A water birth AT a hospital?? That's something I'd REALLY consider. Giving birth far from a facility prepared for horrible scenarios has been a fear for me, but I can imagine how much more comfortable (for the person giving birth) a water birth must be. I love this and would love more info about it.

You are right to worry about childbirth because despite what the crunchy granola people say, it still can be incredibly dangerous even though it’s “natural” and we were “made for it.” I had 2 very dangerous labors myself. Although I used pain relief in the form of epidural which I highly recommend btw, if you are into a water birth setting this can be a better way to do that since you are still in the hospital in case something goes wrong.
@potato1084
@potato1084 Жыл бұрын
@@ashleighsparkle8810 There is so much misinformation in this one comment 😂😂 1) Dangerous births are highly dependent on the woman. The fact you had 2 isn’t the norm at all and you may have a condition. 2) Get an epidural if you need it but avoid it if you can bear the pain because it really slows labour down and stops you from being able to get in positions where the baby can come out faster. Recovery is also slower and I know many women who feel long term pain from the injection site or have it not work properly.

I have PTSD from a traumatic experience at a hospital, so this would be such a wonderful option for me if I ever decide to have children. I’d always worried about having a negative reaction to a hospital bed if I had to be in one again, so I think that the non-traditional setting would be a much less stressful environment to give birth in while still being in the safety of a hospital in case of complications. So glad this is an option!

I know these facilities are rare but where I live (German city) we have a so called birthing house that’s directly attached to a hospital. I was in a tub for part of my labor. It helped immensely with the pain. I almost fell asleep, it was so wonderful. I wasn't allowed to stay in there, though. I was so upset when I had to get back in that stupid hospital bed, with monitors and tubes strapped to me. Honestly, the worst part of my labor was having nurses/doctors constantly poking and prodding me, and telling me what I could or couldn't do. It seemed like it was their goal to make me as uncomfortable as possible.

You can still do this! You would have to advocate for yourself, but you can get in and out about 15 minutes on the monitor 30 minutes in the tub if everything looks OK. There will be pushback less because of risk and more because it is a but more work for the nurses. But your pushing a whole darn human out of your lady parts be inconvenient AF and proud of it if this is what you want. I was "high risk" with my daughter and still got intermittent monitoring. I got bullied out of the shower with scare tactics and regret being so passive and not pushing back as i really affected how I felt about my birth experience later

I'm so glad you keep your patients fed during the process. Someone I know gave birth and their ignorant doctor told them they couldn't eat ANYTHING while giving birth because "it would hurt the baby," so the doctor starved them the whole birth.

I had a water birth with only 1 of my 6 deliveries (other hospital's didn't have the option, I couldn't do a water birth with my preemie and my last one the sonogram showed extra huge head and shoulders so they were afraid of the shoulders getting caught). By far, hands down, BEST labor was my water birth! Pain was significantly less and I also didn't have the anxiety I had with all the others. I kept waiting for the "terrible part" of labor during my water birth and it never came. After I delivered her I looked at the nurse and was like "THAT was labor?! It already over? I did it? Done?" I was in disbelief lol! That is how different it was compared to the rest!

wish my hospital offered this I found out about a facility covered by my insurance too late into my pregnancy to be accepted and it's also 25 min from the hospital I know that's not far for many but in an emergency every second counts imo. maybe next pregnancy I'll try to find one cause omg any cramp or pain I get straight to the shower warm ass water and it goes away feels so good

It depends on how risky the labour is, and some doctors may have different thoughts on what risk they think a patient should take. Obviously it absolutely sucks not being able to eat or drink properly, but it’s done to keep mom and baby safe. Anytime a surgery is scheduled, the patient typically needs to fast for 8-12hrs if they’re going to be put to sleep, and if the patient doesn’t follow this then their surgery gets cancelled because eating even a single slice of toast can raise the risk of vomiting and aspirating while unconscious (and unconscious people have no gag reflex or ability to clear their own airway). So when a doc says no food or water for mom, it’s so that if something happens then mom has a higher chance of being okay if she needs emergency surgery. After the labour when the concern of needing emergency surgery is past, mom can eat and drink. In the video she did also say that only the women with very low risk pregnancies were allowed to do it, so that might be why they were allowed to eat and drink as well. It’s a risk for mom and the doctor to take though, so not every doctor will allow that risk to be taken, and not every mom will want to take the risk even if it’s an incredibly low risk.

Why couldn’t you have food and drink? Even if the hospital don’t provide that sort of things there usually a cafeteria I would have sent my husband to buy something.

@@emikookime1849C sections don't require the mother to be put to sleep; they haven't for years. They use local anesthesia which is completely unaffected by whether or not you ate. Not being allowed to eat during labor is an old medical practice that simply hasn't been updated in most places, but that seems to be a lot of women's medicine.

If I had gotten to my midwife early enough in labor, I think I would’ve opted for a water birth. But with me only getting 1 of the 3 midwives - instead of all 3- and I got there when I was at an 8, I had enough time to shower til I was a 10 and push him out on the bed 😅😆 I love your videos. It’s so nice to see someone who loves her profession AND her patients. God bless you, keep doing it 💚

I was not allowed to eat during my ENTIRE labor. I ate the night before coming to the hospital. I got there at 5am and baby was born around 3am the next day. So, I didn't eat for nearly two days, during labor. And NO ONE in the hospital at any point would just let me eat. It was TORTURE. Thank you for letting these mamas eat.

I had a water birth at home and it was a fantastic experience, would highly recommend. My local hospital didn’t do water births so that was a big factor in choosing a home birth. Everything went super smoothly. I went into labour just before noon, my birth team showed up after lunch and my son was born at 5ish that evening. It was relaxing and I was able to just let myself open with the contractions instead of tensing up. I was sad when we moved out of that house because it held such a good memory of my birthing experience.
