They actually didn’t intend to make sequels for this movie. The car flying at the end was a joke. But then everyone loved it and basically demanded a sequel. The director said if sequels were planned they wouldn’t have ended it the way they did with Jennifer in the car

Butterfly Effect: -Lorraine never nursed George back to health, and so they didn't fall in love then, with Lorraine viewing him as a helpless little goof who needed to be cared for. Instead, Lorraine was rescued by George when Biff was sexually assaulting her, leading to her seeing him as a big strong heroic man who could care for her and thus never doubting their marriage in the slightest, which led to her never having to turn to alcohol to cope with her doubts and the reduction of half the strain on their marriage. -George stood up to Biff, and knocked him cold. Which gave him confidence, and as a result he decided, to hell with it, he stood up to Biff, he got Lorraine, he could do ANYTHING if he just went for it. So he attempted to publish his sci-fi stories, succeeded, and became a very successful sci-fi author. This put them in a completely different, much more secure and beyond just comfortable financial situation and reduced the OTHER half of the major strain on their marriage, making their marriage just about strain-free and VERY VERY affectionate and active. -Biff, when he was coldclocked by George, lost his confidence and was never able to regain it, let alone return to bullying George. Because George wasn't doing his work for him, he flunked out of school and never graduated, and instead of being a moderately successful business manager (with George doing his work for him still), he wound up barely keeping a struggling car detailing business afloat instead... ironically with George as his most regular customer. -Doc Brown was told by Marty that his father had never stood up to Biff before, and Doc realized that, despite their best efforts, the timeline had already been altered. As a result, he decided 'to hell with it, things are already changed, what could it hurt?' and taped Marty's letter back together to read it, resulting in him having the foreknowledge that the Libyans would come back and kill him, leading him to prepare by buying personal armor and wearing it that night. Additionally, it's implied that the greasy rag and paper bundle fire Doc and Marty put out together was the same fire that burned down Doc's family estate and greatly reduced his fortune, and that never happened as a result. -Twin Pines Mall is now, because Marty ran over one of the eponymous pines in the past, Lone Pine Mall. It's the first hint we get that Marty's present is now extremely different because of his actions in the past and it's easily missed if you're not watching carefully.

I watched this movie when I was 10 years old. As an adult I got a degree in physics. There are certain hypotheses regarding time travel that require what would be termed “negative energy”. I speculate that someone involved in the production of this movie knew that, and that this is why the Delorean is freezing cold after time travel. I have never heard anyone confirm or even ask about that though.

This movie has everything I love about time-travel. Maybe it doesn't make sense 100% of the time, but it's just so fun! There's the meeting-your-parents-young trope, all the little things that add up together later (like the lightning and the bully and the dance), and of course the Doc is such an enjoyable character. This movie will never get too old.

There's always going to be these "classic" movies from the 80s and 90s that get referenced to the point where you absolutely have to watch the original. Back of the Future is one of them. It took me FOREVER to finally see the trilogy, and I have no regrets. And after learning a little behind the scenes of it, I can appreciate it, especially when Michael J. Fox was working almost 20 hours a day for MONTHS to film the movie and his sitcom Family Ties at the same time. What a trooper!

They had originally shot the movie with another actor playing the role of Marty McFly. His name was Eric Stoltz. they had done most of the movie. Lorriane's and George's homes were on the same street in real life. While filming on that street, another movie was being filmed right down the block called Teen Wolf starring Michael J Fox. This same street was used in part 2 for Biff's 1995 house. Fox at one point walked over to see the filming and was told what the movie was about and he stated he wished he was doing that movie. After Teen wolf wrapped production, Fox was asked to take over the role of Marty. This was because Eric Stoltz just didn't quite work well with the cast and crew. turned out he wasn't the right guy for the role so they had to recast. Supposedly only one scene remains where you can see the back of Stoltz head. It's where Marty tricks Biff into looking behind him. Fox had to balance filming the show Family Ties and BTTF. He barely got any sleep. Supposedly he would sleep while traveling from the tv show to the movie set.

Universal Pictures head Sid Sheinberg didn't have confidence in the film during production and used to send memos to Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale with suggestions. Apparently, he didn't like the original title, saying no one would see a movie with the word "future" in the title. In one memo he told them to change the title to Spaceman From Pluto to play into the movie's joke of Marty-as-an-alien. Rob and Bob asked executive producer Steven Spielberg for help, and he promptly sent a memo back to Sheinberg : "Hi Sid, thanks for your most humorous memo, we all got a big laugh out of it, keep ‘em coming." Sheinberg didn't push the title change after that.

I really love that people still discover this movie. I always answer the question about my favorite movie with this franchise because they are inseperable for me. I had seen only pieces over the years when I was a kid because it kept airing like every year during the festive season and only when I was a teenager I finally saw them one by one. And then it took me years to take in all the details. Many people for example completely ignore the news broadcast and the plutonium box in the first scene. But if you rewatch the movie now you might want to pay attention to the pictures and the framed news article, too. One of the commonly known easter eggs is in the name of the mall: when Marty finally gets back to the mall the name is Lone Pine Mall. Remember him running over one of Peabody's twin pines? But the one that troubled me for years is the character Red: When Marty reenters 1985 he notes the bum and says something along the lines of "good to see you Red". I could not figure out where the name came from and always guessed there was a deleted scene with his name mentioned. Until I realied that 1955 mayor Red Thomas campaigned for reelection. Well even after that I learned that Bob Gale did not intent for those two characters to be the same. Michael J. Fox ad-libbed the name drawing the connection between the two.

The first time jump from Marty was accidental, he never intended to jump to 1955.

I had so much fun building the Lego set of the DeLorean, released on April 1st and i surprisingly still got it that month even though i didn't get my order in until almost noon that day but i didn't even open it until May since i was trying to hold out to my birthday at the end of the month. So great that you can make it into any of the three versions from the trilogy.

I have always thought that when Doc had to use the fire extinguisher to put out the fire in the garage (toy car test) that when he need it, when the house was on fire later, the the unit was empty because of forgetting to get it recharged. ( See the newspaper on the wall at the beginning)

Not really. It's implied that Doc burned his own house down to collect the insurance money to further fund his inventions and experiments like the DeLorean. Young Doc in 1955 exclaims "I finally invent something that works!" He clearly has a history (or will have a history) of failed inventions that don't work. He probably doesn't make much money at all as an inventor, so in order to build his greatest invention, he resorts to insurance fraud to pay for it.

Michael J Fox was initially not cast in the film as he was already doing the show ‘Family Ties’ which was one of the biggest shows of the 1980s probably the second most watched show after Cheers They asked the show runner of Family Ties (Gary David Goldberg) and he didn’t want to lose his big star from his show so he didn’t tell Michael J Fox because he felt bad about denying him a job in a Steven Spielberg produced time travel film So the film makers hired the actor Eric Stoltz however wasn’t working because he took the role too seriously and had everyone call him Marty off camera too So when he was fired they went to Michael J Fox who was coming off of Teen Wolf which wasn’t a great success but when the show runner of Family Ties was asked again he allowed Fox to do the role so long as he was still able to do the show so Fox ended up working on Family Ties during the day and Back to the Future during the night getting about 3 hours sleep in the back of a car while being driven from each set They ended having to reshoot all the scenes with Marty that had already been

If you want to watch a time travel movie that’s somewhat quirky, because it doesn’t use a time machine, watch Somewhere in Time with Christopher Reeve. However, to get the full effect, you have to watch the intro a 2nd time.

Great reaction. Other time travel you should check out? *The Time Machine (1960)* is a true classic which still holds up today, there is *The Philadelphia Experiment (1984)* which is also very good, *The Terminator (1984)* is a real classic, *Flight of the Navigator (1986)* is another eighties movie which uses time travel, *Terminator 2: Judgement Day (1991)* is the sequel to The Terminator, *12 Monkeys (1995)* is a personal favourite of mine and there is also *Looper (2012)* which is a more recent film, but still pretty awesome, and a good film to watch after 12 Monkeys as they both star Bruce Willis.
