Adelie penguins (the tiny ones mumble finds after being chased by the leopard seal) are regarded as one of the most fiesty penguin species, willing to face off with much bigger animals, which explains a lot about their personalities in the movie

The scene with the orcas is pretty accurate. Orcas have been observed to 'play' with their prey by throwing them repeatedly into the air and also several together purposefully create a bow wave that overturns any floating sanctuary their prey may have found. This is also a learned behaviour and young have been seen to watch the adults to learn the techniques. Orcas also regularly Beech themselves to catch prey that becomes slow.and cumbersome as soon they get to land, ie seals and penguins.

That movie Orca made me love them even more, I saw it when I was very little and what stuck with me the most was how horrible the humans were with the female and fetus and that is what caused him to take revenge on the humans, I think just the fact that he cared so very much for her and the unborn calf and that he went to those lengths to avenge them was what stuck with me and made me fall in love with Orcas.

This, in my opinion, is one of the most interesting jukebox musicals I've ever seen. Mostly because the singing and the songs, while not original, are a major plot point in the story. With each one representing the heart and soul of it's respective penguin. This was a favorite of mine as a kid!

The way Mumble is presented as being 'othered' by everyone just because he thinks and presents his feelings differently than everyone else really resonates with me due to my autism. I can't tell you how many times I've been in the same situations emotionally as him just because I process things differently, or how many times people like his mother try to express sympathy about it even though I feel fine. That is the one reason why they are called Killer Whales, because of their predatory behaviour and fact that they are the only dolphin family that eat such large prey, BUT never have there been incidents that I am aware of, of humans being injured or attacked by them and that I think is where the gentleness comes in because they are actually not a threat to humans in general. The incidents that occured in captivity had reasons and I still LOVE LOVE LOVE these animals!

Orca whales play with their food before they eat them.. its just what they do. For the Emperors, they all have one song, their "heartsong", that has a fated connection to another penguins heartsong. Mumble's dancing represents his heartsong because he can't sinf.. And his dance actually did fit Gloria's heartsong, which is why Gloria's heartsong is "Boogie Wonderland". During that dance scene, she discovered Mumble was her mate by matching her heartsong to his dancing. (Which is equivalent to finding the song match) and helped her complete her own song. He just danced instead of sang, but his song matched hers. They actually brought in actual tap dancers to perform the choreography when studying the animations for Mumbles dancing. This movie was also to raise awareness of littering and humans over fishing causing negative impacts to the penguins' environment. Also, yes, Robin Williams is both Lovelace and Ramon.

Fun fact: Originally, when Mumble jumps down the cliff to follow the humans, he was gonna lose his down feathers meaning he would have the same coloration as the adults. It would show that he had matured, but the people working on the film removed that concept. But in the novelization, it shows that he did lose his down feathers. I remember being particularly annoyed at when Mumble drove Gloria away 'for her own good', because it was just lazy writing. It was easier to eliminate her as a character for the following arc rather than let her stay on screen, go through the aliens arc, and develop the Mumble and Gloria romance at the same time. It just seems like so many writers would rather do build up than actual relationships. Thanks for reviewing!

Nick didn’t seem familiar with the “Don’t push me ‘cause I’m close to the edge” song, but it came out about 40 years ago so I guess it’s understandable :) That’s “The Message” by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, which I believe was the first traditional rap song ever played on MTV (I think the first rap ever on MTV was in Blondie’s “Rapture”, but that was only part of the song so it’s not considered a rap song).

I didn't really know Hugh Jackman at this point when the movie was new. So looking back at it now I am like "really, that was him as Memphis?!" Mind blowing.

loved how the movie dragged u in with cute penguin dancing then had a really good message in it in the end. overfishing is srs an so bad an its why skua and other birds, prey on animals that they normally wouldnt. Also forget how knowledge on orcas an penguins in general, isnt that common. I just watch a whole load of Attenborough doccos xD i was like ..orcas are maniacs an will play with their food without even eating it, sometimes. an dont get me started on dolphins, they're psychos. lol

You should definitely check out the behind the scenes for this movie, especially with the dancing. They got Savion Glover to dance for Mumble

Happy Feet 2 is pretty amazing too. Sadly Brittany Murphy who voiced Gloria, passed early, RIP gone to soon. Pink ended up voicing Gloria for the second movie and I think she did an amazing job voicing Gloria.

As someone who loves animal biology, can confirm Petrols are absolutely terrifying birds. They learn to eat anything they can find since they are Arctic birds where food is scarce.

I think the only effect of him being dropped was him being underdeveloped. He never lost his baby feathers on his head.

He was going to lose them in the movie originally, but the execs thought that wasn't cute enough. There was even a picture book released before the movie where Mumble has his adult feathers. And near the end of the movie where Mumble is dancing with his father, it's extra touching, because together, Mumble looks similar to a young Memphis, as well as keeping his tap dancer look with the little feather bow tie and white stripe lapels and everything.

This movie makes me cry hard just after the humans show up, one thing this movie stands out for is it's realness, its accuracy. We take so much for ourselves on a daily basis without giving the planet or the animals a second thought. It makes me sad. Sad for the earth, and sad for humanity because we're inevitably destroying the earth and ourselves along with it.

the one thing i love most about this movie is how mumble can't sing because his heartsong is his tap-dancing and he learns that when he tap-dances to gloria's heartsong. it's such a beautiful scene that.

I always loved Happy Feet, most people say " oh it's just a silly kids movie with nonstop corny pop music " but if you look past that there some heartfelt scenes. Mumble's father hiding the fact he dropped the egg because he didn't want to be at fault for Mumble losing his singing ability. Mumble being outcasted because he has no place in the colony for not having a heartsong like everyone else. Even the harsh reality of commercial fishing ruining the chances of penguin survival and riots breaking out between people wanting to save the colony and others who just don't care because they are as that one man said " a bunch of flightless birds at the bottom of the world ".

I think Mumble the main penguin is meant to be like a representation of autism, there's a wide spectrum of how the brain can develop in mumble's case he was 'dropped' as an egg, I'm in the autism spectrum and rewatching see a trait or two similar to him I thought it was really fun, the animation is impressive even if it doesn't try to be so realistic it's very detailed The lighting too is amazing the reflections and the way the snow and ice look is cool ^-x

Orcas are basically the wolves of the sea. Even Great White Sharks fear orcas. They even eat other whales, seals, fish, & sharks! Leopard seals and orcas are the biggest predators of penguins.

You heard and guessed right, Robin gets to play two roles in the movie. :) Also, I'm very sorry to say this, but the orca whales fully intended to chow down on all of those penguins after playing with them. I'll always love seals and whales, but this film along with Pebble and the Penguin made me respect how skilled at hunting they are.
