Waves are making waves with their new dialogue noise reduction plugin to compete with the likes of iZotope RX. Will we be saying "I can VX that!" instead of "RX" anytime soon???.... Time will tell.

Hey, first of all, as I've been silently watching for a long time, amazing work! I'm a live event technical director and audiovisual engineer and own a post-prod (color grading and mixing) studio in France. I've been migrating to Fairlight for mixing and been looking for some videos about pros using the desktop mixing console and your videos are making such a huge service to the profession, 'cause without your careful analysis there would be absolutely no infos about it. AAF and XML are a nightmare and I truly believe Fairlight, for audio to pictures, have the ability to replace ProTools, and so I completely switched my whole facility to it. I'm currently working on 30 hours of audio I got to clean, it's archive audio recorded on camcorders through a decade without proper care or technical knowledge and it's all other the place and interviews in the most noisy places, using RX 9 advanced that I know very well and appreciate over RX 8 Advanced I was using before, but on this project, it's so clunky, there's so many things to correct, it leaves so many artifacts, the processing time is a nightmare, I cannot get rid of the damn hums in a way that doesn't leave RX trademark noise print/artifacts and reduce the damn clarity that is not so present to begin with. It's dreadful. So after watching your videos I downloaded the plugin's trial and gave it a try and compared it to the treatment I did in RX, and would you know it, I arrived to a better result with completely fine and near inaudible artifacts in a matter of stupid seconds!!!! And the clarity, it's ridiculous, it works so brilliantly and live and so simple. So I just bought it using your affiliate link, thanks for the great work, honestly, it's gonna make my life much MUCH easier, I'm am very impressed!

bought VX standard and a/b ing against klevgrand brusfi for a voiceover track. Clarity is immediately "clearer" on the noise in my room, PC & PS fans. Brusfi has more options, seems to retain more pleasing low mids maybe and does a good job in general, but Clarity standard version seems to do a good /better job with one mouse dial. Clarity after Brusfri cleans up everything.

I’ve said it in the video and replied to a lot of comments. This was a real-time test. You can use Dialogue Isolate without sending it to RX and doing an offline process. It seems to me you could use a combination of the $29 version of Clarity with a noise gate (and maybe Waves's W43) to approximate what the pro plugin is offering. So I'm not sure spending $200+ more for the pro version is worth it.

Wow, as a realtime tool, it's pretty impressive. I wonder how good it would be on different sources, for example an acoustic guitar recorded with some street noise. Also, I guess a great comparison would be about a full cleanup, without workflow restrictions (i.e. use all the tools in the RX suite), and check what gets you the best faster (or just the "best" results).

Sure you can hear how Clarity affects the voice, and yes, there are artefacts! If I had used RX in your examples, I would probably have used de-hum and later most likely dialogue-isolate, and I wouldn't have used the music, but the dialogue algorithm. It's almost as if you used your RX expertise to the advantage of Clarity. But that is certainly only a superficial impression, of course ;-) Personally, I use RX and C-suite C-vox. A dream team.

I still use RX all the time. This was just a comparison of how to quickly clean up your dialogue. I didn't notice when recording the video I had the music not dialogue algorithm set. That was my bad. For real-time, RX is stuck with Voice De-noise. If real-time isn't a requirement, then RX Spectral De-noise is much better at cleaning things up. I have a video on my channel comparing RX8 Voice De-noise to CEDAR Audio. The CEDAR does way better. It would be interesting to see how this Waves plugin does against CEDAR. There is also something to be said for the DNS8D being a rack mount 8 channel device so you don't need to rely on a laptop running your plugins in a live situation, as well...

@cwichura
@cwichura 2 жыл бұрын
@@igorsenayoutube I used Voice De-noise in real-time for months before switching to the CEDAR. In my video you see it running in real-time as well. But I don't use adaptive mode as mentioned in the video, since it wasn't smart enough to detect no signal when the gate in front of it closed. The Spectral De-noise plugin is NOT suitable for real-time, as also mentioned in the video. With all the quality settings cranked to max, it adds over two seconds of latency. Even at minimal quality settings (which is basically useless from a sound quality point of view), it has non-zero latency. Edit to add: the video I reference is on my channel, comparing RX Voice De-noise to a CEDAR DNS 8D. I missed that this was a reply in a different channel...

I noticed you've set RX's Voice De-noise to "Music", instead of "Dialogue" (better). I always end up using the Spectral Denoise feature in RX, even on voices/lectures/speakers... you have much more granular control over the algos used, especially for extremely 'dirty' recordings.

A question. Do you duck music volume so it does not compete with dialog. It seems you are not. Makes is quite distracting because on top of you reading of teleprompter and sounding robotic, background music that its not needed in teh first place is competing with your voice. I would suggest you ditch the teleprompter and speak like you normally would, which you do when you record the screen to demo. Looks and sounds much better. As for music, ither get rid of distracting and unnecessary background music, or duck it when your voice is heard. Cheers!

Appreciate the feedback. I'm not really doing anything different to some of the bigger youtubers. I'll make sure I keep an eye on the music so it is less distracting on future videos. I tend to only use music on intros and outros but it depends on the content. I don't often use a teleprompter but I did on the main intro camera. I've just watched it back again and I don't personally agree and haven't had anyone else comment on it. The main reason I use it is to make sure the script is quality, not repetitive but also keeps my editing times down so I can make more content. Does anyone else have an issue with me using the teleprompter? Thanks for the feedback Krunoslav.

@@benniknop No problem. About ducking music so it doesn't interfere with the voiceover, or dialog, if you have iZotope RX you can open up your video clip and you can even see it visually. Its pretty obvious how the dialog is burried under tones of other sound, the music. And that is what I can hear when I watch the video here. Its quite distracting and its not just me saying it, the iZotope RX or any program that can show it in spectograph can show you visually the problem. Sadly I can't post screenshots here on youtube to show you, but trust me, its there and its obvious. That is why I didn't even have to look at it, I could hear it. If you don't hear it, probably its that your "ear" is not trained... yet. If you are interested in ducking, again I can't post a screenshot here to illustrate, but here are some useful resources: The Davinci resolve release 15.1 and newer has Audio Ducking throgh Sidechain. Under Fairlight page --> Dynamics --> Compressor --> SideChain. The SideChain option now has 'Send' and 'Listen' options. You select 'Send' in Voice channel and 'Listen' for the background music channel.. You can find how to do it by screenshot in the forums here. forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=59619 Video tutorial if you prefer that. AUDIO DUCKING in Davinci Resolve kzfaq.info/get/bejne/laepi9tkms7GY6s.html And another tutorial - Audio Auto Ducking with Davinci Resolve 15 Fairlight kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oax2a66j0K-pZo0.html .............. About teleprompter. I know many youtubers, borrowing from corporate talking heads have and do use teleprompters, and most people don't comment on it. Personally to me its very obvious and takes away from authenticity of the presenter. Because its like the weather girl. You just read and at least in the weather girl scenario they try to distract us with tight skirts. My point is that if you are going to read from teleprompter or something similar, my advice is that you do not record yourself reading. I can always tell because in order for you to read, you must have a thousand yard stare, with almost no blinking and steady head so you don't lose the track of what you are reading. Its very obvious. I would suggest for the sake of authenticity, and generally more compelling presentation to simply learn those few minutes you have to say something to the camera and say it, or re.record it. You are not giving live presentation. And I know you know the topic since you don't use teleprompter for the whole duration of video. So you are just using it out of fear you won't be prepared enough, and that creates precisely that impression. I don't mind when people read the text, just when they record themselves reading the text. Show roll B while you read and when camera is back on you, act authentically and speak with authority. Cheers and good luck with your channel.

Doing Dialoge Editing for Film, sorting ,adding atmosphere etc.. I never , ever use a Plugin for real time , ever.. There isnt enough Control... Use RX as a APP with a Suite of its Modules.... I only ever use it Via Connect.. If you don't use connect, your NOT uncovering what makes RX sooooo Good. USE CONNECT..Though not sure if davinci supports it.. The round robin works with protools and Logic on Mac.. As for other App and platforms.. I can't answer.... Waves is the one size fits all , and Im not suggesting for your needs its not the perfect Plugin , with a great Algo, and suitable for your Workflow....... That is not RX... There a reason RX is use in gov/police depts for Audio Forensics... But Then Again... On some indy films (that I didnt do location on) was so bad, Not your standard, broadband noise issues, Boom hits.. No Dead cat on the Shotty on a windays day... so on and so forth... My problem is.... I don't generally do what DX editors do.. I DX edit so it sounds like ADR, Still with the Boom and Lal signatures and room.. But the difference it makes for Atmaos, FX ect... It becomes Additive, instead of subtractive.. Yep.. Spectral editing, manually selecting a noise floor and the way it allows interpolation with in the Spectrum , where you can choose what to learn from .. Yeh.. Its a lot more work... But The difference... It can be as clean as ADR, (Sure sometimes there is a base recording, where you need to hang around., But again.... Sure.,... A time saver its a time saver.. But I prefer to spend more time for better results.. Just my Take. (pardon the pun) No one has to agree....But Again, The depth and capabilities of RX, well like the Line in Risky Business.. RX, There is no Substitute.

It took a while, but thats the hobbits youve got to break, And once they did, They'll never go back... Classic was they Both Hated the Cut page...Like , Why? It's stupid, etc.. Now they get it, and LOVE it. Especially projects that dont involve Post houses, I want to keep it all in Resolve.. But the Audio editing was a Bitch when they added Fairlight...Id Dowload every Release , Knowing how capable it was , but a monstrosity to use.. Video Editors jargon and works flow is not of that of someone that does audio.. Many informed BM as why it just wasnt there.. And damn It.. 17 was the Moment..The Fairlight Page is actually becoming more Audio workflow ecentric.. Its not fully there yet, but I'm excited.. But it'll be in downtime, and a Test project..... Its good to know Connect works without issues int Resolve.. Just never had a chance to try it.. So again, good info. As Im doing 2 shorts at the moment , Im not going to move to DR yet... But Its great to know Conncet works... I had a Feeling it would, But in Hitech and computers , we know not to ever Assume. No , I dopnt work for Black Magic.. But Did work For a Sydney HiTech shop that where the only Digi dealers, (we imported digi, becuase they decided the market wasnt worth it..I shit you not) .. But Then , With Avid Failing, The acquired Digi..Yep the suits and accountants saved their company by buying a better one.. Now they've made it the same way Avid lost its market share... Basically, These days , The only reason toileting use Protools, Is in film .. If it wasnt for that, Theryed be gone. So Ill reiterate. BM Good 👍🏻 Avid and Adobe Bad.👎🏻
