Because you mentioned the actors having to play the not cute Marymount mathletes, in the DVD commentary, they talk about how at the cast party no one knew who the rival mathlete girl was because they uglified her so much for filming. I assume they did the same for the guys too. Knowing that always made that scene more enjoyable for me.

This is very accurate to America highschools. Cliques didnt necessarily target other cliques but some didnt like each other. Kids care what name brands you wear and if you had an iPhone or whatever. Even some of the cliques are very accurate like ROTC guys, awkward groups, sexually active bandgeeks is HIGHKEY accurate. I would say the jocks tables usually include grl jocks as well tho. Personally i had a very different experience. My friends had friends from other cliques but our table was cliqueless. We had a jock friend, an art kid, a theater kid, a choir girl, an anarchist rebel, a christian boy and me the awkward emoish kid. It was quite the table and sometimes we would conjoin tables to include more people if they wanted to sit with us. Actually even 2 of the popular girls in our grade would sit with us sometimes bc they liked to talk to me and the jock guy. I actually enjoyed the experience it was the only time in the day there was no pressure to fit into a group youre supposed to fit.
@NicoleM_radiantbaby
@NicoleM_radiantbaby 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I was in a 'clique-less' group as well -- mostly just full of misfits that didn't QUITE fit in elsewhere, I guess? I mean, I was a goth-y punk (this was the late 80s), but the few other goths were very insular and didn't give me the time of day and the punks were mostly skate-punks, who also were very judge-y against me because I didn't have a skateboard. It was all good though -- I liked hanging out with a mix of people, as it definitely can make you more open-minded.

You're lucky. That sounds like heaven. I never really fit in anywhere. I was a choir kid and even with the other choir kids I never really fit in. I ate my lunch in the choir room throughout high school. The cafeteria was just a no-go.

There are groups in American highschools but they aren’t as combative towards other groups. Most people are nice to each other regardless of their fashion (except those with poor hygiene). At least that’s how it was at my highschool in California

@@WillWatches Nobody's done _Drop Dead Gorgeous_ as far as I know, and it's so funny. Big ups on _Heathers,_ too, but keep in mind that some of the references can be a bit dated; I've seen some people totally miss the humor because they didn't know why some bottles of Evian was code for "gay" and so on. (And be in the right mood to watch it, because that movie is DARK humor.) I have a soft spot for _10 Things I Hate About You,_ myself, so I hope you embrace that one eventually.

A 'burn' is a dramatic insult. When Cady passed on the comment of her friend being "almost too gay to function", then a comment made with affection out of context it became a a nasty comment, a 'burn'. The Burn Book was a collection of nasty things said about people. They're making fun of people behind their backs.
