The peristaltic pump action is gentle, low shear and created by compressing the hose between rotating shoes or rollers. In between each pass of a roller, the tube recovers to create a vacuum and draws in fluid. This simple dynamic effect requires no seal or valves and the fluid is totally contained within the hose, separated from the pump. Watson-Marlow pumps clearly outperform other pumps types such as lobe, progressive cavity or diaphragm pumps.
Peristaltic pumps retain the fluid completely within the hose or tube and have no valves, seals or glands, they can be used for the accurate metering, aggressive, abrasive and viscous fluids without becoming blocked. As the tubing is the only wearing part, and can be quickly replaced without dismantling the pump, maintenance is simple and can be completed in less than a minute - offering users a cost-effective pumping solution and value for life.
