Think of the Salt as Soap. You suds it up and rinse it off. After flushing there's no salt left doing anything. Your water shouldn't taste salt, if it does, rinse longer. People with salt intake restrictions should have NO worries about ingesting salt when rinsed properly. Use the full amount of Salt ( soap) that's recommended, or it won't Regen correctly and need to be done very soon again. You also don't add salt from time to time as some people think. Remember the Salt is a cleaner, not what softens the water.

Used your method just now, but found mixing with water...salt doesn't completely mix well, so I kept a spatula with me to help get the salt out of the solution from my container. Additionally, don't use 'too much' water, as the first one I did as mentioned with the water, and the second I took my time at pouring the second container into our larger softener, but before all the salt was emptied, water came right up to the top, even after making sure all water was expelled, so I think next time I'll have water with me, pour it in by hand, and as it clumps up use a small amount of water to get the salt washed down, then continue. It's currently coming out (pencil thickness amount) for the 30 minutes as I write this, so a big thanks for the video, as I'll probably relate to the video each time, as I find it's a good idea to feel no mistakes will be made, if checking with the video annually, or ever how often one needs to regenerate. This time, 1 1/2 months and it was due, last year I got two months before the need arose, but as mentioned, it depends on the hardness of the water in the area!

Great video!, I want one of these. Let me ask you, do you know how many times we can do this regeneration process before needing to change the entire tank? Or maybe there is a way to add the resin needed for the tank to properly work?. I am just looking ahead, wouldn't want to change this tank very often.

I just bought an RV with this but with the salt caddy extension does that mean I just but the salt in the caddy and how does that affect regeneration?

Thanks for the video. We have the same water softener. When the salt starts clogging, just tap the container and it will clear the spout which will allow you to add the remaining salt.

Don't you want to back flush the tank first before you add the salt?

Good demonstration. I have stored my water softener (drained) over the summer and I now want to put it back into use. I read the instructions for using Sani-System to sanitize the contents before starting to use it again. Do you bother to do this after storage? They also suggest backflushing and regenerating. I did a regeneration before storage so it seems unnecessary to do it again?

When you are traveling between RV parks/Campgrounds, do you empty the water out of the softener or leave it in and just screw the caps back in to prevent water from spilling out?

On both the 'in' and 'out' side of the softener tank, it is always a good idea to use a 90° brass 'L' (ell). This reduces the stress on the hose/fitting connections at the softener.
