There’s a joke among pilots- how do you figure out if someone is a pilot? They tell you. The joke being that flying is always in a pilot’s mind and it seems to always come up in every conversation. I’m a pilot, and I love the style and history of pilot watches… I wear them because the design language speaks to me. It’s also a conversation starter as it at least suggests “I’m a pilot” without me being part of the cliche and actually talking about it. A watch- knowing what time it is- is very important in flying. But with panel mounted clocks, GPS, etc a watch is just a redundancy. A pilot style ‘flieger’ is nice because of the bigger size and legibility at a glance even if it’s bumpy or you’re busy hands on the controls… but also not necessity. Just style and taste really… Enjoyed the video, nice take on it 👍

Love the video and beautiful watch. Normal day to day I wear a Fitbit myself and when flight instructing I wear a analogue Boeing style watch for the same reason James mentioned and for teaching it.

Im very sorry but the mojawe desert one is hands down the way to go. The black one doesnt hold a candle to it. Loved the video though. Nice touch flashing that cartier galbee for a second, as its origin is also in aviation.

Most commercial pilots I fly with (including myself) wear Apple Watches because of lot of functionality like auto setting in a new time zone or count down timers and alarms. That said, in the military I wore a real “pilots watch” and so did most of my friends. Either way, there’s definitely a place for them still in the cockpit. Good video!
