"He was engaged and she was pregnant" was a big fat lie. LORELAI DIDNT SLEEP WITH A GUY WITH A PREGNANT FIANCE She slept with him because he broke up with sherry but the next morning he gets a call from sherry telling him she's pregnant so he decides to "do the right thing" and marry her for the sake of the baby. THEY WEREN'T ENGAGED AND NO ONE KNEW ABOUT THE PREGNANCY UNTIL AFTER LORELAI SLEPT WITH HIM. The fact that Rory twisted the facts of a heartbreaking moment in her moms history to make her mom into a homewrecker so she doesn't feel as bad about actually being a homewrecker makes this the worst thing I've seen Rory do. Her being the other woman is really bad but somehow her weaponizing someone else's painful memory for her own purposes feels way worse to me.

Butttt Chris and Sherry weren’t officially broken up. He said that they agreed to take time to think about their relationship and HE said that he’s thinking about “getting a new apartment.” We have no idea what sherry is thinking until the baby shower episode where she tells Lorelai that she was convinced Chris was going to leave her until he came back from Sookie’s wedding, and thus credited Lorelai for sending him back to her. Even though that credit was misplaced, there was no actual breakup on either side until Sherry left for France in season…5? BUT I do agree that Rory I crossing the line in weaponizing this because Dean is 1. MARRIED and 2. Lindsay is just a 100% victim and wronged in this and 3. Omg you can’t pretend you own a guy because you dated him when you were 16

If you want to be really confused, watch the first few episodes of Season 1. Rory starts off 16, becomes 15, then turns 16 again. Richard's mother is dead but magically comes back to life. Lane starts off with 2 parents, the dad is never seen, stops being mentioned altogether, then materializes in person in the revival. And Kirk isn't really Kirk. There are so many more, but that's part of the fun of re-watching episodes that were never intended to be watched as many times as us Gilmore Girls fanatics have. To feel like Lorelai for the day, read this paragraph out loud as fast as possible.

I’m the fan who has to justify everything! They said Rory was 16 before her birthday because she was almost sixteen- closer to 16 than 15. People round up. It happens. They spoke about Richard’s mother as though she was dead because she had been in England so long that she was “gone.” They never really said she was dead, they just referred to her in the past tense. To me, it’s “when she lived here,” not “when she was alive.” Kirk constantly has different jobs and reinvents himself. That scene with Patty seemed like she was going along with a bit he was doing. I think he even used a different name at one point, but that’s not all that out of character for Kirk.

The reason we all hate the 2016 roughly a decade later revival is Rory doesn't seem to have learned from her mistakes lol. And Dean does seem to get his happy ending finally as a sidenote at the end of that revival but in season 5 he does indeed end up alone just like you hoped. And written off the show around when he got the Supernatural gig ;)

@@theroadletstravel Well, the writers such a terrible character for her because they concluded that Rory is too perfect. That's why they added a lot of flaws. I think Rory is bound to be what she is. The reason why I think that Rory doesn't learn from her mistakes is because she doesn't realize her mistakes. Her mom almost always sides her and doesn't hold her enough accountability. Remember the ballerina that she wrote about that ruined the ballerina's career? Rory just brushed it off like it was nothing and maybe, she felt a little remorse but that's it. Paris stated that studies show that valedictorians don't achieve as much. Also, remember when Stars Hollow keeps blaming Jess for everything when in fact, Rory was involved too. She keeps saying that it's her fault too but the town never believed it. She doesn't realize her mistakes until someone point it out. When she wrote about rich kids (I kind of forgot what she wrote about) but it was mean and it wasn't until Logan called her out of it does she realized her mistakes. I can name a few examples here and there. Maybe she does realize her mistakes but she doesn't learn because her environment tolerates these mistakes. Thanks for reading this essay, it's hard to explain but basically, I think she is meant to be what she is now because the people surrounding her doesn't give her enough accountability to own up her mistakes.

@@bellavender75 omg 1000%! ive always thought about that valedictorian fact Paris shared. and the way she didnt take ownership of cheating with dean and saying "he was my bf first" was so entitled. idk..i did think rory had a lot of potential and wanted to see her be successful. i agree with all your comments, but i still wanted her to turn it around. i do think they coddle her but at least lorelei held her accountable when she dropped out, and called her out with cheating with dean and logan. I can talk gilmore girls forever! haha

@@evelynrodriguez4040 I was about to state that as one of the examples of Rory Gilmore not realizing her mistakes. She thought that it was perfectly okay to just have a relationship with him because "he was my boyfriend first" like when I first heard that, I was like is she even serious? Lorelai knows it is wrong but she still tolerates Rory's mistakes and even lets Rory and Dean have a double date with her and Luke. Yes, while Lorelai held Rory accountable for dropping out, I don't think silent treatment is the best way to treat Rory at all. I do found myself rooting for her at times and I want her to the best but that's the problem. People are expecting that her best self is her normal self, that's why a lot of people hate her when she acts different or out of character when in fact humans have a lot of out of character moments. One of my theory about why people hate Rory Gilmore is she represents real life about what happen to burn out gifted kids who always knew what they want in life until they don't and people don't want to see real life in entertainment because it's suppose to be their escape in real life. I just realize that I can talk about Gilmore Girls all the time too. Another point is that the only reason Rory was able to graduate because Jess called her out of it. He said "this isn't you, Rory" and that's one of the reasons why I'm team Jess. Also while Lorelai held Rory accountable with Logan, I don't think that's enough at all but I guess it all worked out since their relationship is pretty much over. Lorelai's "bestfriend first, mom second" is one of the reasons why I don't think Lorelai had good parenting. It should be mom first because she is a parent after all. Anyway, Rory Gilmore is one of my academic inspirations and it doesn't sit right at me how a lot of people hate her for not reaching her potential and making a lot of mistakes when it is part of being a normal human being. But I do admit that there's a lot of times where I do question if she even meant to be likable though.

Yeah I definitely don't think it was Lorelai's parenting. Lorelai was for sure a little too much friends with Rory instead of just her parent. But she was never not her parent. What ruined Rory was immense privilege dropping into her lap in her teen years after being treated as a super special golden child in all the time leading up to that. She had it in her head that she deserved whatever she wanted. It's unfortunate (though realistic) that in the revival season, she still hadn't unlearned that.

@@SophiaBas I think so. I know Rory loves her grandparents, even as she finds them frustrating, and they love her too. But there's no doubt that access to that kind of privilege at that particular time in her life helped engender a spoiled mentality. I really think a person like Rory would have turned out a little more humble and down-to-earth if she had had to continue on through regular school and try to make it on her own to Harvard (or whatever college she wound up attending) with scholarships and student debt. If she had had to struggle more, she would be better equipped to deal with setbacks. This is a pretty common experience for academically gifted kids in general when they first face difficulty in school, but it's all the more amplified when you consider that, starting at age 15, she never had to even think about financial concerns.

Welcome to the reason a good majority of the fandom dislikes Rory😅 and it only gets worse in the revival. Also, what Rory says to Lorelai isn’t even accurate. Lorelai slept with Chris while he and Sherry were broken up. He found out she was pregnant and got engaged to her after.

I like the revival. It's a good portrayal of what can happen to strong career millennial women that chose their career of family. Now she's lonely, journalism jobs are drying up and real journalists are being replaced by younger gen Z. So now she has no career and no man. I do want to see a season 2 of the reboot with her pregnant.

When seeing the infamous clip on KZfaq, a lot of the comments kept defending Rory saying that she wasn't married to Lindsay (and owes her nothing) or that Lindsay was unlikeable anyway. It's frustrating because Rory does owe Lindsay the respect to NOT willing sleep with her husband. Besides, "How you get 'em is how you lose 'em". What made Rory think Dean'll be loyal to her?

So to clear up a few things for those who haven’t seen the show: 1. Yes, LuLu is Kirk’s very serious girlfriend. They end up together. She is perfect for him. 2. Yes, they really made us wait 4 seasons for Luke and Lorelai to get together, just for them to break up for a while and Lorelai marries someone else but it doesn’t last. Luke and Lorelai do eventually end up together at like the last episode of the series. 3. Jess was flakey but he was so good for Rory while he was there. 4. The guy singing is the town troubadour. He’s in several episodes and they even gave him his own episode where someone else tried to take his spot but they let this guy have it. 5. Kirk is the town crazy person. There’s no trying to get him to think sensibly lol. 6. Dean works in construction with Tom (who is seen as a contractor in several episodes). They took on working at the dragonfly inn (that Lorelai and Sooki just opened). That’s where he and Rory started getting close again. 7. The guy that blindsides Lorelai at the inn is Jason. The two dated for quite some time. Lorelai’s father was a business partner to Jason’s father (Floyd) until they phased him out so lorelai’s father (Richard) started his own company, where Jason approached him wanting to be his business partner because he wanted to basically shove it in his father’s face. Of course Richard thought it was the perfect way to get back at Floyd for pushing him out of the company he dedicated his entire career to. Jason and Lorelai began secretly dating. Jason’s father found out after hiring a PI to spy on him and this news came out when Jason’s father announced he would be suing Richard for taking all of their clients with him when he started his own company. To keep Floyd from going through with the lawsuit (along with anger from hiding their relationship) Richard went back into business with Floyd, leaving Jason with absolutely nothing. So Jason decided to sue Richard in retaliation. Of course Lorelai ended the relationship, stating that she couldn’t be with someone who is suing her family. 8. Lorelai didn’t sleep with Chris (Rory’s dad) while he was married or engaged. He had broken up with his girlfriend and wanted to get back together with Lorelai but Sherri (his girlfriend he’d just broken up with) called and told him she was pregnant. So he went back to her to be with his child because he wasn’t there for Rory growing up and really regretted it and didn’t want it to be that way with this child. So they got married.

I literally watched this last night! Jason and Richard left the company to start their own but Jason's dad threatened to sue so Richard went behind Jason's back and worked out a deal with the company he used to work for. Jason was left out in the cols with no clients and a ruined reputation. Jason insisted on suing Richard and Loreli broke up with him. Then she went to Liz's wedding with Luke. Dean swears his marriage with Lindsay is over but it very much isn't, especially on Lindsay's end. Luke had been reading a self help book titled "you deserve love" prior to the wedding and gave it to Jess. That's the interaction with Jess that Rory and Dean were arguing about earlier.

Lorelai should have said to Richard "I can't be in a family with someone who's suing my boyfriend". (instead of "I can't be in a relationship with someone who's suing my family") Jason was just a victim in the whole business deal. but, meta, it was just a way to get Luke and Lorelai together.

@@RilianSharpRichard wasnt suing Jason. Richard and jasons business was being sued by Jason's father. Richard was afraid he wouldn't survive the lawsuit so he makes a deal with jasons father so he'll drop the lawsuit. Richard started his own business after leaving Jason's dads company and to hurt his father jason left his dads company and took all of his clients from his dads company and gave them to Richards company in exchange for partnering with him so to get back at jason his father has Richard take all the clients in their shared business and take it back to his business where Richard will work leaving jason with nothing but a business with no clients. Its wrong but its poetic justice.

I just happened on this randomly. You have some of the driest funniest delivery. Some of the things that made me laugh the hardest were literally when you made tiny micro-reactions spliced with footage. jess bailed on rory once. donno why rory decided it was twice. it was once, when he was kicked out of his uncle's house and had to move across the country to live with his dad. he didn't tell rory because he was ashamed of failing high school, compared to rory being so successful and getting into yale. sucks but is understandable for an 18 year old facing being homeless.

At that point they were already emotionally engaged, they had an accident together, it was a traumatic experience and he just took off. They were already friends for sure. You can baile on a friend too. Be as it may, she obviously thought that he left her out in a cold and it hurt her feelings. You're trying to use Ross Geller "we were on a break" reasoning but it's just not working. Neither it did for Ross. They were emotionally engaged. At least as friends.

I really like this episode. That other guy, Jason, has some good moments in the show. He was a bunch of quarks that even Lorelai thought was weird, but they made it work for a little bit.

Both Rory and Dean genuinely drove me crazy in this episode, and the worst part is, Rory just keeps going downhill from there. Also, I don't know if you've watched it yet, but I definitely recommend the episode "A-Tisket, A-Tasket"! It's season 2 episode 13, and it's one of my favorites.

Funnily enough, Floyd Stiles was mentioned in the Bracebridge episode that you noticed this one paralleling. Richard, when telling Emily about quitting, mentions that Floyd looked stunned. Richard sends a few further episodes of S2 struggling with finding something to do that he's now retired... and not too long after decides to open his own small insurance company. It does well enough. Fast forward about a year and a half, Jason Stiles comes to Richard wanting to join his company as a partner, and brings new business with him. But Floyd gets angry that the two are working together, and uses a clause in Jason's contract at the original as cause to sue- the suit doesn't hold water, but Richard has tied up most of his and Emily's assets in his company, so fighting it would cost him a lot. And at the same dinner where this goes down (with Floyd outing Richard's financial secrets to Emily), Floyd also outs that his Private Investigator discovered Jason and Lorelai were dating, which leaves Richard and Emily betrayed and angry with Lorelai and Jason both. Richard screws Jason over, and goes back to Floyd's firm, so Jason decides to sue Richard, and while Lorelai understands that what Richard did to Jason was messed up, she "can't date someone who's suing [her] father". Meanwhile, it leaves Richard and Emily's relationship in shambles (which Lorelai and Rory discover, and are angry about Richard and Emily trying to hide in this episode), and they spend the beginning of S5 separated. This is why Richard had a valet and was not at Emily's "rustic" dinner with Luke. And their reconnection leads to the Wedding Bell Blues episode others have recommended, which is in fact when Emily was in "cahoots" with Christopher as mentioned in the Friday Night Fights episode.

Yeah...Rory's lucky Lorelai's no Madea or Thelma Harper; Rory AND Dean would've gotten it and then made to apologize to Lindsay by morning. Side note but poor Lindsay. Yeah fans don't like her for wanting to be a traditional house wife but (unlike Dean) she was TRYING to make things work. And that scene where Dean scolds her for just answering the phone, you just wanna give her a hug.

and remember her close to tears at the butcher trying to figure out how to make the roast he likes? she was bending over backwards for that guy and played into HIS fantasy of the wifey to make him happy and he still went and cheated. She didnt actually do anything we have ever seen to make us believe she was ever horrible or not making an effort with him

This is one of my favourite episodes, up until Rory and Dean fuck up their lives. Luke & Lorelai, Luke & Jason, Kirk & Lulu, Emily & Richard. Kirk's "dream" (The Kiss). Patti & Babette. It's one of the funniest, in the Top 10. Liz & TJ's wedding, The Cat Funeral, The Yearling, and the We've Got Magic to Do, etc.
