the power rating of solar panels are tested in what is called STC (standard test conditions) which is the best scenario the panel can be in. So the highest peak output will range between 90-95% of what they say. In normal conditions they’re aroung 80-85%

Solar panels are rated “STC” standard test conditions, 1000W/sq meter of sunlight and 77F air temp, with a perfect 90 degree incident angle. Not a goood representation of reality. Good work this is fun to watch!

There is plenty of water in the air and usually some wind, check into methods to harvest water and energy at point of use; create limited distribution between groups of cells so if one is low it can pull from the next closest one. In particular, I think there are designs of small air collectors/concentrators that also have some amount of water as a byproduct - some experimentation should yield better water quantity results; the power is a simpler problem that's been solved many times already. Once those are solved, then you can eliminate paper waste by installing bidets as *all* the components of a smart toilet (heater, airflow, water, music, etc) are contained in the *seat* since the rest is made of porcelain. I investigated this for camping, to improve our latrine when we're out for weeks at a time during bow season (I don't hunt but I'd rather be outside, any weather, always). Turns out for a single unit I could get the unit cost down to about 200 bucks; if someone wanted to buy 5 or 10 that is probably a lot less and something maybe even a smaller sponsor could cover. Blame the algorithm that this didn't show up on my sidebar sooner lol I try to stay subbed but YT limits subscriptions or at least gets real flaky about them once you get over 800-900 channels (pretty easy to do these days).

You can also improve the efficiency of your existing solar cells by using fluorescent gels/sheets over them as well as a diffractor (similar to the sheets you see over office lights to scatter them). Remember, solar cells don't care about heat (unless they get hot, then their efficiency starts dropping fast) they are only interested in certain spectra of light as well as the concentration of it. Upgrade them with better cooling if need be, but do the other mods first as they'll up the overall conversion capacity/efficiency of the available light quality.

the bidet looks like it would fit, they are meant to be very adjustable by turning those circles. maybe drill a new hole if not?

Flipping the Toilet sign was EPIC!!! How do you prevent the new Filter system from blowing up again? Dude...I have a Tushy!!! They work great! There is a small learning curve it just how to use it....but I just love mine....Plus having a clean ass is just the best....way better than using TP....I only use TP to dry off with.....+ You will never want to use any other toilet!!! Glad you still remember how to ride! The trails look great! I'm way jealous of your SRAM transmission....my bike does not have a UDH ;-(. Thanks Brian!

We will just drain ALL the water out of the well system and leave it wide open during the winter from now on. HOPEFULLY that will keep it from blowing up.

Hey Brian why don't you put pressure relief valve before your filters that way if the pressure starts to build it will go off and save the filter system.

The number one thing we need to do is actually have the system DRAINED when we're not there during the winter!! That was our big mistake. I'll get some electric pipe tape stuff to keep things warm when we're there and I think that will help us make it through.

This is so fun! I started doing this down in the mountains of Santa Barbara a long time ago and have lived off grid for 24 years, these days I make a living off of water systems and off grid power systems and mountain biking is my most favorite hobby. On a road trip I would love to stop in for a short camping trip and a bike ride and my advice and knowledge is always free.

They make a pex removal tool that makes it super simple to disconnect fittings rather than muscling them off 👌🏻. I think they have one that has multiple sizes or you can get the one for the specific size you use if you just have one diameter pipe.

My friend works for a solar comany in the area and he was recently trying to sell a system that someone had installed to be off grid and decided that it didnt make sense for them and went on grid instead, not sure if he already sold it but it could be a good deal for you guys. I found it, it's just the battery system and was 81k new selling for 55k, I'm not familiar but that probably a huge system bigger than what you need.

@nostr8ghtlinzs596
@nostr8ghtlinzs596 Жыл бұрын
@@bkxc at least 10 to 15 KW, have you tried looking at wind power map? You know all about costing, I'd go smaller, since you power and small camp site, then as needed you can put another 1 or 2. you have look at spacing along you highest ridge. smaller would give you power you need now, with growth. I do not think you want your exact location public yet, but if you like PM a region and I will see what I can find out.

The trials are coming along. I know you've done some hard work out there but the trial design is kind of poor. You should really ask Seth to fly out and ride the trails. I say this as constructive criticism, you guys are Novice trail builders. You've never built BMX jumps (at spots like Sheep Hills or Twin Palms or the Mini Glen) nor have you built BMX berms at tracks like Orange Y or Coal Canyon. These are the things that early MTB riders have done and why they were so successful at building MTB trails in the early 90's. Today you have a handful of professional companies that install this stuff but if you don't want to hire a pro you should really take the route of the early 90's MTB riders. Donate your time at a Bike Park or BMX track to learn how. Your turns come up too fast without any features to slow the rider you have zero jumps and theres really no flow. I'm don't trying to get you down I just think back to when I was 12 and never built a bike jump before and they sucked. Then I think of when I was older, and had dozens of spots leveled by the city, and how good the later jumps were. Its night and day. Building trails and jumps and berms takes time and repetition.

Now, remember, when you shut it down for the winter. DRAIN EVERYTHING! Pressure tank, filters, all traps . . . Including the toilet trap, many forget that, or you'll be replacing the china throne next season. And yes, the foam ring is much better than old wax rings. As I've said before, insulation is your friend, don't be afraid to use it. Overall, KUDOS on the work done at the vacation property! Maybe find a local maintenance guy to check on it from time to time, especially winter. A sled ride up and back, just for a eyes on once a month or so for a heads up on any issues.
