That has got to be the most generous ,comprehensive demonstration of any medium from any artist I have ever seen online , I’ve only been searching for 12 years . Why is watercolour the cheapest to buy when it’s the most technically difficult. I’ve mastered oil, pastel,acrylic,mixed media . Water colour is my nemesis , I think you have helped me conquer it. Thankyou so much you lovely artist. You selflessly shared everything

I wholeheartedly agree! I was absolutely mesmerized from beginning to end and thoroughly soaking up every gem that Mr. Coney so generously and patiently shared with us. I happened upon this video last night and was delighted that the painting was a seascape--the thumbnail didn't match the content at all. I agree with other comments about the camera work, but I can't say enough positive things about the art and tutorial. OMG. I feel privileged to have gotten to watch this! Mr. Coney is a MASTER. I wish I could just hang in his studio and watch him work for months. Mr. Coney--THANK you for sharing your wonderful skill with all of us! I will be watching this video over and over.

Okay, so it was just one of those nights -- woke up at 3:30 a.m. and couldn't get back to sleep. I heard a "bleep" on my cell phone and checked it out. This tutorial showed up, so I clicked on it, noticed the length and figured, "Hmmm...I'll just watch til I fall back to sleep." NO WAY!!!! NO WAY!!! I watched you do the entire video, mesmerized -- you carefully explained each step (THANKS FOR THE GREAT TIPS -- on proper use of frisket to avoid those pesky blank spots -- and also on viscosity of pigment -- SO VALUABLE!!). Yes, I watched it and totally absorbed all of it. BUT IT STILL JUST LOOKS LIKE MAGIC! WHAT THE???? By the time you finished the head on the first seagull I was thrown into a kind of ecstatic fit. There was no going back to sleep for me. BUT TOTALLY WORTH IT! Paul, I just can't thank you enough for sharing your amazing talent and wisdom in such a palatable format. I've got my paints ready and I'm raring to go!

What are people talking about? I could actually see the colour mixing and the brush strokes due to that zoom. You did great Paul! I learnt so much from this session! Masterclass! Loved the shadows and the light play a lot, especially in a painting where the contrast is not too apparent! I just loved it.

This was such a treat to watch! I learned so much from your thought process and seeing your actual brushwork. My favorite parts are the sparkles and the glow of the ochre on the gulls. I also like the initial pale gray wash to tone the paper so the sparkles would pop that much more (I would have been afraid to glaze over the gulls). Can't wait to get painting!

Thank you for this video. I've painted in oils all my life and have always wanted to attempt watercolor-but I've been afraid to because the techniques are so opposite to oils. So much of the lighter areas are by omission. You have given me some courage to try watercolor.

I have revived tired old masking fluid by adding a couple of drops of household ammonia to the bottle and stirring it in gently til I get an even mix. Works very well

This was a really great tutorial. Thanks so much. I love painting water and reflections, but I learned some excellent new techniques. I’m looking forward to tackling a subject like this myself, and putting what I learned into practice. Just one suggestion for next time, easy on the super close ups. It’s much more comfortable to watch what you’re doing from a bit further back.

You can mask over already painted areas? And this won't remove the light wash? Holy cow that's a game changer. Thank you for the wonderful demonstration of your process. So very helpful in so many ways.

Thanks Annette, remember it will fade the pigment slightly but not completely, so take into account a slight reduction of colour/tonal value. I do have another "trick"concerning this technique that I will demonstrate on a future video !😁
