Thank you for the encouragement. I am 65 and just starting. I started a mini journal, and try each day to paint a page. I was inspired by your valentine ideas, and painted cards for my 8 grandkids. I found this video in a very low spot in life and in art. It was one of the most reassuring and realistic experiences I’ve had in a while. It helped to make me feel better and to make me smile. I really needed those words, in your awesomely calm voice. I started watercolor at the start of or quarantine. I’ve been mostly home since March 16th. I try to paint everyday, but I’ve become discouraged the last couple of days. I feel like I take one step forward and two back. I constantly compare myself to others, and stress about finding “my style”. You’ve given me the encouragement to keep going. Thank you.

Hi Ellen, your voice and words are quite soothing, it’s as though you made time stand still, no rush, no being critical, take time to paint, have a goal, every paint moment adds up I guess, half an hour here and there makes hours and eventually days, the more we paint, the more we get to know our likes and dislikes. I keep trying to paint, sometimes it’s ok and I can live with it, sometimes it’s like whipping cream, you can overdo it and it’s yuk! I’ll keep on at it as there’s not much else I can do, and I don’t like being lazy doing nothing so yeah Ellen, I will nip to the table where my paints are, sit down and do something different! I spent a whole year in hospital, having strokes, one after another! it effected my sight and my left side 8 strokes altogether. Before that, I had a great job as a foster carer, baking and cooking from scratch trying to be healthy but sometimes being healthy doesn’t prevent a predisposition which can’t be operated on but at least I’ve had 18 months now without a stroke, my son and his family moved in with me to look after me about 16 months ago and they are like angels to me, I can’t walk very far but they take me out to the park in my wheelchair when the weather is nice. I appreciate these tutorials and enjoy trying them out, even though it hardly ever looks like the teachers example, I’m good with crafts, I’ve used acrylic as before which I found quite easy and painted a few nice pieces but watercolour is quite a dreamy effect which is soft and actually draws me in, unlike any other medium so had to give it a go, I started with watercolour pencils but didn’t get the effect I wanted so bought some paint palettes from Amazon , now I’m using tube paints and it seems to be making a positive difference! For anyone else who is finding watercolours a challenge, join me in my boat and we can ride the rapids at the same time. This time next year, we will have mastered at least 1 technique! All the best in your painting, Godspeed and good imaginations ✨✨✨✨❤️🇬🇧❤️🌹I’ve been trying to dosing a rose for 4 months now and still not painted one that looks anything even like a flower😳🥴😂😂😂😂 lim hoping by this time next year, I can paint roses with my eyes closed 😩😜all the best everyone! ❤️❤️❤️

I never thought I could do anything more than a stick figure and now I’m painting bouquets! I try to just enjoy what I can do and compare my art to my own from previous months. Love your art!!! Thanks Ellen. Yup, I truly suck at flowers, but I do some anyway. All I have time for are quick 5×7 card sized. I added a tuft of spikey lavender and ewww. Then I repeated it a couple times so now it's a design element not a mistake. 😉 lol.
