Waxed Canvas Camp Kitchen Utensil Roll. How to make your own gear.

In this video, I will be making a waxed canvas camp kitchen utensil roll. Really useful for keeping your spoons, spatulas, knives and other utensils organised and out of harms way while you prepare and cook in camp, it hangs up and when finished you can roll it up securely and store away in your pack or kitchen box. Although intended as a kitchen tidy, it also works really well as a tool roll, carving kit roll or general organiser. I used a sewing machine to make it, but being a relatively simple project could be sewn by hand.
I hope you enjoy the video and thanks for watching!

Thanks for sharing the design. I just made one and it turned out well with a small adjustment to the overall dimensions to accommodate my kitchen gear. I especially like the stick sleeve to hang it flat, and the keeper flap for the Opinel. Great ideas. Canoe trip coming up in 1 week; looking forward to having all my kitchen gear well organized for a change.

Cold weather is a great time for reviewing kit and for skilled people to make personalized and practical items of kit. Great premise. Pro chefs love knife/implement rolls. Fine, clear and detailed directions. "Shades" of Great Britain's seafaring/sail making heritage. (Iron Men and Wooden Ships!) For 'Yanks' like me, I am reminded that famed woodcraft writer 'Nesmuk' was a merchant seaman early in life...and he loved to make his own kit in the 'closed' season. Then, the final flourish in an exceptional design, the tubular spreader doubles as a fire blow bellows. My compliments!

Great idea Simon and such great handiwork. Ideal for them wot keep forgetting their fork and try and impress us all by eating their supper with a badly shaped stick..hahaha..! I was working with a second driver one day that had some strange eating habits. He had a supply of yogurts and a few carrots....but forgot his spoon..! He carved a spoon out of a carrot, ate his yogurts with it...and then ate the carrot. Job done..😂😂😂 Cheers 👍

I live in Ohio. I could go shopping today and buy 10 great old machines for $30 or so. They are everywhere. I bet asking around, a person could get one for free from a friend or relative. Here in the US, sewing no longer seems to be a very popular activity. Try to get a machine that has no plastic parts (I mean gears etc., knobs are okay). The machines were so well made that it is near impossible to wear one out, except nylon plastic gears get brittle and break with age. I bet it is the same in many other places.

I can't sew a lick, so I am always amazed by your resourcefulness at it. I put a pair of titanium chopsticks in the narrowest slot of my knife/tool roll (which I think would work well to stiffen the top, where you use the 2-piece rod (a brilliant idea, btw)) to form a spoke at the center to roll it around, then the slots get larger toward the outside (the inverse of your layout). Also, Andy has added a couple tiny stock pots to his camp cooking setup, according to his video today. I am not sure what miniature cooking gear you don't already have between the two of you, but I believe it is your turn.😆
