I think the “spider leg” sound is the filmer dragging his foot to slow down, but they added some reverb and a really fast sort of phaser to it. I wish more videos payed this much attention to sound design. So effective. Great breakdown, man!

How he managed to turn a 4 min part into a 20 min vid still baffles me

I think that on the firecracker grind thing its more like a double slappy, but it’s not like two slappys, it actually is just one slappy slapping 2 curbs at the same time. So ben does one slappy, but two ledges get slapped, therefore proving that skateboarding is the ultimate challenge.

Also as I’ve rewatched this video I’ve noticed in a lot of the clips there’s like little to no people throughout the video walking in the streets of New York. At most there are cars but a lot of them aren’t even moving/are stuck in traffic. It’s like Ben skating in an abandoned New York up until the ender where we do see someone for once and he’s in the way of his end clip

Yea i think the title might be a play on Dill’s and FA’s philosophy on street vs competition skating. I think they’re more passionate/impressed by street skating as opposed to complicated tricks on the most ideal surfaces. So to them Ben’s skating is like watching a “triple backflip”

What I’ve also noticed is that the sounds of some of the tricks are sampled into the music. The tricks where he launches his board onto the ledge and hops back on it is one example; the metal clang reverberates in the audio and fades into the rest of the track post trick.

I've been getting back into skating this past year (skated from 5th grade up until about freshman year of college, then took about a decade long break) and wouldn't have known about FA/Hockey without this channel. Last week a guy in a local skateboarding group on facebook posted that he had like 25 used decks for sale, and I found a *Hardly* used 8.5" Hockey deck from a 2017 drop that he offered to sell to me for $20. Since it's impossible to find their decks for under like $75, I tossed him another $10 just to make it a lil more fair (there was some minor blemishes and a ding on the nose that could soon lead to splitting of the plys). When I get some 8.5 trucks I plan to experiment and see if the increase of surface area will help me learn tre flips, I currently skate 8 inch decks

Yo, that weird underflip ender is a callback to his “Hockey II” ender, same trick, but he kick flips out, same pan over his face and flips off the camera the exact same.. super fucking cool IMO

There is an important note to add about the ender in this video. In Hockey II he landed 5050 kickflip on the same rail right as someone walked across the camera. Ben then proceeds to look at the camera, but this time, almost as though he expected it to happen again.

In the hockey 2 vid ben did a 5050 kickflip as his ender (i think) and in this video he did the 5050 and that weird half flip out at the same spot. If you compare the two clips theyre pretty similar
