In this video you'll see the step by step process of how I paint a portrait in a mixed media painting technique with watercolors as a base, colored pencils for refining details in the portrait and gouache for the shimmering golden patterns in the background and on the dress.
I was inspired by Gustav Klimt painting and the style of Great Gatsby/ 1920's fashion style.
Suplies
Paper: Arches, Hot pressed, 100% cotton
Paint: For the skin tones I have used Yellow ochre, Buff Titanium and some Naples Yellow. For background, Prussian blue and indigo. Gold gouache from Winsor & Newton + Gold acrylics from Kreul.

I just find it so relaxing to watch your process. In this one I recognised your creatively in trying new techniques and how this helps you to learn. A very beautiful portrait Negin. What was the glove you were wearing? 😀😘🙏

Thank you 🥰♥️ I highly believe in learning by doing and experimenting when it comes to art 😊 The gloves I’m using are primarily made for digital art but I like to use when painting traditionally too. You can search for Art or artist glove. I bought mines from Amazon

Yes, you have to trust the process 😄 especially with watercolors. There is almost always an ugly stage

Beautiful painting. Were you able to remove the masking fluid? I know you mentioned it didn't go as planned.

Thanks 😊 I could partially. Only in areas where it wasn’t covered with gouache and acrylic gold. forgot to include it in the video when editing 🙈

Thank you very much for sharing with us the beautiful, inspiring process of the entire creation. Can I ask for info - what masking tape did you use when booking - taping the perimeter of the head to then paint the circles on the background?

Thank you 😊 glad you enjoyed 🙏It’s washi tape, they are less strong than regular masking tapes hence better for this process. I would however recommend heating the tapes with a hairdryer before removing so it doesn’t tear up the paper.
