Yup, Titanic was real and the name. Titanic was one of three ships of her class, the others being Olympic and Britannic.

I heard mentioning that the Titanic may have survived hitting the iceberg head on. Parks Stephenson (a veteran of the Naval academy and Titanic forensic researcher) said that a head on collision would have been devastating. He said that it would compromise the watertight doors, possibly bend the keel, passengers would have been thrown from their beds at 20 knots and the wireless rigging could have been undone rendering the wireless radio useless. The problem was, the iceberg was just so massive and had too much mass. Scientists say that if a modern liner were to have a collision with an iceberg, it could sink. Besides, no officer would ever purposely hit an obstacle head on.

Yeah no the sinking would've been way worse if she hit head on

Yup, 2 hours and 38 minutes of steady sinking, and then as soon as the ship breaks apart, it goes down within a couple of minutes. What you couldn't see from the video, and what I think it should have mentioned, is that the ship was still connected at the keel (the bottommost part of the ship), so the fully submerged bow dragged the stern down with it. If you were standing near where the ship snapped in half, you would have been sucked in and drowned. Staying on the ship for as long as possible on the stern, you would have had a better chance at survival as the air would already have been displaced by the water at that point (no suction). The explosions heard within the ship were air pockets being displaced by the water at a very rapid rate as the bow and the weight of the engines at the breakpoint pulled the stern down. This is why the stern of the wreck is a complete mess while the bow is still largely intact.

I desagree with the idea that titanic would have stayed afloat if it had hit head on onto the iceberg. Britannic when she struck the mine her structure twist and the water tight door jamed. So if titanic had hit head on, first, the bow would had been completely destroyed and her structure would had probably twisted and jammed the water tight doors anyway. Beside all the injuries and death that would had occurred with the impact only.

If the Titanic hit head on, only two compartments would be compromised not 5 or 6 as it scraped by the iceberg so the ship would have stayed afloat. The ship was designed to stay afloat with 4 compartments breached beyond that the water would spill over each bulkhead and sink the ship which is what happened.

1:14:24 you missunderstood that number. it didnt mean that there were 28 lifeboats with capacity for 65, it meant that lifeboat 7 had a capacity for 65 but they launched it with only 28 people onboard. 1:28:36 its not "for americans", thats not the same "miles". Americans use "land" miles which is around 1,6 Km (dont know the exact value), at sea we use nautical miles (Nm). 1 Nm = 1,852 Km. And it is not just on ships, aviation also use nautical miles. It is the standard unit to use in navigation.

A bit late, I know, but since I've seen no one mention them, so I want to mention two things: First is the reasons why the lifeboats weren't filled to capacity. They were numerous reasons: Lightoller's misunderstanding of the captain's order leading to lifeboats being launched when there were no more women willing to get in in the vicinity regardless of the amount of men around (some of whom weren't actually "men" age-wise by modern standards) is one of the most famous ones. Another reason was humans being humans aka irrational: When the call to go to the lifeboats came, people didn't immediately rush to them as many still believed in the lie of the "unsinkable ship" the media and the White Star Line spread. Especially at the beginning there were only small crowds around them. Even later, some people still refused the call to the lifeboats. Others were actually too afraid to go into the shaky lifeboats hanging in the air and, in there inability to grasp that not going into the lifeboats meant their assured demise, refused to go in (and the crew couldn't really force them to go in, either). And then there was the most understandable reason: People who either didn't want to part with loved ones who wouldn't get a place on the boat or were old and thus wanted to keep the seat open for younger people (unfortunately, that didn't work out most of the time and the lifeboats were lowered without the seats those people selflessly gave up not being filled). And lastly, there was the issue of class: The higher the class of the passengers, the higher the priority. All of the above were mostly First and Second class passengers (in fact, 97% of all women and children traveling in the First Class survived). While a few of the Third Class survived, most were doomed from the moment the ship took on more water than it could handle. I've heard that it is even possible some died without ever knowing what was happening since the Third Class was confined and thus isolated to its area. Second is about Ismay: While he certainly was in no small part responsible for the tragedy being the one to order the Titanic to pic up more speed thus leaving too little time to evade the Iceberg when it came into view hours later, he wasn't the sole person to blame as numerous factors and human errors played into it. However, in the aftermath, he was used as a scapegoat for the White Star Line as he was one of the few adult men to survive and given the full blame. To this day, there are still people believing and spreading lies about him, not just claiming it was all his fault and no one elses (which, again, isn't true) but some claim he was one of the first out when there are numerous survivors reporting having seen him helping people get into boats and go out and look for people to fill the lifeboats when they weren't enough around. He only left on the very last lifeboat at which point I don't think anyone could blame him for leaving. As much as I respect those people who gave their lives to save others by allowing someone else to take their place, one should never forget that self-preservation is the most basic instinct of any living being and not easy to overcome. I think the fact that he, alongside the other crewmembers on board of that last lifeboat, refused to give into that instinct until the very end should at the very, very least be recognized. While I do not mean to downplay the amount of blame that can be truly laid on him, he is certainly not the 1912 version of the captain of the Costa Concordia people made and still make him out to be.

It"s actually really sad to read all of this the very first titanic movie even showed older people leaving room for younger ones. It's so sad to think of families and loved ones being split apart or wanting to die together. There were so many literal heros on the ship crew and passangers but none of them will actually be known and just lost in history like every single one of us
@MarcMagma
@MarcMagma Жыл бұрын
@@Infinity-bs3ve Yeah, there were a lot of people who showed their bravery and selflessness that day. As good of a movie as "Titanic" was, I don't know why Cameron felt the need to make up characters when there were so many real heroes, all of whom deserve to be remembered, to choose from. If you haven't seen it already, I recommend the movie-style documentary "The Engineers Who Died To Keep The Titanic's Lights On | Saving The Titanic | Timeline" by the channel "Timeline - World History Documentaries". It shows the Titanic sinking from the perspective of the stokers as well as other crew members, the unsung heroes of the disaster.

Just wanted to say that titanic actually had 4 more boats then required by law to carry, you see back then life boats were made to ferry poeple from one ship to another becuase they just assumed there would be a ship close anough to ferry the boats, also the regulations were slightly outdated, and titanic didn't have an efficient way of launching lifeboats all the lifeboats were launched via davits on the deck that were turned by hand. More lifeboats would have killed more ppl they would have been in the way.. they barely had anough time to launch the lifeboats they had.

At the 1 hour and 52 minute mark of the video u ask why is the water tilted its becuase ur looking towards the front of the ship which is much deeper in the water then the stern/back so ur seeing the water going up becuase ur looking towards the front of the ship the part thats submerging so the water gradually goes upwards the closer to the front of the ship u go

The reason it took so long for them to call for help was well they didn't know if the ship was fully sinking yet it takes a long time to figure out if a ship like that is sinking they tought mabey the ship would stabilize u see titanic could stay afloat with the first 4 comperments in the bow breached however the iceberg ripped open 6 so there was no way the ship could stay afloat however they didn't know that. it takes time to figure things like that out it doesn't just take 5 minutes
