I've added a backing vocal and a bit of lead ukulele to my basic strummed uke and vocals, and I've messed around with the video editing a little too. I hope it's not too distracting!
Many people pick this is their favourite Ray Davies/Kinks song. It's definitely one of mine: wonderful lyrics and a beautiful melody and arrangement, all working together so well. Like 'Sunny Afternoon', 'A Well Respected Man' and 'Autumn Almanac', it's a very English song. Perhaps too English to be appreciated in America in the 1960s?
'Waterloo Sunset' was released as a single by The Kinks in May 1967. It reached number 2 on the British charts in mid 1967 (it failed to dislodge the Tremeloes' "Silence Is Golden" from the number 1 position). It was also a top 10 hit in Australia, New Zealand and most of Europe. In North America, however, it failed to chart.
