My Waterpik Cordless Plus water flosser lost pressure one day about six months after purchasing. It was part of the water flossers pump intake valve that failed. This video shows how I made a temporary repair that lasted about 10 months before it failed again.
UPDATE: Instead of throwing the flosser in the recycle bin, I made a permanent DIY repair using a piece of plastic cut from a disposable container, which is shown in the video below, part 2. The custom cut valve flap ended up being a long term fix for the Waterpik.
-- Part 2, Easy, Homemade Valve Flap: • How I fixed My WaterPi...
I believe the original Waterpik Cordless Plus model shown in the video may have been replaced with an updated model. Here is that updated model as well as an advanced version. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

My WF-03W was not pumping after sitting on the shelf for a year. Nothing was clogged, I could feel air blowing out the tip. Wracked my brain, tried a bunch of things... eventually sucked on the nozzle and voila! - started working properly.

Thanks for the help. It seemed to work pretty well for a little while then went back to the same problem. I found if you simply leave the water fill flap on the reservoir open when you're using it eliminates the back pressure and works continuously for as long as you need it.
@Craig285

I found the easiest fix. I ended up drilling a very small hole at the top of the reservoir to reduce the water pressure causing the issue. Works like a champ again. Hope this helps .

Thanks, this fixed the issue! This is the second waterpik. The first one occasionally had this issue but would eventually work correctly again(maybe the flap never got completely stuck), but this new one never got pass its first malfunction, so I knew I'd have to disassemble it to see. Glad I checked first because I probably would have overlooked that thin little flapper. Thanks again!

You're welcome. Another viewer mentioned some success with shaking the flosser to get it working again. In part 2, I replace that flexible check valve flap with a piece of plastic cut from a yogurt container. So far it's working great and I'm confident that it will last longer than the original part.

@@BudgetPhil It's quite amazing how needlessly cheap some companies make their products. It would have cost virtually nothing more to make that flap a fraction of a millimeter thicker without impeding the water flow, or to make it fit more snuggly to prevent it sliding out of place over time. Smh

If it fails again you can replace the valve flap with a piece of plastic cut from a yogurt container or something similar. In part 2, I show how that was done. It's been about six months since I replaced the factory valve flap with the custom-made flap and it still works great.

I have the same unit. Trouble with mine is that the water reservoir develops a negative pressure that the pump can’t overcome (until I crack open the fill cap - after which it works fine - until the vacuum builds up….) any suggestions?
@BudgetPhil
@BudgetPhil Жыл бұрын
I'm surprised mine doesn't do that, because I can't find a way for air to get in to replace the water that's pumped out of the reservoir. Seems like it would need a vent but don't see one. Surely the designers thought of this problem. I've never experienced it, but the cap on my reservoir doesn't seal very well which probably lets air in. If mine developed that problem and I couldn't find a vent on the tank, it would probably get a small hole drilled at the top of the reservoir. Seems kind of extreme though. I don't know what the best solution would be. Thank you for informing us about this issue.

@BudgetPhil

Hi, I was unable to find any online but you can make your own. The flapper eventually failed again on mine and I had to cut one out of a plastic yogurt container lid which is still working well to this day. I show how I did it in a separate video. There should be a link to that video in the description of this video. I believe the factory flappers aren't quite as stiff as they need to be.

Hi! I have the exact same watepik and i accidentally burned the charger (it was for 110 voltios and i plugged it on a 220 voltios). Do you happen to know how may i charge it with some other charger? a friend of mine told me to grab a mobile charger and weld it with the waterpik original cable, do you see that as an option? thanks in advanced!
@BudgetPhil
@BudgetPhil 4 жыл бұрын
No , the output voltage and current of mobile chargers is too high. The output of my flosser's charger says 3 volts and 100 milliamps of current. I would take the burned up charger to an electronics technician and ask them if they have an old power adapter that would work. They could probably order one if needed. Then the wires can be spliced, positive to positive and negative to negative , with appropriate hardware.

@@BudgetPhil After fixing it with your method it worked great for 2 weeks then the problem seemed to resurface. Thanks for the info. Mine failed again also, but after a few months. I cut out a piece of plastic from a yogurt container to replace the collapsed flapper and it worked. I'm not sure what the problem could be. If the tip came with a blockage or defect, that may be fixed by changing the tip for another. It might be that the pump needs to be primed with water. I think this priming can be done by simply blowing air into the reservoir tank. I would probably put my mouth over the opening for filling the tank and try to pressurize it some to force water into the pump.

@@BudgetPhil Much appreciated, I think all your viewers would benefit. The failure was a bit premature on both instances, so knowing how to get a spare part would help all. Its under Waterpik's warranty during first period, but your dissection of the failure suggest poor materials and could happen again to the replacement. In fact, your DIY part could be superior to the factory part. Maybe the new production runs have changed the faulty part.

That sounds logical. Maybe the water got into the power switch. I wonder if it could be dried out with a fan and sealed with something like silicon, if that turned out to be the problem. I think the switch mechanism may be located in the battery compartment. Perhaps the partition that separates the pump housing from the battery compartment needs to be resealed.
