I collect rainwater through the winter months. Unfortunately, it's an insufficient amount except to water my most delicate of plants. I put tubs of shredded cardboard or collected leaves outside to collect rainwater and use as worm bedding. Works like a charm!

Most municipal water systems are using chloramine as a disinfectant. It's a combination of chlorine and ammonia. Unfortunately, it does not dissipate by airing it out. You need to add a commercial aquarium/pond product that will treat for both chlorine and chloramine. I'm a fish breeder, so I have to treat water constantly for my aquariums. I use a dechlorinating product called Prime, which is safe, effective, and really easy to use. Amazon carries it, of course, but so do most pet stores.

Only municipal water supplies have chlorine and cloramine. Artesian, drilled, dug or a drilled point wells do not.

What about using chlorine remover like they do in fish tanks?
