Just saw him in Las Vegas a couple of months ago, 3rd row - center from stage and I am telling you, 67 is the new 45 !! ... He STILL moves and sounds almost identical to back in the 80's. He is soooooooooooo engaging with the audience. It was a great time to see him live !!

So, I must thank you for reawakening my love for Billy Idol. My best friend and I bonded over him in 7th grade (I'm 50 now) as two black girls from an area in Alabama who knew NOTHING about Billy. Whenever you do another Billy block, please include Flesh for Fantasy. It's a jam! In fact, I'm headed to watch it now.

What was great about Billy is he managed to keep his early punk days sound but he made it more polished & commercial for much wider audience. His videos also made him one of MTVs earliest superstars.

Fun fact. Perri Lister was his girlfriend, she is in “white wedding” and “eyes without a face” and Duran Duran .”The Chauffeur “ she was a dancer in so many videos. You’ll definitely need a part 2. With “Flesh for Fantasy” (you will love the instrumentation)“Hot in the city” “ To be a lover” and “Catch my fall”.

He just got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He was in The Wedding Singer plus check out Hot in the City and haf Cradle of Love. He was supposed to play the evil Terminator in T2:Judgement Day but got into a motorcycle accident. The lyrics to Eyes without a Face(Les Yeux Sans Visage) translate to that from the French. It is also an early French thriller horror film in b/w about a face damaged girl and her doctor father who tries to get her face back by doing face surgeries on different female victims and transplanting them on her.

I love Billy Idol. My mother LOVED Billy Idol. She would go on and on about how sexy he was. As a kid I didn’t get it. But now as a full grown woman, oh I get it now. BTW all the videos in the early ‘80s were weird. No one knew what was going on. The directors at the time were experimenting and figuring things out. Music videos were so new back then. Weird and strange were the norm. Love your videos. The ‘80s stuff you do just takes me back to my childhood. ❤

You should checkout his song Catch My Fall. It's the only Billy Idol song I have on my playlist, it has such a good bassline. I remember as a kid back then being a little traumatized by that bleeding finger in that wedding scene. That's probably when I thought I'll never ever get married.😂

Fun reactions! One fun perk of "Dancing With Myself" was that when the DJ played it at a dance or a club, you could rush the dance floor solo to dance (pogo up and down) and not feel so weird about it. 🙂

These are all great songs. Don't Need a Gun is a little less well known but I love it so much. So moody and atmospheric. He has a huge catalogue & it goes deep. Yes, he's got a good variety of sounds and is super talented. The guitarist, Steve Stevens, has been his partner in the band for decades and they're still kicking ass and touring even now.

You need to watch the video for Catch My Fall! 😄 And I'm very glad to hear someone react to Don't Need a Gun. One of my favourites but very underrated.

He doesnt always "scream" wich many people think,especially after hearing Rebel Yell lol. My mom only listened to some limited amount of rock,but Billy Idol was someone she went on to buy albums from,and me knowing how much it took for her to actually buy rock music,hey Billy did one unique and powerful thing there. She wasnt against rock music,in most cases she steered clear of it because it got too noisy/heavy. She needed rhythm in her rock music,then she was fine with it. Im sure i told you already about her watching an old interview with Billy,where he admitted in actually being a very shy young man,especially in his very start of his career, Might have been some stage fear there as well,but as soon as the band started playing the tracks,he just became someone else,he said. I think theese videos proves what i have said all along,you cant tell at all by seeing him let loose. He can go from being "hurt,angry" looking in Eyes Without A Face to being all out joyfull and care free in "Dancing With Myself". Shock To The System is a good recommendation,the video might give you some serious,rough Terminator (the movie franchise) vibes,not gonna lie,the actual music video might throw you off abit at times,BUT im sure you will enjoy the very upbeat song. It comes from his album called Cyberpunk. Totally different from that song again is the "flirty" and "seductive": Cradle Of Love. And to test your ability to not lose focus completely,lets throw in Hot In The City as the third and final suggestion and recommendation lol.

Remember that in the 80s music videos were the new frontier. Commercial directors and film students were getting big budgets and total creative license to just push the creative boundaries. A lot of it was very conceptual and/or performance art, kind of abstract or focusing not on narrative but visuals and unusual camera use etc. Yeah, some of them could get 'weird' but they just blew our minds when we watched all this on MTV. There is no creativity like it now, everything is the same and really pretty bland/boring in comparison.
