds (you can see the same ending in Volodia). Hence Vova😄 Other examples of the same short names formation - Natalia can be called Nana, Larisa is sometimes called L'al'a, Al'ona can be called L'ol'a. Georgiy (Russian version of George) is sometimes called Goga. However, people use these types of short name forms less and less. In fact, Vova is the only one, as far as I'm aware, that actually stuck.

Even darker, they were brought to Yekaterinburg and killed in a cellar. Put against a wall and shot by soldiers, the children did not die immediately, so the soldiers had to stab them to death eventually. Ive visited that cellar because they built a church on top for people to visit. It’s such an emotional place to walk around in.

@Cee3 pOh Both Anastasia and Hunchback I feel suffer from a sense of unevenness. In Hunchback, the gargoyles, especially George Costanza gargoyle, really stick out like a sore thumb against the darker tone of literally everything else. With Anastasia, when I watched it a little over a month ago, Rasputin as a villain almost seemed unnecessary to the plot. If you were to take out the over-the-top Rasputin and his magic and all that, you would have a better film. Also, it never sat right with me that they made the villain an historical figure in a way that was very out of place. I mean, it seems like they tried to take the more serious route with the storming of the palace, for example, so I don't see why they made Rasputin, who himself was dead a year before the Romanov's died, an undead magician. Oh well sorry for the rant.😂

That's amazing. My boyfriend is Russian and his family actually left in 1992 after the Soviet collapsed. I'm so glad his family were able to start a new life in my country. The funny thing is his name is Dmitri and when we first met I said "oh your name is Dmitri? Just like in Anastasia" 😂 this movie was such a big part of my childhood

@@erinnadia0409 I'm glad his family was finally able to get out! I worked with a Dmitri for a while. But he wasn't a particularly nice person, unfortunately. Bot mean or anything. Just socially inept, made disparaging comments a lot, and was a bit of a chauvinist (and I'm not the type to be easily offended, but perpetually comparing me to his 5 ex-wives got old fast).

I grew up with this film, and literally didn't know it existed until i saw the original. It was also why never occurred to me, the reason that Anya was crying when Dimitri woke her up. But having the scene in made so much more sense. She experienced a nightmare before waking up, and that would have been terrifying.

I remember watch this as a kid, thai ver. of this movie didnt cut demon scene out. I love this movie so much, still can sing all songs.

They made a toy music box like the one in the movie and I had it. It also played 'Once Upon a December'. I'm 32 now and still mad I don't have it anymore lol

We can't treat this movie as historically accurate. Nobody knew what happened for sure, so what was done was take advantage of a legend to make an entertaining movie. We know the sad truth of it all in the present, but it doesn't make the movie any less epic.

I don't understand how someone can call this relationship "almost believable" and then they bring up Aladdin and Jasmine like that was believable in any way shape or form LOL Aladdin is literally a movie about a deadbeat stalker getting the girl even after he lies to her about every aspect of his life, even his own name. If Aladdin's plot were to be put into a movie today it would be a horror movie with Aladdin as some mouth breather still living in his parents basement, Jasmine would be the sweet girl next door, and the Dark Web would be the only Genie he needs.

Just rewatch Tangled and Anastasia back to back. I realize how similar Eugene-Rapunzel and Dimitri-Anya! But for me I still like Dimitri-Anya better because of the realness in their relationship

Me too! I legit think it's just so wholesome and pure. It's nice to see a guy enjoy and get emotional over not only an animated movie, but one that centers around found family and romance. I'm finding a number of male centric reactors that are like this on KZfaq, and it's so great.

My favorite reaction channel as well. Seeing his expressions is so awesome, though I kinda feel bad for him for missing so many of these epic movies and not having them as childhood memories.

I can't say I am surprised, since there are several historians that argue that Rasputins close relationship with the Tzar and his family was a large part of the reason for why the country turned against the imperial rulers. There are of course several historians that claim the exact oposite too. But going with the theory that Rasputin indirectly caused fall of the Tzar I can see how a movie studio could turn that into Rasputin wishing for their demise, and using his magic (which of course was more "smoke and mirrors" in reality) to achive that. And while a lot about Rasputins life is hear say he was probably not the greatest man, even though the imperial family seemed to believe that he was. The church wasn't impressed with him, a bishop even launched an inquest into his activities, accusing him of spreading false doctrines. It didn't help that Rasputin was accused of accepting bribes and sexual favors as well as raping several of his female followers. He even was suspected of using his influence over the tsar in a political manner (which is part of the reason he was murdered) and was rumored to be having an affair with the tsarina. But I do love the nod to real life in the begining of this movie, where Rasputin "dies" by falling through the ice. Because Rasputins body was actually thrown into a river and found frozen under the ice after he was murdered. Sorry, I'm done ranting now 😂

Awesome Matt I love The Swan Princess. “What else is there?” Shook me to my core, and growing up and while dating I’d be reminded of it. The first time as a kid I really thought about how some people only look at/ care about the surface level. Also, Black Cauldron’s villain is a bit… lacking for me personally (Rasputin works because he’s super evil but he’s sort of having fun in a way, enjoying hatching the plans, but the Black Cauldron’s is just evil, no fun, so it’s… not as interesting), but my fiancé and I still end up talking like Gerghie on and off for months after we watch it. 😂 I am firmly convinced Gollum in Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings adaptation is strongly inspired by him. 🤣

I'm personally more intrigued by myths and legends but this movie got me really interested in the events surrounding Rasputins murder, the revolution and the murder of the imperial family. Possibly because there is so many different versions of what happened and how it happened that it's almost like a myth... There are some things we might never get all the facts about. As I got oldet one of the rumors in particular stuck with me and disgusted me. Rasputins alleged affair with the tsarina AND rumours of him getting s*xual favours from the tzars daughters Olga and Tatyana. So I can definitely agree on the super creepy part!
