Misery is a 1990 American psychological thriller film directed by Rob Reiner, based on Stephen King's 1987 novel of the same name, starring James Caan, Kathy Bates, Lauren Bacall, Richard Farnsworth, and Frances Sternhagen. The plot centers around an author who is held captive by an obsessive fan who forces him to rewrite the finale to his novel series.
The film was released in the United States on November 30, 1990, by Columbia Pictures. It received highly positive reviews and was a box office success. Bates' performance drew widespread praise from critics and won her the Academy Award for Best Actress at the 63rd Academy Awards, making Misery the only film based on a Stephen King novel to win an Oscar.[4] King himself has stated that Misery is one of his top ten favorite film adaptations.

So this is the type of King story I absolutely adore. The man can write literally any genre, and he has created one of the most most elaborate, sprawling extended universes ever, but it's his compact, claustrophobic drama/thriller-type stories that scar you in the best way. If you enjoyed this, I strongly recommend Dolores Claibourne (also starring Kathy Bates, and she's listed it as her favorite role) and Gerald's Game. These are both drama/thriller/mysteries with a drop of supernatural spookiness and some incredibly funny, rich, heartbreakingly human main characters.

When Stephen saw the movie he wanted to write more characters for Kathy Bates to play. He wrote the Dolores Claiborne book as a character for her and the character of Ray Flowers for her to play in The Stand Miniseries.

Fun fact in the book Annie is much worse. She forces Paul to drink soap water after throwing her fit over swearing She leaves Paul for 51 hours without help When she does the hobbling she cuts Paul’s foot with a axe She cuts Paul’s finger off and uses it as a candle on a cake.

First time watching you and you did great. I subscribed. Stephen King books don't always translate well into movies but the ones that have are great. These you should see: Stand By Me, Shawshank Redemption, Green Mile, The Mist, Pet Semetary and The Shining.

You think this movie was gruesome, watch Pet Sematary. Another King adaptation. It goes to new levels. Side note, King shelved Pet Sematary after he wrote it for years. Thought it was too brutal. If King is horrified by his own work....it's a good one

If you're on a stephen king binge, i'd love to see you cover the original 'pet semetary' -its creepy af. stay away from the remake though for it is trash and its muff is cabbage.

@@Jhyad the sequel to that one called Pet cemetery 2 is actually decent- it’s not as good as the first one but it’s also not outright horrible and keeps a lot of the horror and feels in tact.
