Happy Wax on Wednesdays ! I have been creating with alternative photo printing processes in the studio. This week I am adding cold wax as a beautiful satin finish on them. These are so lovely! Great video. I apply cold wax over watercolor paintings to seal them but can’t find a good lint free cloth to apply it and later buff. What cloths do you use?

Thanks so much Carol ! I use the same thing I use to buff my encaustic paintings which is pantyhose from the dollar store :)

What paper do you use .... and how light fast is the cyanotype?

Hi Joan ! All of the supplies I use can always be found on the blog post for that week with a link in the description below the video :) This week I used Fabriano Hot press and last week I compared 5 different papers for cyanotypes. The cyanotype photographic process is very archival if they are printed on archival paper. Just like any photograph you would not want to place it in the direct sunlight. If light fading does occur washing it in a bath of water and a cap full of hydrogen peroxide will usually restore it to original color. Hope this helps and have fun !

How long does it take the cold wax to dry before buffing?

Hi Wendy it depends on the thickness of your application of the wax. On a thin layer like this it can dry in 2-3 days enough to buff it . It will be a soft luster not the high sheen of encaustic but it is still lovely . Have fun !
