Should you Check your Water Heater? Yes you should and you will possibly prevent a flood in your home by periodically checking the most common leak points on a Hot Water Tank. Most homeowners can do this themselves and catch a small leak before it becomes a large leak as most leaks tend to start out small and progressively get worse so it's very important to check your tank. Hi Jensen, just an update. Watching your video helped me to better understand how these devices work. Unfortunately, my electric water heater was too old and it was necessary to replace it. When the plumber got here and he told me about the replacement I checked with him the pipes on top and asked him to open the upper box with the elements (everything was wet and rusty inside and it was the same outside at the bottom of the cover), things I would have never heard about before!! When I bought this apartment 4 years ago I never knew how old this water heater was, it just looked old but it always worked well. Then the leakage was going underneath that part of the laminated floor (fortunately only a few inches got damaged). Ohh well..., it was not cheap but at least problem solved.

Well l hope the internal threads were okay & you got it fixed up. I’ve seen many where the tank had to be replaced because of corroded inlet or outlet tank threads. Thanks for sharing!

Great job! Mine must have a pin hole near the top element or threats that no longer seal. No other video talked about that. Thanks!! 8:21

Thanks, glad it helped! I’ve seen a few pin holes in tanks over the years but over 90% of the time it’s corroded threads at inlet/outlet or elements.

Which water heater you think is better, an electric water one or a tankless one, for a small apartment with 1 to 2 people living in it. Thank you, gorgeous man!!!

Thank you! great question, I have found that tankless water heaters work well if they run on propane or natural gas but if they are electric they require a lot of power to run. So either a storage tank type electric or tankless gas powered would probably be best for an apartment like yours.

My electric water heater is leaking from the upper element. It appears it's coming from behind the gasket. We are from Englewood, Florida

Welcome, thanks for watching! If it’s a flanged element you can probably change it or have it changed. If it’s a threaded element you may be able to change it but the majority of the time the tank will need to be replaced.
