Allen, there are absolutely more ways than one to skin this cat. My method has worked really well for me over a number of years but I am glad you shared your method to give others insight into other options.

I'm a big fan of this setup. It's well thought out and nicely executed. I'm surprised there's any negative comments at all, lol. Good job sir! Side note, you did a great job producing and editing the video. Lighting is good, music volume is good, I can tell you used a microphone to capture your voice. I subscribed and I'm looking forward to your future videos!

Man I really like your system. Your tank is very close to the dimensions I want but an not sure I can fit into my basement. Everything in your system is so well planned and clean. I will get there one day hopefully soon. How are the anthias doing? Be very careful they are jumpers. I learned when I came home and found my anthias in a tank they were not in the day before.
@ReefBum
@ReefBum 9 жыл бұрын
Thanks! It was a lot of hard work to get it the way I wanted but it is certainly worth it over the long haul....makes it much easier to maintain the tank. Anthias are doing great! Should be adding some Chromis the beginning of next week.

Correct me if I'm wrong but This method only works if you don't remove more water than is in the sump? With my tank I need to change more tank water than the sump holds for a water change. If I drain my tank from the sump I can only drain as much as my overflow level allows. Is that right ? I love your setup.
@ReefBum
@ReefBum 2 жыл бұрын
@@WinsteadSpeedShop Yes, it is limited to the amount of water that can be drained from the sump.

Nice ! Do you have a preference for Bulk Heads & unions & valves ? Which brands ? Are the schedule 40 shut off valves OK ?
@ReefBum

I used Hayward products on my last build and I have no complaints. And I do use the sched 40 shut off valves but not in situations where there is high pressure.

Looks great! How did you decide on the size of the hole to cut for the bulkhead? Was it based from the plumbing size of the pump?
@ReefBum
@ReefBum Жыл бұрын
You want to make sure the bulkhead fits snug in the hole so the size of the hole depends on the size of the bulkhead.
@PaulFraser4
@PaulFraser4 Жыл бұрын
@@ReefBum Excellent, I’m using a COR-20 as a return and the intake is 1” so, I based the bulkhead off that size of pipe and in turn the hole for the bulkhead

From your RODI Unit to the RODI water reservoir , I understand that the float valve closes up when the water gets to a certain level but doesn’t your RODI unit and the 1/4” line to the resevoir float valve get a substantial amount of pressure as it gets backed up? I use a small RO Buddie system that comes from my utility sink and I fear that the unit and or the line would start springing leaks from the pressure as it would get backed up once my RODI Water Resevoir filled up and the float valve closed up. Thanks, MROz
@ReefBum
@ReefBum 6 жыл бұрын
With my setup there is no pressure and thus I have not experienced any leaking.

By pumping out directly from your sump aren't you limiting the amount of water change you can do in an extreme situation?
@ReefBum
@ReefBum 8 жыл бұрын
+Michael F Yes, you are right but the sump is the best place for this type of regular water change setup since that is where my return pump is. In an extreme situation I can always pull some water out from the display...of course I hope it never comes to that !!

@ReefBum

My total water volume is 250 gallons and at this point I am changing out 25 gallons (10%) every other week. I had always been doing 10% every week but I recently had dinos and it seemed that water changes were contributing to the problem. I have been dino free for awhile but I will continue to do the bi-weekly water changes and see how it goes.

Marko - I know this is old but I had to say it: You are a typical, Trump hating liberal (tell me I'm wrong) - Never mind that this is a high quality upload, well narrated, with high quality graphics and editing. Never mind that his fish room is IMMACULATE, well thought out, and his equipment is top of the line, down to the most expensive DOUBLE GASKET bulkheads one can buy (These bulkheads come with a thicker inner gasket, and thinner outer gasket, See 4:16). He even says it during the float valve install, "gasket INSIDE". Instead, you nitpick the most innocuous detail, to what end? Did it make you feel better about yourself? Did you really watch posts from this channel and think, "this guy doesn't know what he's doing"? Don't let your hateful heart blind you from seeing what's really going on.

my opinion you did way to much work for this system you have a apex you should have just thrown a DOS onto the system and set it up to do you water change for you a lot easier you can do daily water changes and it works great. like I said my opinion
@ldballoon4
@ldballoon4 8 жыл бұрын
+Allen Jarrett Using a return pump is more efficient and faster when doing W.C. in his set up. He is multitasking his return pump smartly. The DOS would not totally free up his outlined diagram as diagram as he would only save the last run of pipe from the frag tank to the sink and one ball valve.
