I absolutely love Tak, so awesome to see a how to play video from you on this that I can share with others now to easily introduce the rules to them :)! Also great work as always on the setups too for instructions that helped concisely discuss multiple related rules (e.g. the capstone flattening stones at 06:10 )

Two Questions: Can you move one of your walls on your turn if it is not atop a stack? When initially placing a piece, can you place it anywhere (except on a wall/capstone) or does it have to be an open space? Thanks for all you do!
@WatchItPlayed
@WatchItPlayed 7 жыл бұрын
Hey Bruce, yep, you can move a stack that includes just a single wall piece. When placing a piece it must be in an empty space. Hope that helps!

When counting stacks for score once all of the empty spaces are filled, do you only count the stacks that you control with a flat piece on top? What about the stack that you control with a cap Stone or a standing piece on top?

Great video! You did have one motion that could be a bit confusing to new players. At 05:58 you move a stack of pieces underneath a capstone, as opposed to moving a capstone on top of the pieces. Note to new players: you cannot move any piece underneath another piece, only on top. Also, everyone should play online at Playtak.com, as it's a wonderful way to learn the game while you wait for your physical set :)
@WatchItPlayed
@WatchItPlayed 7 жыл бұрын
Yes, you're right. In doing that I was setting up the example, not making a game move, but it could confuse people if they didn't understand that's what I was doing.

Can you take a single piece and move it onto a stack, then in the same move take that stack and continue to drop off pieces in a straight line?
@WatchItPlayed
@WatchItPlayed 7 жыл бұрын
You have to make your movement based on the height of the stack when you first move it (in that case, your first movement was with a stack 1 high, so you'd have to stop after moving 1 space).
@AshLeonardJ

I love this game and your channel but I can't find anywhere that answers whether capstones count in a flat win. Usually if it goes to a flat win both players have played their cap but it's not impossible to have a situation where one player hasn't. I'm imagining a situation where the winning player is only ahead by one stack and that includes his cap, while the other player has not played her cap. Would that be a win or a tie?Thoughts?
@WatchItPlayed
@WatchItPlayed 7 жыл бұрын
Hey Leonard, let's take a look at the rules for this one: "Flat Win: If either player runs out of pieces, or if the board is completely full, then the game ends immediately and the player with the most flat stones wins. Count only the flat stones on top of stacks, not those buried within stacks. If this count is tied, then the game is a draw." This would suggest to me, that as stated in the video you only count the stacks with flat stones on top. Meaning capstone stacks are not counted.
@AshLeonardJ
@AshLeonardJ 7 жыл бұрын
That's what I thought as well, though the rules also state that "capstones combine the best aspects of standing and flat stones" and that would seem to imply that it is like a flat in every respect, plus some other properties. I know this is a real minutiae. Thanks for responding :)

If you control a stack of 3x in a 5x5 game; can you take the entire stack and move everything one space (leaving no piece behind)? Seems to be a good tactic to mop up your opponents pieces.

When you place a piece, you can either place it upright, or flat. Only capstones flatten upright pieces.

I'm a bit confused. How does a standing piece end up on a stack? Can you place them there? Can they be moved?
@WatchItPlayed
@WatchItPlayed Жыл бұрын
You can move a piece onto a stack, including a standing piece (the restriction is that you can't move a piece onto a stack that *already* has a standing piece - unless you're moving your capstone (which knocks over standing pieces, including ones on stacks)).

I apologize if someone has pointed this out, but all the rules say that a capstone can be part of a winning road (reads as a flat stone). However if playing points, it does not count as a point.

However, as Pat was involved in the development, they probably didn't want to make it even more complex because if there is something Kvothe can't figure out after a few attempts it has to be hard as hell. :P

Why is the very first shot of the game in this video, the first five seconds, an illegal move on the board?
@WatchItPlayed
@WatchItPlayed 7 жыл бұрын
The intro animation is just action shots. The scene is shown later in the video where the audio explains what is happening there. That said, to prevent potential confusion that might be caused if someone stopped watching after the intro, it might have been good to consider a different shot. Something I'll consider in the future.
