The 2004 Banda aceh Earthquake and Tsunami. I was in college and was near becoming a geology major. My Aunt Teresa (God rest her Soul) had called the day after Christmas to tell me.

2001 earthquake killed 21k people "on paper", but there were more than 300k casualties which were underreported because lack of tracking.

No worries, because the 2030 earthquake will kill over a million. And the 2050 will kill half the planet, if we have any luck. And in another few million, our planet will be so close to the sun that no life could exist and it will eventually be evaporated and destroyed by the radiation from the Sun. Can hardly wait.

I know that these were devastating, but the 2009 Australian bushfires deserve an honourable mention. Hundreds of homes and lives were lost.

Thanks for saying it, I know in the big picture only 173 people died but Black Saturday seems kinda important. The only reason I could think to not have it there is it was deliberately started. But it was also overdue to happen.

I remember the tsunami back when I was in the 2nd grade, my god the number of lives lost in the mess, but after that, everyone from around the world joined in to put in the effort of cleaning up, even tv stations like Cartoon Network joined in

For Tsunami 2004, I was in my school's homecoming party at Bangkok. I never know its news until the evening. I'm so shocked and surprised since I never heard there is the Tsunami in Southeast Asia before.

I was 1 years old during the 2005 Earthquake in Pakistan and my dad told me that a lot of damage had been in my area some of the damage can still be seen today it took a long time to repair the damage.

I live in a tropical country. I always wanted to experience snow. I'm not so sure now. The thing is, if you want to devastate humanity, you just need to switch the temperature they're used to. But, on the bright side, I want to see how we'll evolve further based on our environmental conditions.

I was in NOLA (New Orleans)during the Hurricane I was a baby so like 3-4. I don't really know anything but footage and small info. But to know that my people's had to stand on the roof is like damn.

I worked with a guy who lost his whole family to Katrina except I think one grandmother. Nowadays he is in negotiations to be drafted into the NFL.

I remember how much damage Katrina did. The one disaster I know about the most of one we can never forget. The 9/11 attack. I feel like it should be the most remembered thing, as it changed America forever.

I remember waking up on the 26th of December 2004 hearing that a earthquake and a tsunami had struck Thailand and the countries around on the news. Me and my parents knew a norwegian journalist and his family that was in Thailand celebrating Christmas just near the area where it happened. They survived , but I bet they had some nightmares in the aftermath of the event.

I'll never forget Katrina. We went to the beach a few weeks after and the ocean was still very dangerous. Some girls were in the ocean and one got swept away. From our hotel we watched them bring her out. Unfortunately she was deceased....they didn't even cover her!

I imagine and would expect that on the next list you would include 1998's hurricane George, which struck the Dominican Republic on September 22, 1998 and was the deadliest hurricane to ever struck the country after cyclone David in 1979. The force of hurricane George was powerful enough to disrupt such forms of communication as telephone lines and displace many people from their homes. At that time I was about two years old and my sister had six days left before she turned four. Although I have no memory of this disaster, I still wonder how my mother and father survived through the passing of this storm.

Fact: In 2004 Tsunami, in Aceh, West Sumatera, there is one mosque that still standing when the Tsunami happened. While every other buildings got destroyed, that mosque didn't.

@@kittylover62 Most houses and apartments in Europe do not have air conditioning and they are built to keep warm so you can use less heat in the winter and there by saving energy and the environment and that is why it gets so hot in houses / apartments in a heat wave in Europe

Holy Cow!!! Some of these disasters are just completely awe expressing... 😳. Mother nature’s wraith is just scary as hell 😅... sometimes I think... all we can do is just sit back, pray and eat some popcorn 🍿... (been hit by/under a T3 tornado, rode out multiple cat 3/4 hurricanes, and multiple devastating forest fires •••. The fires were the worst/scariest•••)

I was living in Belgium in the early summer of 2003. Air conditioning is not common in Europe. We visited Munich one weekend it was nearly 40C.

When they do the 2010’s list, I know that the 2011 Japan Earthquake/Tsunami will be at the top and the 2011 Joplin Tornado will be on that list.

News flash: the March 11, 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan was at number two on the countdown and the May 22, 2011 EF5 tornado that devastated Joplin, Missouri didn't make the list.

#1 deserves to be the Boxing Day Earthquake and Tsunami. It’s the second-deadliest earthquake of all time, and it brought tsunamis to the forefront of public consciousness
