why do lots of real outdoor people mountain climbers say the watch sucks and navigatiin is way of track?
@WatchUP69MrRangeman
@WatchUP69MrRangeman 4 жыл бұрын
I know several mountain climbers, many from Switzerland and they mostly don't wear a watch, or if they do it's usually a light ProTrek... real mountain climbers don't use toys like these, these toys are for those who aren't native to reading and surveying the openness, or are less experienced. This is where it goes very wrong, you're trying to make something the watch isn't, thinking it's a Sat-Nav, the GPR isn't that type of watch, it's a tough watch that has tracking abilities and is able to set points for later use. Huge battery pack with a working solar charging system. It's mud resistant and resistant to shocks including temperature shocks, plus has a LOW TEMP DISPLAY, and have you seen how a regular LCD/display acts when in freezing conditions? Let me also mention the reliability of the GPR-B1000 Rangeman, at this moment and time Garmin for an example have been hacked, which has forced them to shutdown the app side, which means I can't at this moment plan any routes to my watch, am also experiencing GPS signals loss! While that's in a mess my Rangeman continues to track me, route me and set point memos, so if anything sucks at the moment it's not the GPR. Their's climbers and their's CLIMBERS, I think the ones you've been listening to aren't hardcore with no nonsense relying on gadgets, the big boys interest is making a challenging summit. You choose your tools wisely, if you choose a tool expecting more, then having a hissy fit about it proves their weakness, real climbers get on with it and always move upwards. Look at both sides to build the fuller picture, and those real climbers don't have time for KZfaq! So these watches are for the lesser men if you know what I mean, we are using these as aids but sometimes you never know, so having a solid tool with some form of help can be a life saver, but it's not 100%, and getting lost is easily done regardless, as humans make mistakes that no computer can help you with.

@@WatchUP69MrRangeman ..thanks for the quick and detailed explanation did not expect anything else 😉🙃 but to immediately get rid of a misunderstanding, I do not criticize the Rangeman GPR since I have the Green version (1B) myself. I always wanted to buy a solar buy powered G Shock but there was never one with all the features on it that I personally would have liked to see until the rangeman gpr came out. have the Rangeman-B1000 1-BER since November 2018, was first in the Netherlands with the green version though lol😉have to honestly say navigation of the rangeman gpr has never let me down during the long forest walks with the kids.Im a noob and no mountain climbing for me😋 i was just wodering cuz of reviews.so thx again bud ! when i got the first all youre YT vids realy helped me understand the watch to the fullest for that i tyvm! @@the_outer_circle_trader1936 Cheers for your reply :) The Garmin fan boys have gone quite and the Rangeman fans still continue using their GPR's... use it to its means and it's a powerful tool... as with trees this does have an effect, personally I believe GPS watches and devices work using antennas, have been doing some research about this, as the military still stand by them. The coverage from a frequency covers a huge distance, and to think how far the MB6 antennas reach just goes to show their strength. Sometimes with an open sky in a deep valley the GPS can fail which I've lived, and this gives me more proof to my idea how they work. Also receiving frequencies doesn't use up battery that fast, look how long a battery radio can last, and that has a speaker too. If you're planning an Amazon adventure, then please go with a guide and in a group, at least you have food if you're not a vegetarian LML :-P Have a great Sunday :)

Best channel on KZfaq. Before I bought my Rangeman i was up in arms between the G shock and Garmin! However after watching all WatchUp69 videos on the Rangeman and the tests that his been doing between both watches I found that the Rangeman was a perfect fit. Tough, thick and long lasting solar power. However I do need to say this about this channel..... I struggled to get my watch up and running since the day I bought it which was 6 weeks ago. Without the help of WatchUp69 and his detailed reviews i would of return the watch as a Faulty unit. WatchUp69 spent some time with me to teach me how to understand the functions of this watch and to come to realise that the watch wasn't faculty but the App needs an update(which hasn't happened yet). THANKYOU Mate!!!!!! You have a happy viewer here. Now this is a shout out to Casio - You need to sponsor this Channel, I called Casio to help me sort my issues and maybe assist to see if I was doing something wrong. I got no help at all! They just said return it!! This channel did the work for you, therefore I think this channel should get sponsored to promote and review other G-Shock watches. CASIO, I will buy more watches if you give him watches to review and keep. Some of the reviews are long but they are detailed. You wont miss a thing. Once again thank you for making my life easier.

Thank you my friend for your amazing message... it was a pleasure to help and glad it wasn't anything wrong with the actual Rangeman. I enjoy doing this channel and most importantly helping with understanding a watch that I've had experience with, as those who sell these types of watches aren't as geek as I am, plus they've probably not lived with it enough to understand every detail. I like to address every possible situation with watches I review especially these hybrids, even taken them on pointless tests across Europe just to see how the GPS functions, but if anything it just shows how incredible this Rangeman is. Anyway, thanks again for the message has made some big smiles my end of the world. Cheers Phill

Cheers buddy... you're not the first to say if CASIO paid me, and I also got a negative comment saying how crap the GPR-B1000 was compared to the Garmin Fenix's, and that I must be getting paid to support such crap.... well the answer is, CASIO don't, nobody pays me, this is a passion that I enjoy, and making it a job would spoil that side I'm sure. The GPR-B1000 is my favourite watch, and when my Fenix 6 Pro couldn't be used when Garmin got hacked that time last year, my trusty GPR-B1000 was ready... oddly that negative comment guy went quite when I returned to ask how his Fenix is coping with the use of Garmin's App... well he didn't reply, and that was one point I mention, that this GPR-B1000 shouldn't be compared to the Fenix, both are different, but most importantly, both can navigate you :) (the Rangeman navigates further) Enjoy it, it's a very very good G-Shock to have :)

Thanks so much for taking the time, Sir. I just received the watch and your tutorial (particularly the "hands on" GPS functions with walking tour) is the first one that makes perfect sense to a new owner like me, and is far easier to understand than even the official full manual, which after repeated reads still didn't make all functions clear. Great job, very much appreciated all your hard work. Cheers from sunny Southern California, stay safe!

Perfect timing I would say... wasn’t sure if I wanted to make another tutorial on the GPR-B1000 as it’s packed full with so much details, that I knew it would be a long time in the making... but grabbed the bit and went full on with it... there’s more to this watch, but decided that what I would cover is plenty enough. I 've seen many reviews that many owners here in Qatar failed to get a gps signal , but i will try it nonetheless here and in my native country tunisia . I will be updating you regarding how it behaved in the middle of the desert. And i will be putting that tide function into test , as here it's very useful to monitor your timing while entry /exit from desert as most of the route is a seashore. Thanks again for the effort , highly appreciated and great content sir

Hey buddy What a great comment with some interesting information too. Now I’ve been doing some research especially with regards to the GPS, and when I mention to those who are having issues with getting GPS signals, is because I believe that the GPS is working using antennas like how the military use. Now I’ve experienced that in areas that are isolated, near military zones or some airports, that the GPS isn’t available. When I was in the mountains in Switzerland travelling in a deep valley, I lost the GPS signal, even with a lovely blue sky above my head. But as soon as I climb nearer to the road, the GPS signal returned. Some think I’m wrong and it does use satellites, but I’ve yet to try it in the middle of absolutely nowhere to see if I’m able to get a signal, and for those in Qatar unable to use their GPR’s proves it’s antenna based in my view. The frequency range is pretty wide form antennas, but fall too far below, or travel too high with many mountain peeks, you’ll be out of range, and if it was satellite, then you shouldn’t have issues surly???.... it’ll be interesting to know how you get on sharing your experience along the way. Please let us know... cheers buddy and thanks again ;)

*Its quite obvious this watch was intended to hunt the undead: Autolight is disabled in order to avoid being spotted. Daylight remaining and distance from safe location are measured to ensure you get home before the light dies and the vampires come out. A moon graph to indicate when werewolves are at full strength and to show how much ambient light is available for night hunts. Temperature readings to detect sudden suspicious drops in temperature indicating the approach of a ghost or eldritch abomination. Pressure readings with warnings about sudden changes -clearly to indicate a vampire in mist form or a vapourous spectre entering your location. Altitude to indicate how deep you are in a dungeon. Tide graphs to show when its safe to enter and clear out coastal caves. Heck it even creates a location reading so that you can call in fellow hunters using their own rangemans via the radio. All they need to do is dial in your longitude and latitude and they have a drop zone. On top of that its nearly indestructible. This watch is the greatest!*

WOW... I hope you made most of that buying percentage from you.. as now I have much on the line LML :-P The videos don't lie, so what you see is what you get and it's true, the battery is a monster! Remember when it's on 2 cells on the battery, that's like a regular solar G-Shock, so if you want a few days of GPS then use the charger and don't rely upon the solar side, as the battery to reach full charge (4 cells) is massive, and it would take weeks to get it up to full... the solar does keep the watch performing, and does top up the battery to 3 cells, but wanted to mention this now that 4 cells is faster with the wireless charger. @@anthonymares5079 Let me try and help... connect the GPR to the app... select the settings icon at the top right corner, and scroll down to select tide location and open. For an example, I’m in Switzerland at the moment, and the map isn’t showing any port locations, well that’s obvious, as Switzerland doesn’t have tides, so really having tide information is pointless, unless you need to know from another country, so from the map, scrolling around with pinch to zoom in or out will show all the ports with red dots. From there you’ll follow what is needed. You may find that you won’t see these port location red dots, that’s because you either need to pinch to zoom out, or you’re in a land like Switzerland, that has no sea ports. @@wrightstuf73sw My favourite G-Shock is my Rangeman... it's not the fastest at getting the GPS, but it's the only GPS watch that continues to power the GPS... I've travelled from UK to Switzerland and back again by road and the Rangeman mapped it all, unbelievable... basic navigation that's reliable and works when mountain biking as the bearing compass doesn't jump around like on my Fenix, so they put some head thought into it. She's also build to another level over your H1000, and the wireless charger is very neat indeed... I did a review on my ultimate case with a mod I did to my wireless charger, so maybe for you too for later?? I've posted on my community page about the GPR-B1000 asking what true owners think, as one channel really hated it, but it turns out they're comparing a top of the range Range Rover next to a Trophy Truck. I've had mine since October 2018 and there's no way I'm returning it!!!!

I’ve finally done it! I got the Rangeman, now I have the old and the new! I still noticed that the new Instinct went Solar. If only the Rangeman could notify you of a notification and allow you to dismiss it or answer your phone, and vibrate. It would be absolutely perfect for me. I don’t want the full functional smart watch but I do appreciate the minimal interactions you can make with your phone. Thanks for the great tutorials on the Rangeman. They are what kept me on the path to getting it instead of the Instinct Solar.

Back in the days when smart watches were on the new horizon, I jumped on the kick starter for Pebble watches... I about four at one time and loved them... and theirs me banging on how you don't need your phone and how convenient the watch is to read your messages... but when that silly iWatch came out, Pebble cut many of the features it was offering, and of course Apple wanted their customers buying their watches, so Pebble became literally a Pebble, so was made to return to looking at my phone at the messages... but over a period of two weeks I realised I was using the Pebble making it fit in my life, and living without it wasn't the end of the world, and ever since I don't have interest. Sometimes best to keep it mineral and let the phone do what it does, and a camera do what that does, as it's less fuss especially trying to get that connection between watch and phone on smart watches :-P The GPR-B1000 will outlive any smart watch of today and phone and cars and people... it's a hybrid, but also stands alone ready and waiting for you, and most importantly , it'll be reliable and not have a mental breakdown because it can't upload the latest software... the GPR-B1000 is my ultimate and favourite watch, next to my new GG-B100 Mudmaster :)) Cheers and you did a good choice :) (Instinct is also great)

Thank you my friend... put a lot of thought into this video to make it easy to follow in a understandable order... a few knock this watch thinking it's expensive for such basic GPS features... well this morning it took my Fenix 6 Pro 22 minutes to get a GPS fix on my walk, while the Rangeman took less than a minute into the walk. The simple layout is perfect for those frustrating moments when you need to access features quickly, while having the better GPS watch can make it overwhelming and makes you press the wrong buttons in panic... it's a survival watch made for the toughest environments with a battery that can run a small town :) Are you considering this Rangeman or do you already own it? Cheers!

@@steventhornley5373 Let me tell you some facts that I've lived... and being that I don't make a penny from CASIO means I can say what I like.... the point is which many don't understand is the GPR-B1000 is a GPS tracker which can track up to 48hrs on a full battery... once the battery falls below the minimum reserve it then acts as an ABC G-Shock... now being that I also use a Garmin Fenix 6 Pro I can really tell you the differences... the Fenix is a smart watch, it needs software updates to keep it smooth I guess, but it's hardware with software added exactly like a smart phone or PC... well it's going to perform like crazy and give you the best it can with the most details possible and giving you loads of performance, but as we know smart tech does become outdated, and eventually it'll be thrown away.... well the GPR-B1000 isn't a smart watch, it doesn't have the best with the most detailing and isn't the super sonic of the GPS class, but it also won't get any less of what it can do over the years... as the hardware is part of the software means it's more stable than a nuclear power plant... it won't crash, over heat and become a slug in a few years... it'll always be ready and won't need software updates leaving you waiting till you can use it... that's the big difference, and yes my Fenix has crashed 8 times, but it comes back... it's a great watch for the now, and hopefully it'll last for another 5yrs+, but I know this but it has the price of being the best. The GPR-B1000 is a survival tool, turn the GPS on and it'll track you, and also take point memos... it'll give you a GPS altimeter reading and point back to start... yeah it may have a useless map, but over a longer distance it gives you an idea, some moan about that side, but when only travelling a few kilometres you're not exactly lost... this is more for adventures over the harsher times... those who moan are the ones that follow Bear Grylls, he's a soft camper at the best of times, and just TV hype in my opinion, as some of his ideas are just too time consuming and energy taking... Ray Mears is the fat guy, and the fat guy knows how to feed, so living off meat for a few weeks will keep you alive as you have fat to burn, skinny guy will have a shock and probably go mind warping crazy LML :-P So the Rangeman is your Rayman.... and the Garmin is your Garylls... you want fancy go Grylls, you want simplicity but effective then hunt the Bear and survive the longest... if I had to choose, Rangeman is my pick, and I would also choose the first Gen Rangeman (GW-9400) To have a title of 'RANGEMAN' you need to earn it, and those two do. I've had a comment on my GBD-H1000 video with a guy gutting the crap out of the GRP-B1000 saying it failed and he took it apart and ended up throwing it away... well I said that's a worry, but when I mentioned that there was many good parts that could've been used to sell like the carbon strap, ceramic case back, sapphire crystal, battery, carbon composite case and the list goes on then asking which bin did he throw it in, he hasn't replied funnily??? Now call me an idiot some times, but throwing away a watch that isn't cheap or yet to attempt to have it fixed by CASIO for FREE is smelling a little odd don't you think... I would even go to the point to ask where he bought it and ask if there is evidence of this story??? I've been in the GRP-B1000 world since 2018 and I've heard of a few complaints with regards to issues, but nothing that alarms me, and things do go wrong.... I remember there was, and maybe that video is still available to view, where a guy wearing his GPR-B1000 had a big fall on his bicycle, and all he did in that video was hissy fit about one of the side bumpers ripping off! Now these bumpers are call bumpers and not airbags, and these are replaceable which is better than a whole new bezel, it's designed like this for such reasons... the watch itself was fully functional, so for £20 he could have it looking great again... now falling off a bicycle using a Fenix 6 Pro would look pretty bad, and the bezels on those are not cheap, and it means you have to remove many screws and a seal to exchange it... so it's these bad comments and press that I find lame... I've smashed my GPR-B1000 around and yes it has scuffs and some of the strap screws are worn, but it still looks fine to me, and performs perfectly. It's a tough watch, with that mud-resist don't forget, take it in the sea, lakes and snorkel with it all day with no issues! Now, some even say the wireless charger is cheap looking, well I have to add, I've crushed mine, sat on it and even got it wet, and it still works with no cracks... stay tuned as I've modded mine just to make it Mr Rangeman proof which I will show all. Yeah big comment, but I do get tired of those who knock this watch, and it's always from those who maybe need things done for them, meaning their hand needs holding, well if it's not for you, then it's no deal with me, we all have our own needs and requirements... I really love it, and I don't care if it doesn't have a hourly SIG, but would've been nice with a ((VIBE)) alarm... to me it's still very current, and the great thing with G-Shocks even the DW-5000c (1983) I own is still usable... don't think you need to worry for the nest 20yrs at least, and batteries for these aren't expensive and are easy to replace... I can still buy batteries for all my vintage G-Shocks :) Hope my words help you understand my side more, and why I have the name Mr Rangeman (given by a subscriber) Have a great weekend and looking forward to your Bear hunting :))

@@WatchUP69MrRangeman perfect answer although I'm not knocking the Rangeman. I've been after one for ages. It's the ultimate watch for me and I can't wait to own one. I have the GW9400 and I love it and will probably keep it. The GPR though is a different beast. All the functions with GPS and the top materials. I've seen people moan about certain things about it aswell, they forget that it's a survival watch and that's its purpose. I wanted to get away from the smart watches. Having to charge a watch seems ridiculous to me and I don't want notifications, I find them distracting, calls and texts are for my phone not my watch. Anyways thanks for your response, its great to hear from Mr Rangeman himself 😀.

@@steventhornley5373 I used to makes others think that notifications on the wrist is something you need in life, this was when Pebble came out... but as they sold out and left use users alone this makes me to now steer again to that side, am talking of the Apple and Samsung's offerings... the Fenix can do notifications but I bought it for more detailing on the maps, and I don't really carry my phone it's pointless... the GPR-B1000 is a solid watch, reliable and ready... you are going to enjoy this beast... I know all there is to know, so if you need help just throw a comment in, happy to help my friend :) Hope it lands soon, as that waiting game seems longer than normal days :-P

Hey buddy, cheers for your feedback :) So from Home Time pressing button D and selecting 'TIME (GPS)' works perfectly... does 'TIME&POSITION' work also? The usual reasons why the GPS won't work can be from this list: 1. Battery is below 2 cells 2. Timer is running 3. Sensor is running like BARO 4. You have the wrong Home City Code 5. Watch is connected to your device Let me know if turning those off helps and checking adjustments, otherwise I'll help further no trouble :)

@@griffitha5203 Has it a full battery, that's most important. So going outside, pressing button D from Home Time brings the Connection menu up... select 'TIME&POSITION' and press the crown and wait in the same place... should take 30secs to 1min max and display your coordinate with Adjusted on the display. Let me know if this works... cheers :)

I received my Rangeman today and I did some navigation test. I think this is why lots people say the watch (I mean the navigation) sucks, and I think it is not well explained in the video (however best video about this watch, thank you for your work). When you use navigation, and want to follow a route, the arrow will NOT point the route. It will only point "Start", "Goal", and the Waypoint that you have set, and you can choose between the point using botton "A". So the route is useless. For example: if you make a route with only "start" and "goal", with no waypoints, and the route start and goes 1 km in front of you, than turn 90° right and go for 1 km, than turn again 90° right and go for 1 km, making a U with the goal exactly 1 km on your right, the arrow will point to your right, it will point to the goal, colpletely ignoring the route. That's why it's important to make a smart use of waypoints, and why when do free use of gps, with no uploaded route and you use backtrack it will only point the start, cause there are not waypoint.

Cheers for your comment :) The Rangeman GPR-B1000 is more focused on a much longer distance... the compass bearing is all that's needed especially if you have a map. If hiking over say 15km's and it's full with paths and the such, then the GPR isn't for this type of navigation... its primary focus is to point to your goal, or to start with a direct distance... the map is for reference to see roughly how far you're between points/point memos and when using back track it'll draw the line travelled thicker. Those who don't rate this watch are using it like a Garmin for an example, and not using it over a longer period. Don't forget it's still using a regular G-Shock module which is much more stable than smart watch tech. Understand what it can do and not make it what it can't. You'll appreciate it when there comes a time when you'll the most faith in it, as with smart watches, they love to excite you by crashing or freezing!

@@WatchUP69MrRangeman Thank you for your answer. I know that it isn't a Garmin, and I'm HAPPY it isn't a Garmin, it's not what I'm looking for. I really like the battery life, and even in the city streets I had no problem to receive GPS signal. I really love it, my comment was just to explain something to some peolpe that could expect a way of navigation like google map. I think that it's very important to know how to use the equipment you have, and thank you again for your amazing tutorial, if you know how to use the Rangeman it can be very effective, so I think it's important to make a smart use of waypoints, and for the backtrack it's very important to use "point memory" (maybe that's why you can set so many point, 60). Than I like very much the screen, so clearand of course, the built. I would buy it again 1000 times.

I even got a few comments saying I should stop lying and tell the truth as I must be getting paid... well the comment section from real users came in and it just shows how many just love their GPR's... quite recently Garmin got hacked and their apps where not connecting... so I asked how those who moaned saying the Fenix is a better watch, they didn't want to make a comment... so like I said to them, it's not a smart watch, but what it can do is something it won't stop doing... it has now sell by date. Just received mine yesterday. Thank you so much for this amazing tutorial. About navigation I still have questions though : A) when you have a road set with S and G and way points 1,2,3, when you use backtrack I understand G becomes S and S becomes G. What about waypoints ? Do 1 and and 3 switch to 3 and 1, with 2 staying 2 ? B) once you engage backtrack, if you change your mind can you apply backtrack again to reverse to the initial road ?

Hey buddy, just seen your comment, so sorry for the delay... yes, that's how it works, and you can use track back anytime as you mentioned. Now I posted on my community page a little while ago in the summer, of a boat trip I did, using the GPR-B1000 to track us, and made point memos to mark where the locks were, so basically could aim at the right moment when someone else has opened them LML but the wrist shot shows what back track looks like, also note the line is thicker on the path you've taken, while the thin line is what's to cover ahead... for longer journeys the map gives you a good idea, but on short 5km walks, it's not really showing much. Cheers :)
