I love it. "Glory-hole Grey" and "Hard-on Leather." I'm admittedly a Yankee, but I had to rewatch and listen several times. Being a former Marine and always a bit childish, I get a good chuckle out of this. I believe I noticed this in a couple of your videos. If you're doing this on purpose keep it up.

One of my favourite things to do with speedpaint/contrast is a bone undercoat. I wanted a blood angels helmet on a chaos lords trophy rack. I'd used a bone primer and drybrushed white on the edges and used to paint makes a gorgeous red. The thinned agrax after made it look stupidly good

I use a flat varnish sealer to protect my minis after the paint job is done. As a bonus it completely locks in the decals and takes the shine away.

Dude this strategy helped me feel comfortable trying a space marine all that round edging is hard to start on and you really showed how to do it simply and efficiently.

Other than me getting a ball bearing in the nozzle of my Fire Giant Orange and losing half the bottle to a catastrophic blow out? :p They are great! The only color lacking, in my opinion of course, is the crusader skin. I think it’s because the Contrast Flesh tones are so dang good. The yellow is the sleeper hit. So warm and creamy. I cannot wait to get ahold of the rest of the range here soon.

I've used the Speed Paints a couple of times and one difference I noticed to Contrast is that with Contrast the paint stays more on the place I've put. The Speedpaints are much more "liquid" and tend to flow along the miniature going into places I don't want it to. Other than that looks good.

Awesome video! Fully agree that Speedpaints seem VERY good for painting these guys. And to answer your question, depending on the size of game you play you might have around 50 Marines. Speedpaints definitely seem like a much more fun way of churning through them :)

@@WatchItPaintIt Hahaha 50 is only if you're playing a larger sized game, if you played like a 500pt (combat patrol) sized game you'd have far fewer. If you're interested in trying a smaller game, GW do sell combat patrol boxes which are basically a 500pt army in a box which you can use for casual games. As for a mishmash army, I think you could say that they're all working together as one force and people would be okay with it, for rules purposes would just have to play with one chapter's rules :)

I love your work but if you are using speedpaint/contrast you should really clean up mold lines and joins. The speedpaints show them up even more than normal paint.

Hard on leather is my favourite colour in the speed paint starter set. It's even nicer when mixed with a drop of gloryhole grey 🤤

I find it interesting that you still use the Hobby Holder, even though you've lost the grip, screw caps and stability bar.

I switched out the screw caps on one of mine for the really good putty from the RGG holder. I still use screw caps on my other holds when I’m batch painting. And I use the bar when I’m not on camera -it blocks the view for people :) the efforts I go to :-D

Watched this video again. Absolutely blast SpeedPaint job. Love the color as well. Is there any specific technic you could share in order the beginners could reach similar results? I mean, you pull out paint from flat surfaces like shoulders and knee pads, right? Or it's done like for free because of SpeedPaint itself? Because my minis don't look so awesome hahaha

The shoulder pads is the hardest, just watch the pooling. I’m learning more each time but you can slurp up pooling as the Speedpaint drys, something that doesn’t work with contrast! So you can kind of adjust the paint as it’s drying! Need to pay attention but gives you something to do why you wait :D

Really think TAP should adop your names for the paints. They'd sell like hot cakes! Or icecream on the sun. (-: The end result turned out very well, especially considering the time invested. I'm always amazed how great both SP/Contrast looks over metallics. That said, I never remember to use it that way^^ As for next chapter. What about Space Wolves? (-: (No, don't think there's actually a SP for that? :'( )

So I've had this argument with people i know since the contrast paints released. They believe that it's not table top standard. Add some easy highlight and so on. But for me, this is plenty fine. I've painted since I was 12 and I don't really enjoy playing against grey models. I will if it's a new player, but I try to avoid it. Or the ones that just have a flat coat of paint. Like all green. But this? I'd love to play against an army looking like this. To me this is better than what I could do when I started so I think army painter and Citadel have both hit the nail on the head. Love the products and I tell everyone I know that wants to start, to get these because they are such a confidence booster for new painters!

Okay, these speed paints are crazy. I might want to make Dark Angels now. Is the blue from them also this good? I kind of suck at ultramarines, and would love a quick and easy way to paint them, and have at least half as good results.

I finally got my hands on the speedpaints and I like them a lot but why did you never touch on the subject that they reactivate with water really easy?

Because I didn’t even notice it until really recently! I’d managed to not hit the issue once in all the stuff I did :/ and now I know it exists I just avoid it or use it to my advantage. Can definitely see it being a problem from time to time or depending how you paint but somehow doesn’t really effect myself :O

I am starting painting with them as new painter and purchased an airbrush as well. Do you recommend a zenithal priming before painting or all should be matt white? Thanks a lot for your content

Did you see we did a video on zenithal priming and speed paints? I think it’s subjective and personally I can’t be bothered to do the extra effort but a lot of people really like how the results look. If you have the effort it’s probably worth doing!

Don't own the SP's yet, so can't really comment on them. But when it comes to Contrast paints, I do believe a Zenithal is worth it. That said, I'd go for a grey + white since Contrast (and sp I believe) over black doesn't really work. Is it extra work? Yeah, sure. But if you already got an airbrush, doing the white/top colour, it doesn't take much extra time.

You should be working in the "product naming department".....hahahaha As I'm still waiting for my mega set I do wonder if you have tried doing some of the lighter colors (white, bone, yellow and blue) on a dark primer? I'm thinking about doing my eldar using a sort of "reverse speed/contrast paint" by using a dark primer (chaotic red is my go to primer) and then using the white speedpaint on the armor plates hopefully creating a dark(ish) edge with a bright center.

The colours don't really show on darker primer because the paints are translucent so they only tint the primer colour, plus the Holy White is actually a pale grey so it doesn't actually make your primer a lighter tone, it shades the recesses like a wash.

a technique question for you. I noticed you start at the leg and go up. Is there a reason for that? I have found with contrast that going from top to bottom is easier because you can take the excess paint and pull it down. Anyway, great tutorial, I love the finished result and this green WAY better than the ork flesh color.

I think I mentioned as I was doing that - or maybe I just said it in my head :-D I’m still trying lots of things and did it both ways. I’m with you. I think dragging down is slightly better, but I tidy up pools as it’s drying too so I don’t think it matters too much. I’m a huge fan of this green too, lovely colour at the end

How do you stop the paint from looking streaky when you push it around?

Keep it thick! I paint it on very thick, move it every where I want and then wick off excess as it’s drying

Any reactivation issues when you paint over them?

It definitely happens but it didn’t cause me any issues here. In fact I’m painting a large miniature at the moment. With multiple layers and dry brushing and I’m using the reactivation to my advantage or dodging it again. I was considering doing a video on how it doesn’t have to be the end of the world. Definitely going to be an issue for some people but it’s also avoidable and even useable!

'Slutty Red' is what happens when a Slaanesh's faithful infiltrates a band of Khorne Berzerkers. Had a lot of fun watching you paint this Dark Angel. I personally like their old-school look beter (they used to have less blue in their green, I think). What do you think about painting a Deathwing color scheme with Speed Paints?
