Back when UP was first released, we had a free movie day because we had a substitute that day. She tried her best and the kids weren’t too hard on her but she and the main teacher decided it would be best to watch a movie for most of the day. She was so excited and brought in UP because she hadn’t seen it and it was pretty new so we were all excited to not have to watch the old movies the school had for like the sixth time. Long story short: she really should have vetted the movie because she had to send me to the faculty room to go get tissues for her and all of the other kids including me because we were inconsolable and I was the only one who volunteered to go lmao

My parents never explained fully why she's crying. They just told me that she can't have children. Though technically true, I was still confused because it made it sound like they made a baby room before they get pregnant, had tests to see if they can have children, and is then told that they can't and wasted their time buying all these things for a baby they haven't even made yet. I learned about miscarriages as an adult but still thought that she's crying because the doctor told her she can't have kids. More years passed and recently my cousin got pregnant but had a misscarage. They got some stuff for the baby already. I ended up thinking about UP and realized that my parents just dont want me to know about what it is.

It’s just human, and we should all feel free to be human. :) Plus, I’ve always thought there’s something wonderful and powerful about letting yourself feel stories deeply. I think if you are an adult and you do not, at least, tear up during this movie, you either have not had serious loss in your life or you have a strong hold on physically showing your emotions. I can relate to not crying as a kid, because I was just in complete shock at Ellie's death. But then it just hits different now with my grandpa passing.

Fun fact, it's been proven that it is possible to lift a house with ballons, in fact, the same house the movie based on, although heavy as hell, with enough ballons (more like a shit load of them) filled with a special kind of air, you can lift the house just like the movie, the only difference would be the amount of ballons beaing a lot bigger and the ballons themselves being a lot larger.

I really loved this movie when it came out! I really love Kevin's scene with Carl when she's mimicking everything he does. Although, that *one scene* before that--when Carl made Kevin mad--made her look terrifying. Muntz was an alright villain and there was a lot of good jokes in this. I know people think this certain villain death is satisfying but I just think it's horrifying. His death literally looks like what dreaming of a sudden fall and jump awake feels. His heart probably jumped when he started falling but what happened during the fall? It's so final. No screaming, just falling. That's terrible! A lot of villain deaths are just "Yikes!", you know? Anyway, I'm gonna go continue catching up with your vids!

Fun fact, Pixar actually did the math to see how many balloons it would take to lift the house (because Pixar xD), and it was around 23.5 million. However, they decided not to go through with the exact amount and instead showed around 20,600 because it would be so many the shots of the house floating would be so disproportionate.

When he said he didn't cry watching it as a kid I feel like adults/ teens cry more at this movie than children because kids can't fully grasp it yet. I saw this movie as a kid when it came out in theaters and since the miscarriage was only implied, I didn't even realize that was what happened and I didn't know what a miscarriage was. I knew they wanted children, I just thought they couldn't get pregnant. I understood that Ellie was gone and I felt really sad, but I don't think the full weight of the loss hit me because I just didn't have enough experience to understand. When I rewatched it in high school, I freaking sobbed because I understood that and so much more. Especially the scene where he opens the adventure book and sees that she had filled it with their memories.

This movie came out when I was in high school, and I remember I watched it for the first time in my school's library. I was the most advanced in my English class (I'm from Mexico), so the teacher sent me to the library to watch a movie without subtitles and answer a quiz afterwards. So there I was, alone in the library, in front of a TV with headphones and crying my eyes out. I'll never forget that day.

Yes lifting a house with balloons is possible but I think you need like 100,000 balloons for it to lift up, and they only animated like 10,000 balloons in the movie

I consider myself a monster for not crying during this movie. I'm just not an emotional person.

I never noticed before, but rewatching your video (you've become a bit of a comfort KZfaqr to me) I noticed that he bought an airplane ticket, and when I looked closer, the ticket says Venezuela. Given the whole movie, it's likely that he bought the ticket to take Ellie to Angel Falls, in Venezuela, but she died before they could go together. To me that makes it so much more heartbreaking, because they were so close, so damn close, he had the ticket and everything, but he was too late...

You cried from watching the movie. Valid. I cried from watching the short clips of you watching the movie. Also valid.

Thing is, ups opening hits different when you have experienced the loss of a loved one as you can both empathize and sympathies with the character as you have been through the experience. Most children don't experience death until they are above the age of ten so children don't really understand the full weight of that beautiful scene.

I hate how I didn't realize he put a bunch of balloons on his house because he used to work as a balloon seller until today.
