Wax Carving | Making a Shield Ring

In this video, I show my process for carving a shield ring out of wax. This piece will later be cast in metal using the lost wax casting process. I'm using matt carving wax for this model and odorless mineral spirits to polish the finished carving.

Always helps to get a reminder that precision is (and always has been) achievable by handwork. Loved the music track as well, brought back old SCA memories. Is there a way to find out the track, or is it your own?

Thank you! After sanding, I applied some odorless mineral spirits (that's what was on the Q-tip) and then buffed the surface to give it that glossy finish. 😁

What is the liquid on the cotton bud?

The liquid is odorless mineral spirits. It works great for polishing.

Thanks for the video, and great work! Two tools you're using at 5:27 and 6:47 I haven't seen before. Did you make those, or what are they called?

Thank you for watching! They are both homemade. The one at 5:27 is a little graver type tool for cutting in groves and the other at 6:47 is just a little scraping tool. I have a separate video on my channel, showing how I made them if you're interested 😁
